Long Story Short Episode 70: High Fibrinogen and D-Dimers Linked to Long COVID
In this early pandemic study of COVID-19 confirmed hospitalized patients, researchers found two groups of individuals with biomarker profiles: the first had high fibrinogen levels in relation to C-Reactive proteins (CRP) and the second had an increase in D-Dimers in relation to CRP. These molecules generally increase in relation to CRP; however, here the researchers found that the fibrinogen and D-Dimers increased while the CRP stayed low. These cohorts were associated with higher likelihood of neurological long COVID. Let's review both the findings and the mechanisms.

Long Story Short Episode 74: Alzheimer’s Disease and Optimizing Brain Health
In a recent FLCCC weekly webinar, Dr. Been joined Dr. Paul Marik and Dr. Suzanne Gazda for a discussion on preventing and treating Alzheimer’s Disease. It is such an important topic, especially since we are witnessing a significant rise in Alzheimer’s and dementia, that this discussion is being highlighted in this episode of ‘Long Story Short’. Here, Dr. Been begins by again sharing a fascinating study that demonstrated that circadian rhythms in mice were modulated by time-restricted feeding (intermittent fasting), improving memory, and explains why this has exciting implications for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's. Neurologist Suzanne Gazda and Dr. Paul Marik join for further discussion on optimizing brain health.

“People die, but we don’t expect them to have been murdered by our own governmental health protoco
Frank Thiboutot tells his story For The Record about how he lost his beautiful wife of 32 years, Judie Valle. The EMTs wouldn’t allow him to accompany them to the hospital. He could see her face through the rear window of the ambulance as they drove out of the driveway. That was the last time he saw her until they called him 10 days later to come in and say his goodbyes.

Long Story Short Episode 73: Metformin for Long COVID
In this study, researchers demonstrated that the use of metformin within the first four days of COVID-19 symptoms reduced healthcare utilization and the incidence of long COVID. The researchers write: "In conclusion, early outpatient COVID-19 treatment with metformin decreased the subsequent risk of long COVID by 41.3% during 10-month follow-up. This finding is consistent with the 42.3% reduction in healthcare utilization for severe COVID-19 with metformin in the first 14 days of the trial." Let's discuss.

FLCCC Practitioner Pearls for Treating Sepsis
There are around 50 million cases of sepsis per year globally, and 1 in 5 deaths is associated with sepsis. Sepsis is a time-sensitive disease, and treatment should begin before a diagnosis is confirmed. These 8 clinical tips will help you manage and treat your hospitalized sepsis patients.
1. Do not wait for the diagnosis to begin treatment with antibiotics.
2. To diagnose sepsis, a clinician should check these labs:
• Blood cultures
• PCT (precalcitonin)
• CBC with differential
• Ferritin
• Electrolyte panel with attention to monitoring
• Magnesium
3. It is important to note that too much fluid will increase mortality of the septic patient.
4. For the patient that needs support of the vascular system, a norepinephrine infusion is recommended. The FLCCC MHAT Treatment Protocol should be used as the guide for treatment. The FLCCC MHAT Protocol includes melatonin, hydrocortisone, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and thiamine.
5. Melatonin 6-10 mg every night.
6. Hydrocortisone 50 mg every 6 hours for 4 days and until the patient is off vasopressors. (Note: If treatment is less than 10 days, tapering the dose is not needed).
7. Vitamin C 1.5 gms IV every 6 hrs for 12-16 IV doses. See our Sepsis Protocol for more detailed information at link below.
8. Thiamine 200 mg IV every 12 hours.

Long Story Short Episode 72: Cardiac Cell Mitochondrial Damage by the Spike Protein
In this lecture we first discuss the general structure and function of mitochondria. Then we discuss a first-of-its-kind study from Taiwan that demonstrates mitochondrial damage in cardiac pericyte cells when presented with the S1 part of the spike protein. Let's review.

The 7 Key Roles of Vitamin C in Sepsis
Here are the seven key roles of vitamin C in sepsis:
1. Vitamin C is a free radical scavenger. It helps reduce oxidation of cellular parts, enzymes, and proteins.
2. It is an anti-inflammatory. Inflammation is decreased by reducing histamine release and other inflammation pathways.
3. Vitamin C supports the microcirculation, helping to preserve the structure of the vascular system.
4. It supports immune function. It supports the lymphatic system and the blood cells that help with immune defences.
5. Vitamin C is an anti-thrombotic. By decreasing the activation of platelets and the tissue factors in the clotting reaction, vitamin C helps decrease clot formation.
6. It helps produce the hormones epinephrine, dopamine, and vasopressin, which support the cardiovascular system. It acts as a co-factor in the synthesis of these hormones.
7. Vitamin C helps promote wound healing. New tissue growth is stimulated by vitamin C.
