Today we are going to show you how to a White Marble Epoxy a Counter to complete our double vanity we built a few weeks back. It is a lot of steps but it is really easier than you might think! Is an epoxy surface worth it compared to laminate? Thanks to Total Boat for sponsoring this video! Check out their products, including the marble kit we used: https://totalboat.com We started with a double layer of 3/4" MDF that we laminated together to get a thick, stable counter top. We then primed with white primer, poured a seal coat of tinted white epoxy and let that cure. Then followed up with another thicker layer of white epoxy and added black fissure lines by hand using some black tinted epoxy, after the resin had set up enough to be stable but not flow off the counter we removed the tap from the edges so that the white and black epoxy would spill over the edge. We cleaned up the drip marks, flipped the counter over and poured a seal coat of epoxy on the bottom of the counter. Once the bottom throughouly cured we flipped the counter back over to pour a clear layer of epoxy on the top of the counter to seal the entire piece, Add the faucets and install! Looks great and has been holding up perfectly for about 5 weeks so far now. Is epoxy easier, or cheaper than laminate, no but you can make things you cannot by and while the process is a lot of steps it is not difficult and pretty fun! Today we replace some terrible glass closet doors with beautiful wood DIY Sliding Closet Barn Doors that only cost about $50 and are very simple to make. We will transport everything up north to the lake house and show you how to install kitchen cabinet uppers and lowers. We need to install the face frames on those cabinets and then bolt the uppers to the wall at the correct laser measured height. Then the lowers get installed using shims and the laser again. Can we call our DIY Epoxy Countertop Success? We definitely learned some lessons that will help us pour a better epoxy counter next time BUT we took the failures and turned them into a successful result and a beautiful faux marble counter top. Bit thanks to @TotalBoat for supplying the product for the counters and sponsoring the channel. http://www.totalboat.com/ You can also purchase total boat products on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3s8BEGG Get your DIYTyler Swag and all other work gear from @KeyApparel https://DIYTyler.com/merch 📔📙All our Digital Plans: http://bit.ly/2Mm6slA We used Total Boat tabletop epoxy resin to pour the counter tops over a double layer of 3/4" particle board. 1) We installed the particle board substrate, sealed the wood with a rolled on layer of epoxy (Lesson 1, we should have tinted this layer of epoxy to help us get better final color coverage. I mentioned painting the particle board in the video but this may not be a good idea, may cause the epoxy not to adhere perfectly.) 2) Sanded the seal layer and taped off the counters to get ready for the main epoxy pour. Make sure you do a good tape job, don't want the epoxy to run away on you! Drop cloths as well! 3) Mix up enough epoxy in your base layer of color. Flood the counters with this layer and spread evenly, this layer will help the colored layers of epoxy flow better. 4) Build up your bucket of epoxy that is colored. We went with a dirty pour method were we mix the colors together in layers separated by a shot of spray paint. Be sure to have small buckets of your accent colors set aside if you want to accent the counters after the main pour. 5) Pour the main bucket of color in a patter of choosing. (We did A LOT of trial and error to get what we wanted.) 6) Accent the counters as desired. 7) After the epoxy has set up a bit take the tape barrier down and let the epoxy slowly drip over the edge. Use trowels and glove covered hands to keep things in control. 8) After the color coat has cured if you want a thicker counter and more protection you can add a final clear coat as we did. Same process, sand, pour clear...watch your edges. Most of the trouble we had was with the edging, we didn't get enough coverage for good color so we had to trim the edge back down to add a trim that was painted the base color. A bit more work but we got a satisfactory result in the end. Hopefully our mistakes will help you! We will transport everything up north to the lake house and show you how to install kitchen cabinet uppers and lowers. We need to install the face frames on those cabinets and then bolt the uppers to the wall at the correct laser measured height. Then the lowers get installed using shims and the laser again. Today we are completely changing the look of the damaged family lake house with a Luxury Vinyl Floor Installation | LVP Flooring Install over existing Plywood and NASTY Laminate Flooring. These new vinyl plank floors are very easy to install, they cut very easily, click together fast as you can move and don't require a backing pad as it is included as part of the flooring plank. 