Enlightened Prophets

When the Second World War ended, the people of liberated Europe celebrated their freedom from Nazi tyranny. Years of suffering had ended, but for millions of Germans, a new and terrible chapter was beginning. This remarkable history documentary on BBC Select reveals the appalling violence meted out to the defeated Germans, which mirrored some of the worst cruelty of Hitler’s Nazi forces.

Adolph Zukor, founder of Paramount; Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal; the Warner brothers, Harry and Jack; Louis B. Mayer, founder of MGM; William Fox of 20th Century Fox; and Harry Cohn, head of Columbia. All were immigrants, or children of immigrants, who wanted to reinvent themselves as Americans. In the process, they reinvented America. First hand accounts of the movie moguls' lives are told through a series of original interviews with their children and grandchildren, and with comments by film historians, critics, actors and producers.

This 1948 Cold War-era propaganda cartoon, entitled Make Mine Freedom, uses humor to promote democracy versus communism, and free enterprise (capitalism) over communism’s totalitarian governments. It contrasts mainstream American values with the values of Soviet communism. The point that this cartoon seems to be making, is beware of any individual, organization, or administration that attempts to escalate class warfare to divide the country and make socialism appear to be the only solution. We will always have our differences, but putting the government in charge of everything for promises that you will be taken care of, and surrendering your freedom is not the solution. The cartoon was produced by John Sutherland and sponsored by the Harding College. It is one of the "fun and facts about America" series, made "to create a deeper understanding of what has made America the finest place in the world to live."

This film was made to sell to high school media departments who purchased it to show to their juniors and seniors. Students in public high schools were being exposed to the concept of propaganda, especially given the context of World War II and the early Cold War. At this time there was an emphasis on educating citizens, including school children, about the role of propaganda.

American: The Bill Hicks Story is a 2009 biographical documentary film on the life of comedian Bill Hicks. The film was produced by Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas, and features archival footage and interviews with family and friends, including Kevin Booth.

Police can lie. Even in high profile cases. On December 4, 1969, Chicago Black Panther leader Fred Hampton & fellow member Mark Clark were gunned down in the middle of the night by Chicago Police. Police initially said it was a gunfight, with the Panthers shooting first…but the following investigation found that Police actually fired 99 shots, to the Panthers 1. It was later found inside COINTELPRO, an illegal counter-intel program by J Edgar Hoover‘s FBI, wanted the Panthers (and other Black-led organizations) to end…by any means. President Richard Nixon supported the FBI throughout all this…

Richard Gage talked about his group, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, which claimed that the World Trade Center was brought down by explosive demolition on September 11, 2001. The group was founded in 2006 and said its mission was to “expose the official lies and cover-up surrounding the events of September 11, 2001 in a way that inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth.”

Symbolically, the red pill represents the journey of self-discovery that Neo must take to uncover the truth. Morpheus compares this journey to the adventures of Alice in Wonderland, as taking the red pill will plunge Neo down the rabbit hole and open his mind to the fact that he lives in a pseudo-reality.
