This is my first set of baby chicks. I ordered them from Cackle Hatchery. They are the Crested “Top Hat” Special and the Feather Footed Bantam Assortment Special. I ordered 10 of each mix. If I had it to do again, I would not have ordered the mixes because I'm using these to start a breeding program. I love my babies, but business wise ordering specific chicks would have been a much better plan. We also have 1 guinea and three silkie babies that survived a freak storm in this group. Well, they're exercising their wings. All the babies came out here after looking. I was looking to see what I might have because I ordered some mixes. Not knowing what I was doing. Well, you all are flying. Yeah, I ordered some mixes, not realizing what a mess I was causing. I call that one Dropkick. Oh, babies. I thought that freaking Silkies couldn't fly? There's my guinea hen. There's two boys going at it. Pretty sure they're boys. You see everybody. Come on. All the action happening at the edges. Hey, babies. Come here bubba. I gave them grass for the first time yesterday. I probably should have recorded that. Well, first time for the little ones. All right. Bossy Butt. I guess this stuff ain't good enough, no more. There we go. You can see everybody. These guys are now a weekend or two and a half weeks old. And the big ones, I'm not sure. They're at least four weeks old, maybe older. Like Dropkick right there, he may be older. And there's my little guinea hen. I think Dropkick is a rooster. I don't know what kind, but I'm pretty sure he's a roo. Pretty sure. Hi, baby. I have been trying different bedding for the coops, and here's what I learned. Hey, guys. I wanted to show you something I thought was interesting. My husband and I chose not to put a floor in my chicken coops. And this right here is horse pellets. You see how dry this is? And you can see there's like holes for air. Now, I'll show you over here. This. You see how wet that is? This is wood chips. And my game plan is to get some saw... some of the pellets, and put them in here. So that's my idea. Wow, on this early morning day, what I'm trying to do is help my wife put together an incubator. You're like, oh, this is a refrigerator. Looks like. It is, we're going to change a refrigerator, that has a glass door, into an incubator. Or at least try to do that. We have an incubator, warehouse kit, and we've got to provide through the wall into the inside to fans slash heaters. There's two of them. This is not a fancy kit, but we're going to try and see if we can make it fancier, way bigger incubator than what she had. So the first thing I would do is drill in the center. Because that's where the temperature gauges and controls are. I'm using a half inch bit.I don't know if it's good enough. We're going to see I think it might be. So this control with another one goes on the outside. If the wires are longer, I would probably locate it towards the top. But because the wires are not very long, there's two fans for such a big incubator. I have to put it toward the center and I'll have to put a applied for it to hang on so she can see it. But these wires need to go inside and control the fans. And since the hole is not big enough for both them at the same time, I've got to get it through one at a time. And there's a little bit of room for the little timer that we're talking about putting in. "And we'll have heater probes, too, when the new heater comes in or when a new thermometer comes in." Okay. So this is the cord that plugs in this is going to be here. I'll try put a piece and I'll have to make a piece of metal. Bend it and stick it out. I'll show you when I do that. But right now, this is the incubator where I start, come into your kit and these are both heaters and fans. "We will..." At the same time go ahead. "We will leave links in the description to where we got these. We also plan on later doing a different type of kit, more of a do it yourself kit in case you can afford the really expensive I mean, but these weren't really expensive. They were a $125 for the basic and two heaters and then $20 total for the egg turner kits and the egg turner. We're just going to use old egg turners. There you go, I'm done."

