10. They’re Steal and Dumpster Dive
-A bald eagle can catch food on their own with no problem, but why go to all that work when it’s easier to steal food?
-Bald eagles are known for chasing down other birds that have caught fish, and continually chasing them until they give up their catch to the eagle
-They are also known for eating all sorts of garbage out of dumpsters, ya I’m not sure those cliffbar wrappers are going to feel good coming out…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvWUv1N45XE
9. Bald Eagles Mate for Life
-bald eagles are usually counted as pairs, this is because they mate for life
-they are a lot like a human family is this aspect, they work together building a nest, share the work incubating eagle eggs and take turns feeding the babies
-Bald eagles usually find a mate by age 4 or 5 and are together their whole lives
8. Female are larger than Males
-Female bald eagles are physically larger than males which is unusual considering a large majority of animals in the wild sport the larger dominate male
-Scientists can’t figure out why, a few speculations are that female take charge of nesting duties, and being larger may help be dominate in doing so.
-It could also be just the simple fact a mother eagle will stay with and protect her baby eagles and needs a more intimidating presence.

7. Incredible Eyes
-Bald eagles have a wider field of view and sharper vision than humans. They can also see ultraviolet light. The bald eagle also has 2 pairs of eyelids, 1 normal pair like humans have and a second one called a nictitating membrane which is a see-through eye lid that keeps the eyes moist, which is kind of needed when you’re flying around all day.
6. -The bald eagle only exists in north america. They’re found predominantly in north america and canada with some population in mexico
-there are other bird species that are similar to the bald eagle that exist elsewhere but none that are the same as the bald eagle
5. -Bald eagles don’t make the sounds you hear on tv or in movies
-They make not so powerful, chirps and beeps for sounds which get dubbed over for the powerful screech you’re used to hearing in movies
Tristan Findley’s Youtube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RArGl2vkGI
4. -Bald eagles can float and swim
-They have large wings and hollow bones allowing them to float very well, this evolutionary adaptation is so they can dive underwater to catch a fish, which often weighs a lot then float or swim their way back to shore to eat the fish
-Once the eagle locks onto it’s prey they can’t unlock their talons until the get to shore where they can stand up, for this reason if the fish is too big for the eagle to handle the fish can potentially drown the eagle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMft3Ny7hFk
3. -They were almost wiped out in the United States when European settlers showed up and started setting up settlements, an act was passed in 1940 to protect them but bald eagles were further wiped out when an insecticide called DDT, you know that stuff that has been linked to numerous types of cancer, was introduced to farmland in the United States.
-The numbers of eagle pairs dropped to 471 then DDT was banned in 1970
-Since the ban on DDT there has been a massive recovery for the bald eagle, today there over 9700 eagle pairs in the united states.
2. -They live long lives, the longest living eagle died last year at the age of 38. Despite what you might have seen online in the past year about eagles living to age 90, that simply isn’t true.
1. -They Perform an Aerial Dance
-bald eagle pairs have been found to lock feet in the air while diving putting them into a downward spin
-they hold on as long as possible before hitting the ground
-scientists aren’t sure why they do this, same could be said for things humans do!

Polar Bear Hotel
The Tundra Lodge Rolling Hotel
-The Tundra Lodge Rolling Hotel is a unique hotel that allows one to view polars bears in the wild at very close distance
-The hotel is not too far from Churchill, Manitoba which is the polar bear capital of the world
-Every fall the tundra lodge is constructed and placed in a specific spot that guts into the hudson’s bay that is known for high polar bear density
-There are around 800 polar bears in the region which come down the Hudson’s Bay on blocks of ice that are being blown by the prevailing winds from the north
-Those blocks of ice will eventually hit land on the southern shore of the hudson’s bay right around Churchill
-The polar bears at this point are all fattened up from hunting seals all winter long.
-The bears wait at the shore around Churchill until November when the ice gets cold and the ice begins to freeze again. Seawater has a lower freezing point than freshwater, so the bears wait around the Hudson Bay coastline near Churchill because the churchill river runs north into the hudson bay. That fresh water will freeze first creating a new hunting raft for the polar bears
-Now how the Rolling Lodge works is you would fly to Winnipeg, Manitoba where the staff of the Rolling hotel is located. They equip you with a parka and boots and take you onto the a private jet that flies to Churchill
-Once arrived a polar rover will take guests to the rolling hotel
-The rolling lodge was constructed by a local resident of churchill, Don Wachowski
-There are different train car buggies with different functions
-These train car buggies are not actually a train, but more like conga line of busses that are attached
-The first buggy is for staff, it’s their living, sleeping, relaxing quarters
-Buggy 2 has a full kitchen and mess hall with master chef Toby. The remaining 2/3rds of space in this car is filled with tables and chairs for meals.
-between the different buggies is a caged in viewing area that is open to the outdoors that gives a great view of the polar bears
-The 3rd car is filled with seats and a drink station
-4th and 5th buggy cars have 4 showers each flush toilets, and 32 bunk beds attached to the hallway.
-This is where adventurers that want to see the polar bears stay.
-The polar bears can be viewed from windows throughout the tundra lodge
-The buggie is high enough off the ground that the polar bears can’t actually attack a person
-It’s even possible to view the polar bears from your bed in your sleeping cabin
-A tundra rover is kept at the lodge at all times which goes out during the day for Northern Safaris looking at different polar bears doing polar bear things
-Polar bears are very solitary creatures but during November and December around Churchill is one of the only times and places on the planet where polar bears are forced into a small area as they wait for the ice to freeze over. The result is that guests can potentially see young bears playing with each other which they would never otherwise do.
-The amount of bears around the lodge can vary from 1 to 20 polar bears
-This tundra hotel isn’t just for great bear sight seeing, the northern lights light up the sky, when there aren’t clouds of course as well as an incredible sunset.
-Other creatures that can be seen are arctic hare, arctic fox, snowy owls, and willow ptarmigan
-If this is a trip you’re interested in, you might want to book it sooner than later. Every year the earth is getting warmer and polar bear numbers are dropping as the ice melts.
-A 6 or 7 day stay in the rolling hotel will cost around $7000 or $1000 a night. While that might seem expensive, where else can you sleep with wild polar bears walking around you?

