I needed a new door for my camper so I decided to build a raised six panel door. Previously I made a six panel door with flat panels so I thought it would be an interesting challenge to make raised panels. Also this time I built the door using traditional tenons instead of using the domino. I made this oak end table from boards I had lying around in my garage. The design is super simple and even better it's easy to build. I used a pocket hole jig to assemble the table and it's plenty strong. I don't like the generic black sanding blocks because the nails are difficult to grip the sandpaper without ending up with a loose paper which folds around and eventually rips. Previously I made a small tapering jig which works great for quickly tapering small pieces of wood but I wanted a larger jig for making tapers for furniture or other woodworking projects. I've gone through a few variations of clamp storage, just quick solutions to get my clamps off the floor. These never last long because I end up buying more clamps and clamps go back to the floor. I've seen a number of videos for different version of clamp storage but most of them seem to revolve around making a permanent storage fixture, whether it's on the wall or a cart. I went with a french cleat system, because I already was using that for my tool wall. I made a couple different styles of hangers for clamps but will probably make more in the future. I really don't know how I didn't think of this before. I always struggle with where to put my table saw push stick where it's easily accessible, especially when I'm making a rip and need to reach for it at the end of the rip. I've been wanting hold down clamps for t-track for jigs on the table saw or for my homemade drill press table. Problem is, I really didn't want to spend the money asked for the metal hold down clamps. I decided to make my own out of wood and rubber furniture wedges. I've been using a terrible plastic compass and it's horrible because it never holds it's position so I knew I needed a new one. I looked for a higher quality one and the prices were just too much to justify for something I use occasionally - so I decided to make one myself. I'll have projects where small parts need to be cut at awkward angles that I can't make safely on the miter saw. I decided to quickly make a basic mini tapering jig to help with future projects. I recently added a dog hole diamond stone holder to my workbench and thought it would be easier to sharpen chisels if I made a honing guide. I looked at a few different designs and eventually landed on this one. It's simple but not to the point where it sacrifices accuracy or efficiency. My table saw has horrible dust collection, second only to my miter saw. I've been looking at buying an overarm dust collection hood but they're expensive and won't necessarily fit a small job site saw. I decided to make one out of plywood and acrylic. I struggled with the design for a long time but decided enough was enough and I needed to just start building. I'm happy with the outcome although I could probably make some improvements to the dust hood design. After using this version for a while I'll know exactly how to upgrade it later. I'm learning to use hand tools and that requires lots of sharpening so I wanted to come up with a simple sharpening stone holder that wouldn't require one of those damn non slip pads. First of all, they're annoying to dig out because I don't have a good place to store them - but most importantly is they never work well with my workbench. I've never had a need for a wooden mallet because I like using the rubber kind, but I thought it would be a fun project to make my own - and it was! I built the mallet out of maple for strength but added some purple heart for appearance. This was a perfect project to use up some scraps I've been sitting on for a while. After making wooden f-style clamps I wanted to see if I could make improvements to the clamping format so they could be used for panels. I decided to go with a parallel clamp style and reused the cam clamping format. I still have some small style improvements I'm working on but the functionality and price is fantastic! I wanted a portable workbench I could bring camping to try carving. I found a lot of nice options online but they were all $200-300 so I decided to make one with scrap 2x4s and furring strips. In this video I make wooden dog hole hold down clamps for my updated workbench. Most store bought dog hole clamps would not work because my workbench is 1.5" thick. They are also $15 to $30 each. I made these for $1.25 each out of select pine, which I think looks great but is also plenty strong enough for what I need these for. I think hard maple would make stronger clamps with more holding pressure. A key benefit to these hold down clamps is the reversible cam which allows clamping towards or away form the bench dog.
