Mayor Hammond expected to approve Communist statue
UPDATE: The city council and mayor have approved all of the art pieces excluding the communist fist. One city council member voted in favor of the communist fist statue, Dan English.
How did we get here? Mayor Hammond appointed Abby Light to the Arts Commission. She was placed on the ArtCurrents sub-committee, which selects artwork to be installed in the city. One of the statues selected was "Solidarity", a raised, clenched fist. Abby is on video saying it is "...an important and good statement."
CDA Arts Commission unanimously approved this statue. Jennifer Drake was not concerned with public backlash, but questions were raised about being forced to take it down before the 1 year period ended, like the hammer and sickle statue, Marker 11, in 2019.
When the mayor approves the statue, it will be installed in Coeur d'Alene through the ArtCurrents program and the artist will be paid $1,000 with taxpayer funds. It will be available to see for a 1 year period with an optional 2nd year, and another stipend of $1,000 to the artist.
Quotes from that July 26th meeting:
"I am really energized by these pieces."
Amy Evans, City Council
"...an important and good statement."
Abby Light, Arts Commissioner
"It's going to be the same handful of people who complain about it..."
Jennifer Drake, Arts Commissioner

CDA officials respond to public concern with threat of censorship
The Coeur d'Alene city council and mayor have witnessed several concerned citizens in public comment. In January, it was ARPA. In February and March, it was CDA2030 and the consideration of the approval of an Arts commissioner with a recent and very indecent public portfolio.
The mayor has made comments about these outspoken citizens and very few words on their concerns.
A request to limit public comment was made and all of the city council have spoken before a vote this Tuesday, June 7th.
Will the citizens of North Idaho be punished for sharing their concern with city officials?
This video shows how speaking outside of the agenda is valuable, citizens from outside city limits can help warn us, and public comment longer than 30 minutes can create impact. It's no wonder this has to be restricted. Do city officials want a docile public while they manage the decay?

CDA City Council Members Discuss Limiting Freedom
This is an important video to watch to understand the way our city council haphazardly approaches limiting freedom when addressing elected officials. You can start to see a slow erosion of our rights happening right in front of you.
Several new rules are discussed. These rules highlighted involve only CDA residents addressing the council, only content pertaining to the agenda, limiting total public comment to 30 minutes, and having to give your true name and address. So they will control the nature of the message, the allowed speaker, and how long they can speak for. YouTube censorship in your local government.
Consequences for violating these rules are also touched on. One council member said this was a good starting point.
As you watch, you can imagine a genuine scenario that an area-citizen would violate these rules for simply addressing their grievances.
Over the course of several months, we have seen citizens from neighboring cities try to warn us of this erosion of rights in public comment. This would now be considered a violation. Citizens uneasy about giving their real name for privacy concerns would now be considered violating these rules.

A Day At The Library
Disclaimer: The footage of children's materials covered in this video is not for minors.
Community members raise concern that regional libraries are exploiting an Idaho state exemption that gives legal defense protection to provide materials that may cause harm to children.
This video illustrates the questionable books, promotional videos, Idaho state law, and public comment.
Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene Library Board Meetings, February 2022.
The Coeur d'Alene Library gives children access to these books without separation or notice.
Idaho House Bill No. 666 aims to remove the exemption that has been exploited by the libraries. If this bill passes, and the case is proven that children are harmed by these materials, the public library may be held liable for child abuse.

A Rogue City Council
The Coeur d'Alene city council is informed of the legal risks of accepting ARPA funds before voting on January 18th, 2022.
The city council violated open meeting law by voting at a previous workshop without properly informing the public of an "action item" on the agenda.
The city council is informed of Arizona's unwillingness to comply with ARPA mandates and the Treasury requiring funds to be returned.
The city council expects to follow the rules that come with grants despite the public warning of non-compliance and recoupment.
The city council is surprised by the public reaction, but votes against the public, risking the Rights of all citizens.