5. 3d Printer - 1:25
Arthur Sacek created a 3d printer almost entirely out of Lego. The only part that isn’t Lego is the drill bit. After inputting computerized instructions his printer can create amazing sculptures out of a green foam. 4. Nintendo DSi - 1:47
This impressive sculpture of the Nintendo DSi made entirely out of Lego was created by Sean Kenney for the April 5th 2009 release of the Nintendo DSi. This abnormally large sculpture is over 7 feet wide and contains 51,324 Lego bricks. It took over 200 hours to create and weighs over 250 lbs.

1. Lego Roadster - 2:52
This astonishing fully sized Lego car took over 500,000 Lego pieces to construct. It’s powered by a compressed air tank which powers the engine which is entirely made of Lego. The only pieces that are not made of Lego on this car are the wheels and some of the load bearing elements. It has a top speed of 30 km/hr and took Steve Sammartino and Raul Oaida, 3 months to build working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now talk about impressive.

Top 10 Most Annoying Alarm Clocks
10. Clocky the alarm clock on wheels
This annoying alarm clock will sound an alarm and roll sporadically all over your bedroom. The only way to shut it off is to catch it which usually requires you to get out of bed unless you are lucky enough enough to scoop it up with 1 hand hanging off the bed. The Clocky comes in 4 colors and costs around $55 , link is in the description of you're serious about bringing this nuisance into your life.

9. Emergency siren alarm clock
For this one we’ll combo 2 clocks in one here, because they're so similar. First we have the police siren alarm clock. No one likes the sound of the police siren, usually because it means a ticket is coming which could prove useful being an alarm sound. Second we have a fire alarm , alarm clock. You know that annoying fire bell ringing when there is a fire or potential fire, that outta get you out of bed in the morning.

8. Loud gong alarm clock
The sound of a gong can be therapeutic and relaxing but not when it's loud enough to wake your neighbors. This alarm clock is so loud you'll be running out of your bed to turn it off.
Gong

7. Wake up stand on alarm clock
A Simple yet effective design this alarm clock requires one to get out of bed and stand on the alarm to turn it off. It is simply a mat with a pressure sensitive pad that will require your full weight to deactivate it. If you’re dead set on this design for an alarm clock, Ruggie also has a similar design which looks more like a bath mat that retails for $100.

Ruggie

6. Sfera alarm clock
This unique alarm clock comes in the form of a ball that hangs from the ceiling. When the alarm goes off it lowers towards the bed and begins to glow. A sleep button can be pressed which will cause it to retract back to the ceiling at which point the alarm will go off again requiring you to stand up to turn it off.
5. Glowing pillow alarm clock
This weird alarm clock incorporates a pillow and an alarm all in one. This is the only one on this list that doesn't utilize a loud noise to wake you but light instead. When the alarm goes off an led light displaying the time will appear on the pillow, the longer you choose to snooze the brighter the light will get.
Glow Pillow

4. Danger Bomb alarm clock
This clever alarm clock requires one to perform a reverse bomb defusal. You'll be awoken by the alarm clock and will have to match up the colored wires with the colored lights that turn on. While this seems quite easy, it won't be when you're are still half asleep and the last thing you want to do is put this bomb back together. Once the wires are in the correct places the alarm will shut off… until tomorrow. This clock isn’t cheap at $110 but who knows maybe this is exactly what you need to wake up.
Danger Bomb

3. Flying Alarm Clock
This alarm clock sends a small helicopter flyer into the air which you need to catch and retrieve to turn off the alarm. The sound this thing produces is blood curdling, enough to send you into an adrenaline rush upon waking. This is available on amazon but the reviews are quite bad, might be best to stay away from this product as it poorly built.

2. No Snooze alarm clock
This devious device requires it's groggy victim to lift the alarm clock having a cable dangle as its rotated constantly for 1.5 minutes. The device must be rotated at 2 revolutions per second or the countdown resets back to zero. This alarm clock is pure evil and one that will almost certainly wake it’s victim. Sadly it seems to have fallen into the void and merely exists from this picture only has it can’t be purchased.
1.SnuzNluz
This alarm clock attaches to your bank account via wifi, the SnuzNluz donates to an organization you hate every time you hit snooze on the alarm clock. Nothing can be more motivating to get out of bed as the thought of losing money especially when it's going somewhere you don’t want it to go. This alarm clock is brilliant and evil all at the same time. Currently SnuzNluz supports 6200 charities and non profits and the minimum donation is $10, an expensive press of the snooze button that’s for sure.

