About this video:In today's video we will be inspecting the Army and Navy hives, smashing beetles and painting the queens in each of the hives. Spring is rolling in and so is the nectar and these two flow hives are ready to catch the liquid gold.
About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy beekeeping and this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this beekeeping channel as well as videos from beekeeping creators I have listed below. This is my third season as a beekeeper and everything I have learned came from YouTube and mostly from the channels listed below.
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
A little about you:
If you are new to beekeeping or are interested in becoming a beekeeper this channel might be for you. In my beekeeping adventures I show everything from my beekeeping successes to my beekeeping failures. I hide nothing and am never afraid to admit to a mistake.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn beekeeping and to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

This week we will be installing the 2nd of 6 Bee Barns in the bee yard. The Green hive will be the lucky recipient. Unfortunately for me they don't know how lucky they are and they just get mad.

Stop Laying Workers. My solution to stop laying workers in the red hive. The End of Red Dawn.

Stop the laying worker in the red hive. This is the solution I have settled on to correct the problem with the laying worker bees in the red hive. After considering all of the suggestions from all of the comments this is the solution I felt was right for me, this hive, and my bees. You may choose to solve your laying worker situation differently than I have here and that is OK. We all have to do what we feel is correct in our situation. All situations are different. This is the last thing I wanted to do but honestly, the hive was dying with a population consisting of nearly 60% drones and growing daily as more drones hatched and workers died off. Thank you for watching.
If you are considering installing a sustainable or edible landscape or becoming a beekeeper or starting beekeeping as a hobby this is the channel for you. I will show you everything I learned in my first years of beekeeping and you can learn with me as I experience and overcome the challenges I encounter in my second year and beyond. I will also feature some how-to videos because I am perpetually curious and creative and am always building something.
Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.

How to stop Small Hive Beetles? Installing the Guardian small hive beetle entrance on all hives.
The battle between beekeepers and small hive beetles continues year after year, but this year someone invented a solution. I will be installing Guardian small hive beetle deterrent in my entrance reducers in an effort to prevent small hive beetles from getting into the hive. If I can keep the small hive beetles out of the hive I can stop using the beetle blaster and not risk spilling oil in the hive which would result in killing my bees. I learned about the Guardian small hive beetle deterrent from Michael Fike and Barnyard Bees so I thought I would give it a try.
We will check back in a few weeks to see how they have done and see if they were worth the money. If you are interested in obtaining these Guardian beetle preventers you can purchase them at Barnyard Bees. https://barnyardbees.com/

This video can be seen as a lesson on how not to install a queen honeybee. If I had done a lot of things differently this queen would still be alive and the hive may have survived.
This was my last attempt at adding a queen to the red flow hive. All the bees loved her until she laid an egg. After the first egg came the first sting and five minutes later she was on her last legs. Sorry queen. the Red Hive is doomed.

This is the final look for the Red Queen in the Red Flowhive before re-queening. I will inspect every frame and even look in the flowhive frames for her. The last thing I want to do is buy a new queen for this hive only to have the Red bees kill her.

The Red Flowhive has been an evil hive since the beginning of the season. The bees are the spawn of an"Italian" VSH Queen from California but I think she may have a little Africanized bee in her. The bees are very aggressive and attach me every time I open the hive. Now it's time for her to go. I am on a seek and destroy mission to find the evil queen and remover her. We also welcome a new queen to the bee yard. Hello Purple queen!

About this video: Friday the 13th Fan Film
I live on Crystal Lake | Bug Farmer Halloween Special
Even though this is a beekeeping channel I like to keep it light and have fun so from time-to-time I will release something a little special. I figured since it was fall I would go back to the 1980's horror films and recreate one of my favorite characters from Friday the 13th. Jason Voorhees. This was a fun video to make where I got to actually explore my camera gear a bit more and also my editing. From using green screens to input LUTs, to Day to Night and grainy filters, I really feel like I learned a lot. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and pass it around. I hope you enjoyed this flash back to 1980's horror and campy cut rm' up movies. No bees (or humans) were harmed during the making of this video. :-)
Premise:
One month ago an old summer camp from the 1980's reopened on the other side of the lake. Ever since that happened there have been a lot of strange things happening. Partying camp counselors, bonfires , loud music, etc.. Now I can't go outside without feeling like someone is watching me. It's just getting plain creepy around here. It doesn't stop at creepy, Jason Voorhees pays me a visit while I am working the hives and just when it feels like I'm a goner fate steps in to offer a helping hand. It almost seems like Friday the 13th.
Special thanks to Lady Bullion and Hubby B for your help and support. My first collaboration video was fun. Please visit Lady Bullion and Hubby B for a great time and all of the latest about silver and gold stacking.

The Blue hive has decided to split and creates a massive swarm in the tree and over the house. The sound is audible from the ground. It is certainly a sight to see but losing this many bees because of my own errors when inspecting the blue hive is depressing. We also have a quick look at the end of the video at the Flow Hive super which the bees are filling quickly! the nectar flow is on in Georgia!

How to Stop a Swarm - Yellow hive tried to swarm but I shut them down. Thanks Frederick Dunn! The Yellow hive decided to swarm in the middle of dearth which is a suicide mission. My only chance to save the queen was to prevent the swarm. Thanks to a trick taught to us by Frederick Dunn it was possible to stop them. As soon as I saw the bees beginning to swarm I turned on the sprinkler and viola! The bees thought it was raining and canceled their plans. This little trick gave me enough time to get my gear on and do an emergency split. The question is will it work this time of year?

DIY Beehive Heater -- Part 1 of 4 How to build a climate control system for your beehive.
Internal Beehive Heater- How to build a beehive heater. Not only does this system heat your beehive, but it cools your beehive as well. The goal of this system was to build a system that works with standard Langstroth or flow hives and keeps the bees cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This hive heater works. If you want to build a beehive heater that works and is easy to build this is the heater for you. Simple design and all off the shelf parts which were ordered from Amazon. Nothing complex here. Just a working beehive heater with step by step how-to instructions so you can build your own. Your bees will love it.
Here is the list of items you will need. They will also be listed in the comment section. If you build, like and use this hive please give a shout out to the Bug Farmer if you have a channel. Also, please like, subscribe, and ring the bell. :-)
Below is what you will need to build the climate control system. The list does not include links to miscellaneous needed items like wire, glue, staples, plywood, hardware cloth etc., stain, paint, sandpaper, varnish, etc.