👕Rugged work wear you will like from Key Apparel! I suppose it was all that was available and it was the rage back then just like these LVP floors are all that right now. Maybe young bucks will be making fun of this floor 30 years from now! LVP Installation is very easy: 1) Measure to make sure your room is square and accommodate if needed. If you need to hide some "Unsquareness" you can break up the difference and hide it under the trim board that will go around the room after the floor installed. 2) Make sure all nails, staples and foreign objects are removed from the floor or they will not allow the floor planks to sit flat and can telegraph through the planks. 3) Make sure the sub floor is flat, you can hide a bit of unevenness under these floors but it needs to be over a large distance. We had two spots that were no good, one I needed to plane and sand down, the other we used several layers of tar paper to fill the "hole". Worked perfect! 4) Installed your first row of planks making sure to leave a 3/8" gap along the walls. Again, you can hide some of the room unsquareness here if you need to, just make sure you are not tight against any wall as this can cause the floor to pop up as the seasons change. Yes, LVP floors still expand and contract a bit. 5) Install away! We found it best to tip up the plank and insert the long grove, make sure it is tight against the previous plank, snap down and use a mallet to close the short seam. Use a tapping tool to make sure the long seam is closed tight. 6) If you need to cut or drill holes in the vinyl planks it is very easy, this stuff cuts like butter! 7) That is really it! There are a few tips and tricks in the video to help you install the floor easy and to help prevent measurement mistakes. Can a DIYer Airless Spray Paint Metal Building? The addition on the house has been done for a while now and is much closer to the metal barn (which houses the DIYTyler shop) then it was before so you noticed the color difference between the vinyl house and the metal commercial style barn color. 🌿Thanks to Greenworks Outdoor Power tools for powering us through this video! It is a 30x40 barn with metal siding and trim. The trim was a different color than the trim on the house, and the siding didn't match either. To make matters worse there was a lean-to added to the back of the barn that is YET a different color of brown! This had to change! You can rent Airless spray equipment, where we live a medium duty sprayer is less than $100 for a full day rental. 📔📙All our Digital Plans: http://bit.ly/2Mm6slA We decided to paint the metal trim and siding to match the other buildings on the property. Here are the steps we took to transform this barn for about $500!. 1) We began by replacing the man door that was rotting on the bottom due to water damaged before we put a gutter on the barn. This was $200 all by itself! 2) We then removed those gutters as they were the correct color and had no need to paint them. 3) Removed an rust on the metal siding using a wire wheel on an angle grinder, there was not much but a few spots mostly on the seams. 4) Powerwashed the entire barn using Simple Green House and Siding cleaner and our Greenworks 2300psi Electric power washer. https://bit.ly/3jrpvaB 5) We then used Rustoleum rusty metal primer to prime these areas to prevent rust from starting again. This primer cost about $15. 6) Then painted the trim a dark brown using Sherwin williams Super Paint (all super paint cost me $300) which is an outdoor waterborne paint that is perfect for painting metal that already has paint on it. We sprayed the trim using a Graco TC Pro cordless airless paint sprayer. 7) Masked off the Trim we just painted using Sharp Lines tape (3M) and masking paper. 8) Painted the metal siding using tan Sherwin Williams super paint. Sprayed 6 gallons of this paint using a Graco ProX17 sprayer, took me about 4 hours to finish all the painting. 9) Remove masking right after you have coverage otherwise the paint will dry on the tape and you could peel paint up. 10) Clean up and sit back and admire the transformation! 👕We do have some new graphic apparel and some very sweet hats available from Key Apparel! It really lets in a LOT of light, I am very impressed. Started with resetting the 4x4 posts, adding all the purlins and building and installing the trusses. Trimmed the soffit and the corners using 1x3 pine and painted the entire shed with a outdoor rated paint that matches the color of the house. Painted the shed now so that I didn't have to pay attention to keeping the red roof clean or taping anything off. Installed the Ondura roof and followed that up with the Tuftex white polycarbonate light panels. Installed the heavy duty door and we were done, very, very sturdy shed and I couldn't be more pleased. After a long day's work there is nothing better than sitting on something you build while surveying your hard work. When I designed this swing I made it so that it could be built from dimensional lumber you can get at the home center but I had a bunch of cherry I got got pennies on the dollar, I really like the look of cherry so that is what I used! You can use pressure treated lumber, cedar, or even white pine as long as you finish it promptly.