Scientists Uncover the Secrets of Easter Island - Top 12 Facts
Easter Island also known as Rapa Nui is the most remote island on earth. With that said it's the last place you'd expect to find massive moai statues. On this list we count down the top 12 things you didn't know about this mysterious island.
12. Easter Sunday - 0:10
European Settlers arrived on Easter Island in 1722, upon arrival Dutch Admiral Jacob Roggeveen ‘discovered’ and named the island on Easter sunday. The naming of Rapa Nui on Easter sunday seems irrelevant considering it is believed the people of Rapa Nui first inhabited the island between 300 and 800 AD.
11. Movie - 0:32
Kevin Costner produced the movie, “Rapa Nui” on the island in 1993. The shooting of movie included two locals who described it as "you know, the usual Hollywood romance." Costner’s movie featured a dumbed down interpretation of Easter Island culture and history which was ==chosen for “dramatic purposes”. Regardless the movie didn’t boost the island’s tourism all that much.
10. Stupid Tourist - 0:54
In 2008 a Finnish tourist was caught chipping a piece off the earlobe of one of the moai statues. Rapa Nui, under the protection of being a World Heritage Site, delivered this dumb tourist a steep fine in the amount of $17,000 US dollars and was ejected from the island and told not to return for 3 years. So wait a sec… he vandalizes a centuries old heritage statue yet he only gets a 3 year ban!? If it were up to me I’d give him a lifetime ban. Moving on...
9. Removed Moai - 1:22
There used to be thousands of moai on Easter Island but now there are only 887 left. Easter Island was declared a World Heritage Site in 1995 but before protection was granted, many of them were taken from Easter Island by collectors. Numerous stolen moai now reside in museums worldwide, including the British Museum and the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
8. Culture - 1:48
Starting in 1975 the people of Easter Island have held the festival of Tapati, every February, to celebrate their culture. The festival has many traditional activities like dancing, wood carving and music. The musicians of Rapa Nui play an unique 8-string flat ukuleles that look like mini electric guitars, but they are one of a kind and quite rare as there is only one artist and his father who make them.
7. Remote - 2:08
Easter Island also known as Rapa Nui, is the most remote inhabited island on planet Earth. It belongs to the Chilean Valparaiso region but is located 2,182 mi (3800 km) off the Chilean coast. The next closest island of over 500 population is Rikitea which is located on the island of Mangareva which is 1,619 (2600 km) mi away. Talk about feeling isolated….
6. Origins - 2:35
The language of Rapa Nui is very similar to the one spoken in Hawaii and Tahiti. At one time all three regions were of “one people” but later Chili claimed Rapa Nui, the United States took Hawaii, and the French took Tahiti.
5. Ownership - 2:50
Non-Rapa Nui people cannot own land on Easter Island, whether they be hippies of Chile or greedy resort builders. Now if they’re a greedy resort builder born of Rapa Nui descent… that’s ok.
4. Construction - 3:02
The heaviest standing moai statue weighs over 80 tons. These statues were carved by master sculptors using massive chunks of volcanic ash, eyes made from white coral, and pupils made from obsidian. Some moai have large red stone hats or ‘pukao’ atop their heads. Moai range in height from 12 to 30 feet and were so heavy it took over 100 people to drag and lift a single moai into position.
3. Marriage - 3:27
It’s forbidden by law to marry with you 3rd cousin in Rapa Nui law. This makes it difficult for Rapa Nui people to marry as there are only around 5800 people living on the island. Maybe they’ll have to stick to doing a skype marriage…. ahhhhh
2. Keeping Watch - 3:42
Easter Island is home to 887 giant stone “moai” statues. These moai statues were carved by different tribes on the islands, they were positioned to be facing the tribe’s village that carved them so that the moai could always protect them. Legend has it the moai could walk when commanded by a king.
1. Fatboy - 3:58
The largest moai statue on Easter Island is known as the ‘Fatboy’ but was left incomplete, lying down and not completely carved away from the volcanic ash. If completed it would have been 63 feet tall and weighing in over 270 tons making it by far the largest moai on Easter Island!