I tried out 2 airless paint guns. They were great for the first time, but when I went to use them the next time, they didn't work. I spent 20-40 minutes cleaning the guns, still no good. So, I'm going to say they are not for me. It could easily be operator error, but I'm not into spending $30-40 for onetime use. I will say they are better than roller, faster. I cleaned it up, thought it was clean. My husband tried to use it this morning. It's broken. So if you're willing to spend 30 bucks to save several hours of time, it's probably worth it. If not, Nahh, I don't know that I'll buy another one because I'm missing something. This is the second one that has broken on me. Anyways, I thought I would update on that. I think my buff-laced polish chicken are finally starting to trust me!! I've had them for about a week, and they are finally starting to eat the goodies I bring out every day. I bought this bale of straw way back when I first got the chicks. The guy who was taking care of the babies at first didn't want to use that much straw. It set in one of our empty rentals...Until we had a torrential downpour and I needed something to dry my chicks in the new barn. That is why we keep damn near everything we buy. This is Chris, of Chickens For Chicks. This is where my babies are, and I would love for you to come on along with me on my journey in homesteading and learning about my chickens and doing all that fun stuff. I am feeding my baby's eggs, one because it's rainy and nasty. And I wanted to give them some herbs, but also because I bought this straw way back when I first got these babies and the guy who was taking care of them didn't want it didn't want it. But I came out here and you can see everybody soaking wet. They're soaking wet. I don't want to lose any of my babies. So I threw hay in here or a straw and I may throw some more to get them dry. That is another case of using what you had. I had this straw sitting in, I had a whole bale of it. In fact, I was in trouble with my husband because I put the damn thing in the back of my truck. But. And you see that little splash Rooster right there and that little splash rooster right there. They're learning to crow. Come and get some. Come on, babies. Come and get some. But you can look at Dropkick, Powder. Where's Dina? Dina Butt They look like drowned rats. I think they've been out here in the rain this whole time. But even Babe and them, look. Look at their crests. It's horrible. They act like I kill them when I do stuff like this. But then you look at them. Oh, it's warm. Oh, it's warm. Because, I mean, Arkansas did one of its crazy assed things and the weather just changed. We had to turn all of our air conditioner down or on a hot economy because the house was so fricking cold this morning. I was grabbing the blanket from my husband. We keep on the couch, but as you can see, they are slowly forgiving me. I hate havening to traumatize them, but damn. So it's official. I have two splash co--. Hey, hey, hey. Leave her alive. Sorry, that hen was grabbing one of my black babies. Anyways, I have to splash roos, I have a blue polish roo, I have a blue polish roo. And then in here I have a Mottled Houdan rooster and a splash polish rooster. And the rest of them are girls. So I got kind of lucky. The only problem is my Houdan. I can't find any girls for him. I'm going to have to probably wait till next year. My husband and I are planning. I really want to keep him. I might end up haveing to make a damn bachelor's pad. Although these guys pretty much had their pecking order taken care of and the head pecker is Jenny, which I think Jenny is a Jack. So anyways, lesson of the day, bribery works most of the time, and sometimes you have to scare them to do what's right for them. Oh, and I replace the girls with hay because they do not like those pads at all. Don't like it. All right.

The chicks have started pipping. Can you tell I'm excited?? Oh my God. I'm so excited. These are my first eggs to pip. That one's piping. I don't know. I don't know how much more... Look. If I had it to do again, I would not have ordered the mixes because I'm using these to start a breeding program. I love my babies, but business wise ordering specific chicks would have been a much better plan. We also have 1 guinea and three silkie babies that survived a freak storm in this group. Welcome to the chick flick of the day, June 9, 2022. I think they have been in the new brooder for 2 or 3 days. Something I am learning, over and over, about chickens: They don't like ANY changes. My first set of baby chicks growing up. They hatched these babies out on May 23. We got them on May 24. I ordered them from Cackle Hatchery and have been super happy with what I got. It's of harder to keep track of who's doing what, trying to get them to come over. And there's somebody. It looks like they might be hot. Which is kind of understandable, it's kind of hot. Hey, guys, this is. I've made it to lockdown with my first set of eggs. I started out with 18, and then at day seven, we dropped to 17 because one of them was not fertilized. Then I checked them again at day 14, and everybody made it through. But when I candled last the or no when I handled this morning, we lost another five. So we are in lockdown somewhere between now and Thursday, I should have babies. My first time at the poultry auction...And lesson learned: Don't believe what they tell you. They said I had 2 Red Cochin Bantam Frizzle pullets. By the time I got home I was pretty aware, nope, pullet and cockerel. Welcome to the chick flick of the day, June 8, 2022. This is only their second day in the new brooder, and chickens aren't much for change. My first set of baby chicks growing up. They hatched these babies out on May 23. We got them on May 24. I ordered them from Cackle Hatchery and have been super happy with what I got. This is my first set of baby chicks. I ordered them from Cackle Hatchery. They are the Crested “Top Hat” Special and the Feather Footed Bantam Assortment Special ordered 10 of each mix. If I had it to do again, I would not have ordered the mixes because I'm using these to start a breeding program. I love my babies, but business wise ordering specific chicks would have been a much better plan. We also have 1 guinea and three silkie babies that survived a freak storm in this group.
