This episode covers the basics of installing an electrical switch. I cover mounting boxes, drilling holes, running 12/2 romex from a power source to a new switch box. From that switch box I install another piece of 12/2 romex to a light above. After wiring and rough-in I install a decor single-pole 15a switch and a keyless fixture with a lightbulb.
I talk briefly about how to rip out wires and twist joints, as well as how to test with a multimeter using continuity to see whether or not a bulb is bad. This is the very beginning of a series from basic to advanced that will show apprentice electricians several different ways to install electrical materials and devices.
**Disclaimer - These videos are for training purposes alone, all work done on electrical systems should be done by a licensed and insured electrical contractor. If you are not an electrician, do not attempt any of the work you are seeing in these videos.**

It shouldn't have to be said, but come on people...have some common courtesy for the people who have to come and do work at your house or business. You can live as gross or clean as you want to, but if you have someone come over to fix a problem for you, make sure they can get in and work without having to pick up your house for you. Maybe its a southern thing...but if I ever have somebody coming over to do work, I at least pick up the area they're going to work in. I don't go out of my way to clean the entire house, but I just make it so they don't have to move my things around and risk breaking anything in the process.
None of us tradespeople want to clean your house. Nor do we want to touch your things if we don't have to. Most just want to get in, diagnose a problem, repair the issue, and get out. We should be able to do that.

At first, I told myself, this is far too intuitive of a problem to solve that it doesn't need a whole video on the topic. Then I started to hear other people ask questions, which made me realize there are other people out there who deal with this problem as much as I do. So I figured I'd make it for anyone who hasn't been able to figure this out.
Step 1) Take out the little allen wrench that comes with the nailer, if you don't have it find one that fits the bolts on the top rail near the tip of the nailer.
Step 2) Loosen the two rail bolts until you hear an audible POP. This is allowing a spring-loaded mechanism to release which takes pressure off of the nail.
Step 3) Tighten the two rail bolts
Step 4) Nail away!

How Electricians MAKE-READY a Receptacle
The rip-out stage of a rough-in is most peoples' favorite. It's the point where you know you've gotten everything done and it's ready to get all of the wires finalized and prepped for inspection.

Ripping out is a rather easy task but each type of device, or group of devices will get handled differently. For example, a receptacle will be dealt with differently than a 3-way switch in how the conductors need to be tied together or paired up and folded into the box.
The whole idea with the rip-out phase is to get all of the conductors prepped so that in a month or two when there's sheetrock up, you can come back and put in devices. When you come back a person should be able to walk up to a device location, grab the conductors and pull them out, and understand immediately what kind of device needs to be installed. This becomes much more important with multi-gang switches where you have combinations of single-pole, three-way, and four-way switches all sharing a box.
For ripping out receptacles, I rip the sheathing off of the Romex (Type NM Cable) and get the paper inserts cut off. Then I take the blacks and whites and fold them up out of my way. I then grab the grounds (equipment grounding conductors) and twist them together so they're twisted for a good 4-5 inches outside of the box before cutting one of the ends off. I put a green wire nut on the joint to keep the conductors firmly together and fold it into the back of the box so it's out of the way. Finally, I match the remaining blacks (hots) and whites (neutrals) up with the bare grounds and accordion them neatly into the box - cutting off any excess so the conductors are only long enough to stick out of the box 6-8 inches.
Then it's on to the next one. Pretty simple right? Just make sure that you do it the way that you like and that you know why you do it the way you do. If you fold your wires so that the whites are on the left and the blacks are on the right, cool. Just do you, and do it the same every time.

END OF YEAR UPDATE - Taking a few months off
Well boys and girls, I'm wrapping up the content for the year. I've been traveling a lot and have a ton of content to put together, as well as some sponsorship obligations to keep up with so I'm slammed for the next 2 months. That and the fact the holidays are rapidly approaching means this is a good time for me to hyper-focus on getting caught up with all of these things.
You'll still see some videos come out over the next couple months but it will be random when this stuff comes out. Just wanted to keep y'all up to date with why things are slowing down. I've got a cool plan for next year's content selection so stay tuned. I should kick back up full time around late January, Early February if everything goes to plan.
Thank y'all so much for your constant support, engagement, shares, likes, and follows. Means the world to me. See y'all soon!!

Welcome To Electrician U - VIDEOS FOR ELECTRICIANS, BY ELECTRICIANS
Hello my friends! I'm Dustin Stelzer, a master electrician in Austin, TX and I'm here to talk about being an electrician with you. As I was coming up through the trade I had so many questions that I could never find the answers to, at least not easily or in a way that didn't put me to sleep. There weren't videos out there showing how electrical materials worked, and how electricians were supposed to install them. So I figured I'd make them! ENJOY!
In these videos I'll discuss tools, tips and tricks, code, electrical theory, and have interviews with people in the electrical industry. I am to provide educational value, as well as opinions and entertainment along the way.