5. 1995 Stolen Tank in San Diego
-Shawn Nelson, a U.S. Army Veteran and unemployed plumber stole as M60A3 Patton tank from the United States National Guard Armory in San Diego
-His 23 minute rampage on May 17, 1995 was caught live on television as he smashed through parked cars, fire hydrants and telephone poles. He was eventually stopped when he tried to cross a concrete highway divider. Police shot him from above looking down the hatch after he refused to surrender at which he died later in hospital.
-It’s a sad story as his wife divorced him, both his parents died, his new girlfriend died and his plumbing equipment was stolen from his truck leading him to home foreclosure all within 3 years of the event. The guy clearly just snapped from bad luck.
4. Space Shuttle Challenger Launch Disaster
At 11:39am on January 28, 1986 at Cape Canaveral Florida the space shuttle Challenger exploded just 73 seconds after launch. On board was teacher Christa Mcauliffe, who was to be the first teacher in space. A total 7 crew died including 5 NASA astronauts and 2 payload specialists.
The event was broadcasted live on CNN with 17% of all Americans watching and 85% of Americans hearing about the disaster within 1 hour of it happening.
3. Tohoku Tsunami
-On March 11, 2011 a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred 43 miles off the coast of Japan. Being the most powerful earthquake ever to hit Japan it generated tsunami waves up to 133 ft tall with a wave that traveled 6 miles inland. The tsunami was so powerful it actually moved the entire island of Japan 8 feet east and shifted the Earth on its axis between 4 inches and 10 inches. The earthquake resulted in 16,000 people losing their lives, 230,000 homes destroyed, 300 billion dollars in damage and a Stage 7 Nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima power plant. To this day Fukushima is still leaking radiation which many believe is the reason for fruit and vegetable mutations and elevated levels of radiation on the west coast of Canada and the United states.
2. 9-11 Terrorist Attacks
On September 11th, 2001 a series of 4 coordinated terrorist attacks were caught on camera. Merely 20 minutes after a passenger airline jet slammed into the World Trade Center a second jet was caught on live TV hitted the second tower. Within an hour and 42 minutes both 110 story towers collapsed. The 3rd jet that hit the pentagon was captured by a gas station security camera but that footage was confiscated and never released to the public.
1. The Moon Landing
Broadcasted live to the world, the Moon Landing on July 20, 1969 was watched by more than 530 million people around the world. The Eagle lunar module landed on the moon at 4:18 pm with only 30 seconds of fuel remaining. Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the moon nearly 6 hours after they landed. You might ask why would they wait 6 hours, it merely was the time needed to do their post flight checks, and time needed to prepare their life support backpacks. Apparently the hatch door to the lander was changed last minute but the backpacks weren’t tested on the new hatch and the highest heart rate Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin experienced during the entire trip was trying to squeeze out the door without damaging their suits. It took a 363 foot rocket unleashing 7.5 million pounds of thrust to propel the astronauts 240,000 miles to the moon, something this amazing and monumental deserves the top spot on this list.

The Largest Tree on Earth!

Deep in Tulare County, California the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park is home to this, The General Sherman. William Tecumseh Sherman an American Civil war general had this tree named after him in 1879 by naturalist James Volverton. Wolverton served as a lieutenant in the 9th Indiana Calvary under Sherman.
Up until 1931 it was believed that a nearby tree called General Grant tree was the largest in the world. After precise calculation was done they concluded the General Sherman was larger.
This Giant sequoia measures 275 feet or 83.8 meters tall with a diameter of 25 feet or 7.7meters this 2500 year old tree may be the largest but not the oldest. In fact there are some giant sequoia trees as old as 3200 years old. Being as tall as a 26 story building and weighing in around 2.5 million lbs, this is the last tree you want to fall on you in the woods.
In 2006 the General Sherman lost a huge branch which ended up smashing a nice new fence and walkway. The loss of this branch doesn’t effect the tree’s ranking as calculations are made using the tree’s trunk volume and doesn’t include branches.
While today the General Sherman is the largest living tree there was one larger up until 1943. The Crannell Creek Giant, this behemoth was estimated to be 15 to 25% larger by volume. The sheer weight of these trees when felled would cause them to shatter leaving much of the wood unusable. Sometimes only 50% of the tree would make it to the mill for processing. Add on top that these tree grow in humid conditions making them not an ideal lumber for construction. The giant sequoias like the falling of the Crannell Creek Giant, would end be as shingles and matchsticks making the cutting down of this 3000 year old tree a complete waste.
This started a movement to protect the old growth forest trees which continues on today. Around the world people cherish large trees for their impressive size and history they hold. With logging restrictions in place it’s likely the only thing that could harm the current largest tree, the General Sherman is a lightning strike or forest fire.

World's Weirdest Animals: Markhor
BBC Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj0EVT-Ekog
Living in the Himalayan mountains and its surrounding area is an animal that can up and down the steep cliffs with ease, on this episode of world’s weirdest animals we bring you the Markhor.
The name Markhor is believed to come from the Persian words mar meaning snake and khor meaning eater. Snake eater is in reference to their ability to kill snakes or to their corkscrewing horns which appear to look like coiling snakes. This large hairy mammal lives on steep mountain cliffs where is makes it very hard for them to be caught. This diurnal animal or one being active during the day can only be found in Afghanistan Pakistan, India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Himalayas.
They average 5.4 feet or 1.6 meters in length and weight up to 240 lbs or 109 kg. Markhor males are larger and heavier than females, the males have light brown to black colored coats where the females have a more reddish colored coat. The male’s horns can grow to be as long as their body where the females are much smaller at only 10 inches or 2.5 decimeters long. In the wild the Markhor can live up to 13 years old.
It is said, the males produce a strong pungent smell making the stink of a goat seem like nothing. Folklore states that the foamy, drool that comes from the Markhor’s mouth when they are eating can be used to extract poison from snake bites and is highly sought after by the locals. This herbivore has a diet consisting of mostly grass in the spring and summer months and all other types of vegetation like branches, twigs, shrubs, leavesand flowers consumed in fall and winter months. They a good job of increasing plant diversity by spreading plant seeds through their feces across the mountainside that most other animals can’t access.
These masters of climbing spend most of their lives on steep cliffs where predators have no chance of catching them. Their natural predators lynx, black bears, wolves and snow leopards must patiently wait for the Markhor to leave the comfort of the cliffs edge before they strike to have any chance of catching them. Markhor will use steep slopes as a quick getaway. Golden eagles believe it or not will sink their talons into smaller Markhor and try to carry them away. You can see here this eagle refuses to let go which has a 2nd female Markhor come in to help. Eventually this female is able to rid herself of the eagle by running its head into some rocks.
Listed as Endangered until 2015 when they were downgraded to Near Threatened as their numbers have increased 20% in the past decade. Humans remain the top predator of the Markhor. While banned in many countries like Afghanistan poachers abide by no rules in this quest to obtain Markhor horns. Ironically even with a nearly endangered population India allows 6 large Markhor to be killed annually. This expensive hunting license only allows the hunters to kill large old Markhor no longer good for breeding. It is stated that allowed these hunters to go out with a license deters the poachers. What a world we live in. Tajikistan has setup 2 reserve locations for the Markhor which covers 73,000 hectares of land.
The Markhor, being the national animal of Pakistan has a new logo on Pakistan International Airlines planes. On the back of the plane is a large Markhor with spiralling horns.
BBC Earth has an incredible footage of a snow leopard stalking and attacking a Markhor which I can’t show here but I recommend you check out which will be linked below.

Men Rode MINING BUCKETS up the Mountains | Vanlife Silverton
Deep in the heart of the rugged mountains of Silverton, Colorado, the Mayflower Mill stands as a symbol of the bygone era of mining. Operating in the late 19th century, this historic mill played a pivotal role in extracting precious metals from the surrounding mountains. However, the mining operations at the Mayflower Mill were not without their hazards, and the resilient workers of Silverton faced numerous challenges in their pursuit of prosperity.
The Mayflower Mill's mining operations were characterized by a relentless pursuit of silver and gold. The mill served as a central hub where raw ore from the nearby mines was processed, refined, and prepared for further distribution. The ore went through a complex series of crushing, grinding, and chemical processes to extract the valuable metals it contained. The mill's efficient operation and skilled workforce contributed to the economic growth and prosperity of Silverton during its heyday.
However, the hazardous nature of mining presented constant dangers to the workers of the Mayflower Mill. Underground mining carried risks of cave-ins, explosions, and toxic gas leaks. The miners endured long hours in cramped, dimly lit tunnels, facing the constant threat of accidents and health hazards such as silicosis, a lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to silica dust. The physical toll of the job was immense, with back-breaking labor and the ever-present risk of injury.
In addition to the dangers underground, the harsh mountain environment itself posed challenges for the workers. The extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, avalanches, and treacherous terrain, added an additional layer of risk to their daily lives. The isolation of Silverton, nestled deep in the mountains, made access to medical care and emergency services difficult.
Despite these hardships, the people of Silverton displayed unwavering determination and resilience. They formed tight-knit communities and supported one another through the trials and tribulations of mining life. The town's enduring spirit and camaraderie created a sense of unity that helped the workers persevere through adversity.
Today, the Mayflower Mill stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Silverton's mining heritage. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the workers and the risks they faced in pursuit of prosperity. While the hazards were plentiful, the Mayflower Mill and its dedicated workforce played an integral role in shaping the history of Silverton and the mining industry as a whole.

The Corona, Bowtie, and Pinto Arch Trail is a moderate hike located in the Moab area of Utah. The trail spans 3.3 miles round trip and has an elevation gain of 545 feet. Hikers will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding red rock formations as they make their way along the trail.
The hike begins with a gradual ascent through rocky terrain before reaching a slickrock section that leads to the first arch, Corona Arch. This massive arch spans 140 feet and provides a breathtaking view of the Colorado River and the surrounding canyon walls. The trail then continues to the Bowtie Arch, a smaller arch that is named for its unique shape. Finally, hikers will reach the Pinto Arch, a hidden gem that is less frequently visited than the other two arches. From there, hikers can continue to explore the surrounding area or turn back and retrace their steps back to the trailhead.
While the trail is rated as moderate, hikers should be prepared for some scrambling and exposure along the way. The trail also passes over some railroad tracks, so hikers should be alert for trains and follow all posted safety guidelines. Overall, the Corona, Bowtie, and Pinto Arch Trail is a must-do hike for anyone visiting the Moab area and seeking to explore the beauty of Utah's red rock country.

Corona Arch[1] (formerly known as Little Rainbow Bridge) is a natural sandstone arch near Moab, Utah in a side canyon of the Colorado River west of Moab in Grand County, Utah, United States. It can be accessed via a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) hiking trail (Corona Arch Trail) from Utah State Route 279 (Potash Road).
The arch is located within the same rock formation as Pinto Arch and Bowtie Arch.
This is the site of a rope swing shown on some YouTube videos. One titled, "World's Largest Rope Swing", has garnered more than 27 million views since it was posted February 15, 2012. Such videos have led to more people jumping from Corona Arch. On March 24, 2013, a man from Utah was killed due to miscalculating the distance to the ground before he swung from the arch.[2] After much discussion, in 2015 a temporary ban was placed on rope-swinging from many arches

Top 10 Most Outrageous Mailboxes
Top 10 Most Outrageous Mailboxes
Number 10, Giraffe Mailbox
Check out this giraffe mailbox, there’s nothing like reaching into the butt of a giraffe to get your mail. I wonder how the mailman feels delivering mail to this mailbox everyday?
Number 9, This industrial mailbox is very unique. Clearly it’s not quite out on the lawn yet but it looks like it’s pretty much done to me. I don’t know if this mailbox actually has functioning parts like the light or those steam gaskets or some of the other parts look like they could move but sadly it’ll remain a mystery.
Number 8, Snowman mailbox. This mailbox is very creative. While this probably isn’t a year round mailbox, unless they live in the arctic, I’m sure it gets noticed on the street, or stomped on... What do you guys thinks, do they build this snowman mailbox every year?
Number 7, Tractor Mailbox. Clever construction, an excellent use of spare, old parts this mailbox definitely turns heads. This mailbox with mess with your mind, whether it's razor blades for wheels or the fact it’s being held up by a chain, that seems to be defying gravity.
Number 6, Dirty cycling mailbox. I don’t know who had the idea for this mailbox but it’s pretty funny. You’ve got to wonder if the mailman gets annoyed shoving his hand up this cyclist’s butt daily, finds it funny or has just become numb to it. How many of you would put this mailbox on your lawn?
Number 5, Giant gun mailbox. I wouldn’t personally put this on my lawn but if you’re a gun enthusiast then this is the perfect box for you. Who knows maybe the head of the NRA lives here.
Number 4, Gameboy mailbox. I can’t tell if this gameboy mailbox is a personal box or a communal shared mailbox. I wonder how long this box took to create and how the creator went about building it. This thing really needs a wipe, it’s seen better days that's for sure.
Number 3, AT-AT Walker mailbox. There’s nothing like pulling your mail out of the butt of an AT-AT walker. There seems like there is a weird obsession here with people who build their own custom mailboxes like to pull their mail out of the butt of something nonetheless amazing construction on this mailbox.
Number 2, Steampunk Mech mailbox. One of the most creative mailboxes I’ve ever seen, I wonder how the mailman reacted when he or she first saw this? This one can cleverly hide or sell the weather stains and rust as part of the design, smart thinking.
Number 1, Ugly Dragon mailbox. Now I’m sorry to the person who owns this but this thing is REALLY ugly. I can appreciate the craftsmanship and hard work that went into building this but it’s really ugly but not only that it’s definitely thee most outrageous, and that’s why it tops our list.
Which mailbox did you guys love and which one did you hate? Let me know in the comments below.

3 DIY Homemade Submarines
3 DIY Homemade Submarines
3. DIY Steel Submarine
-Built in 2008, Tao Xiangli built this 21 foot, single passenger submarine for just over $4,600
-While a submarine built for under 5 grand may seem cheap but considering the area of China Tao Xiangli is from this is around a year’s salary in China.
-He built this submarine out of refashioned metal barrels and spare parts from thrift stores and secondhand markets.
-The sub weighs 1 ton has headlights, pressure meters, oxygen supply, monitoring cameras and a tv.
-Tao has only tested the submarine in landlocked waters in Beijing and hasn’t yet been able to test the sub at it’s full depth of 10 meters or 32 feet.
-He’s paid for this hobby, if you can call it that by working at a karaoke bar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfLq1e49Ewg
http://thescuttlefish.com/2011/06/tao-xianglis-home-made-submarine/
2. Subo Kayak Submarine
-Olivier Feuillette an experienced kayaker decided one day that kayaking on top of the water just was not exciting anymore which is where he got his idea for the kayak submarine.
-This submarine doubles as a functional kayak when you want to enjoy the sun and a sea worthy submarine to get those awesome underwater views
-Once the hinged hatch is sealed, an oxygen tank provides all the oxygen needed for a journey under the sea, a CO2 filter can be used as well to extend the Subo’s air supply up to 3 hours.
-Now you must be thinking how does he paddle the kayak when it’s underwater right?
-Well Olivier built in a rudder that moves like a whale or fish fin that is human powered.
-The major downside to this is the harder you work at powering the fin the more oxygen you waste in the cabin.
-What do you guy’s think, cool DIY Submarine or potential underwater coffin?

1. Drainage Pipe Submarine
-Justin Beckerman built the Nautilus, a single person scrap part submarine.
-The sub came together when from scavenged parts like an abandoned soda fountain machine he found in a parking lot.
-He pulled out a compressed-air regulator and other smaller parts from his parking lot find.
-The 18 year old wanted to build a personal submarine to travel around Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey.
-This is actually the 2nd submarine Justin has built, the first one was simply too cramped so with the 2nd version he convinced his parents to buy a section of 2 foot wide, 8 foot long drainage pipe so he could sit upright with legs extended.
-This sub is entirely built with no welding, everything is put together with glue and screws and can dive to 9 meters or 30 feet.
-A skylight made of ¼ inch thick acrylic was added to the top as well as four 10 gallon plastic water containers were added as ballast tanks for stability and the ability to raise or lower the submarine in the water.
-The sub uses a four way splitter to supply air to each of the tanks and solenoid valves control the compressor to pump air.
-A trolling motor gives this submarine life, or ability to move through the water
-It took 6 months to design and build the submarine at a cost of around $2000.
-After first testing the sub in a bathtub, then an handful of tests in the lake Justin was able to submerge this sub for 30 minutes in a deeper section of the lake while being able to communicate with her parents by running a radio antenna up to a float.
-His first problem occurred while testing this sub when he quote “ran out of oreos” deep in the lake.

Top 7 Weapons used by Pirates
7.Grappling Hook
The grappling hook or boarding hook was a weapon of pirate times that was used to attach one ship to other, usually a crippled ship, bringing it in to be boarded. The most common design had a single metal shaft with 3 or 4 equally spaced hooks at the top and an eye at the bottom which was where the roped was tied. Ships were either crippled first by cannon shots then boarded and raided before it sunk or no crippled and taken over and added to the fleet. Crippled ships had food, cargo, inventions, machines, weapons and battle plans raided before the vessel would go underwater, this was only made possible by the grappling hook. Prior to the grappling hook men would try to board a ship from a small row boat. These pirates were picked off quite easily as they tried to climb the ship. Once the hook was invented and ships were brought together the ship with more heavily armed fighters would almost always win the battle which was usually pirates.
6.Stinkpot
The stink pot was a clever invention that was essentially a round container with chemicals in it. Once it was set on fire it would create a cloud of horrendous smelling odours. The idea was very simple once two ships were close enough light the stink pot on fire and throw it at the enemy ship like a grenade. The smell would cause its victims to panic, flee and vomit. This simple invention made for easy ship boarding by pirates.
5.Firearms
Whether it's a blunderbuss or a musket, firearms were a popular weapon among pirates.
The blunderbuss is a shotgun used at short range. It scattered lead balls in a wide arc, not a weapon of accuracy but more of a spray and pray type gun. The musket on the other hand was used to take out pirates boarding ships from a distance. It is one the earliest forms of the sniper rifle. Pirate captains like Blackbeard often has small pistols they kept hidden for dire situations.
4.Hand Weapons
Belaying pins are small bats used by pirates to help secure ropes but they also doubled as strong club if the situation arose. Knives and daggers were a very common weapon but used as a last resort. They are small, concealed and deadly but are only usable at close range. Boarding axes were a very versatile weapon of pirate times. They were used to cut ropes, chop into lower levels of ships, they allowed pirate to board a ship from the ocean by chopping into the hull and climbing their way up. In combat the boarding axe added an additional 2 feet of range which could mean the difference between life and death. Marlin spikes are spikes made from metal or hardened wood which had their uses on a ship but could also be used as a club or dagger. The most popular hand weapons of pirate times were the sabre and cutlass.
3.Grenado
The grenado or powder flask is an early form of the hand grenade. Grenados were similarly constructed to stink pots but filled with gunpowder. The fuse was lit and the flask was tossed with devastating effects. Sometimes simpler is better, this was the case with power flasks, just make sure the person throwing them doesn’t trip.
2.Cannon
The cannon was the main defence of any pirate on the high seas. Surprisingly pirates would op from using large cannon balls as they would flat out destroy an enemy ship. More commonly gravel, musket balls and nails were loaded into a cannon and fired which would damage the ship’s rigging. This would allow pirates to easily board the ship, raid the goods and commandeer the ship. Grapeshot, a special type of round was used to clear the deck of an enemy ship. The round consisted of multiple layers of iron balls wrapped in canvas which were sometimes separated by metal or wood. When fired the balls would scatter impacting a wide area making it perfect for clearing people off the deck.
1.Reputation
One of the most powerful weapons at sea was a pirate’s reputation. Some pirates worked hard at building their reputation and displaying their image like Blackbeard. He wore the long jacket, had swords and guns at his side, was smoking wicks and had that big burly black beard he’s famous for. His ship too was a menacing site. He had up to 40 cannons on a single ship which would rival any Royal Navy warship.

Top 10 LONGEST Bridges on Earth
10. Hangzhou Bay Bridge, China
The Hangzhou Bay Bridge opened on May 1st, 2008 making it the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world. It spans 22 miles or 35 km in length which took 4 years to complete. The bridge connects Ningbo’s Cixi to Jiaxing. This highway bridge features a cabled-stayed portion in the middle which was chosen to endure, earthquakes and typhoons that can occur in the region. The completion of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge reduced a trip from Ningbo to Shanghai by 112 mi or 180 km and reduced the time traveled by 2 hours. The challenging design of the bridge required over 600 experts a decade to design. Offshore construction, turbulent waters, and pockets of underground methane are just a few of the construction obstacles faced by engineers during this project. Half way across the bridge is a manmade island called Land between the Sea and the Sky which houses shopping, parking, restaurants and a hotel.
9. Yangcun Bridge, China
Opened in August, 2008 the Yungcan Bridge completed the Beijing Tianjin Intercity Railway. This high speed rail only bridge connects the 73 mile or 117 km path between Beijing and Tianjin. The bridge itself measure 22 miles or 35 km in length just as the previous bridge but this one is just 650 feet or 200 meters longer. The building of this bridge reduced the time between northern China’s two largest cities from 70 to 30 minutes.
8. Manchac Swamp Bridge, USA
The Manchac Swamp Bridge carries Interstate 55 almost 23 miles or 36.7km over Lake Maurepas in the southern US state of Louisiana. This 4 lane bridge spans ⅓ of the highway’s total distance is over water. It cost 7 million dollars per mile to build the bridge, piles were driven 250 feet, 76 meters into the swamp floor to make sure it was stable. An impressive feat of engineering this bridge opened in 1979 and features a Twin concrete trestle bridge design which took 120,000 ft or 36,000 meters of concrete to complete its construction.
7. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, USA
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge also in Louisiana runs a total distance of 23.8 miles or 38.4 km. This 4 lane bridge completed its first round of construction in 1956 being the southbound section and in 1969 the northbound section was complete. The idea for this bridge has been around since the 19th century, in the 1920s an idea for a long bridge hopping across multiple islands was proposed. In the 1930s a ferry service opened up and by 1948 a concrete plan was devised to build the Lake Pontchartain Causeway.
6. Beijing Grand Bridge, China
Completed in 2010, the Beijing Grand Bridge opened in 2011 and spans 29.9 miles or 48 km between Beijing and Langfang. This bridge is a high speed rail bridge or classified as a railway viaduct bridge that floats over the surface of the ground. The longest span on this bridge measures 354 feet or 108 meters.
5. Bang Na, Highway, Thailand
The Bang Na, Highway in Thailand or officially known as Burapha Withi Expressway is a 6 lane mega toll bridge that floats up off the ground. It is considered to be an elevated viaduct with average spans of 138 feet or 42 meters.
4. Weinan Weihe Grand Bridge, China
Yet another bridge in China, ya they like they’re large bridges, the Weinan Weihe Grand Bridge is a part of the Zhengzhou-Xi’an High-Speed Railway. This railway connects Zhengzhou and Xi’an in China. The bridge is 49.5 miles or 79.6 km which crosses the Wei River twice as well as the Luofu River, Shidi River, Xi River, Ling River as well as highways and other railways.
3. Tianjin Grand Bridge, China
Another railway viaduct bridge on this list the Tianjin Grand Bridge in China runs between Langfang and Qingxian which is also a part of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. This monstrous bridge measures 70.6 miles or 113.6 km.
2. Changhua-Kaohsiung, Rail, Taiwan
The Changhua-Kaohsiung Viaduct is the world’s 2nd longest bridge which was completed in 2007. It spans 97.8 miles or 157 km from Baguashan in Changhua County to Zuoying in Kaohsiung.
1. Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge, China
The grand daddy of them all, the longest bridge in the world, currently is the Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge just outside of Shanghi, China. The route was completed in 2010 and opened in 2011 after a 5 year construction period. It took 10,000 people and cost $8.5 billion to build this 102.4 mile or 168.6 km bridge. This bridge travels across both land and water and roughly parallel to the Yangtze River.

Phone Booth in the MIDDLE of NOWHERE
Phone Booth in the MIDDLE of NOWHERE
The Mojave phone booth was a public phone built in the middle of nowhere. This phone located in what is now the Mojave National Preserve in California, was built 8 miles or 13 km from the nearest paved road and 15 miles or 24 km from the nearest numbered highway. On top of that there are no buildings for quite some distance from this phone booth. This phone booth has a compelling history, originally built in 1948 to provide phone service to local volcanic cinder miners, this telephone was the result of a mandate the government of California put in place to serve residents in isolated parts of the state. While this phone benefited the few residents of the area as well it built because Cima Cinder Mine owner Emerson Ray put in the request to the state. From 1948 until the 1960s a hand-cranked magneto phone was used. This old style of phone was replaced with a rotary phone in the 60s then eventually a touch-tone phone in the 1970s.
In 1997 this phone booth gained mass attention after a Los Angeles man found this phone booth on a map and visited the site. He wrote a letter about his trip to the phone booth to an underground magazine. A computer entrepreneur by the name of Godfrey Daniels, saw the letter and started the first of many websites dedicated to the Mojave phone booth. Fans started calling the phone and visiting the phone. People even camped out for days at the phone booth just to answer calls coming in. Several of these people kept the recordings and shared them online but overtime too many visitors brought a lot of garbage and graffiti. In 1999 John Glionna, a writer for the Los Angeles Times met with a man who claimed the Holy Spirit had instructed him to stay by the phone and answer it. This man spent 32 days beside the Mojave phone booth answering over 500 calls. One of these calls came from someone who identified himself as Sergeant Zeno from the Pentagon. The phone didn’t last much longer as in 1999 the Cima Cinder Mine was receiving a lot of pressure from local citizens, the National Parks Conservation Association and Mojave National Park. They joined together and threatened to sue Lorene Caffee, Emerson Ray’s daughter, who took over the mine after her father’s passing. The day before the lawsuit was filed, the superintendent of the Preserve visited Caffee which ended with Caffee submitting and ending the 45 year family mining operation.
The next year on May 17, 2000, Pacific Bell removed the phone booth at the request of the National Park Service. The number was retired and a headstone like plaque was placed at the site. This colorful headstone didn’t last long as it was removed by the National Park Service. This story inspired the creation of Dead Line, an independent short film, Mojave Mirage, a documentary, and Mojave Phone Booth, a full length motion picture.
The phone number of the phone booth, (714) 733-9969, changed twice to 619 then 760 due to area code changes. This number was eventually relinquished by AT&T to perrlessnetwork.com in March of 2013 as part of a pooling scheme. The final number (760) 733-9969 was acquired by Lucky225 in July of 2013 was now rings using VOIP. Callers can call in to enjoy a random conversation just like when the phone was active.
