#AndySchectman: #Silver Premiums Continue To Come Down In this week's physical silver report with Andy Schectman of Miles Franklin, Andy reports some good news, as #silverpremiums have continued to drop. There was a significant spike in premiums earlier this year during the surge in demand following the bank failures. As investors rushed into the #gold and silver space in response to the banking turmoil, in an environment where Federal Reserve assistance and talk of bank bail-ins left many concerned about the safety of their money. However over the past 2 months we've seen a steady drop in the premium levels as the market has returned to a sense of normalcy. Whether the banking issues are a thing of the past remains to be seen. Although with economic data suggesting that we are likely still headed to a recession later this year, along with the Fed continuing to suggest that there are more hikes on the way, there's a large segment of the market that believes we have not seen the end of the turbulence in the banking sector. #VinceLanci: Getting Liquidity When You Sell Your #Silver One of the challenges of the silver market is that buying and selling physical silver isn't quite as straight forward as your typical stock or ETF trades. There are different premiums for each gold and silver coin, and as opposed to having a centralized exchange for stocks where all of the bids and offers are aggregated, different precious metals dealers will have different buy-back bids and processes. So one of the things to keep in mind when you're buying silver is to think about the 'exit liquidity' of the product you're buying. #SilverPrice Falls Again, But Supply Gap Remains Unresolved It's been a tough 2-day stretch in the #gold and #silver markets, as the prices are down again on Wednesday, falling shortly after the COMEX open in New York. A familiar theme, that comes the day after Tuesday's plunge following the COMEX open in New York. Gold remains up on the year, although silver is now in negative territory, while the miners continue to struggle. Yet perhaps the positive to be found in the situation is that this is all occurring in an environment where the silver supply is already in a deficit, that the current pricing is set to exacerbate. #Silver Trading Even With All Eyes On The Fed Next Wednesday It's been a rather quiet week in the gold and silver markets, perhaps unsurprisingly, with the market's attention largely focused on the Federal Reserve's upcoming policy meeting next Wednesday. Where the Fed is largely expected to leave its target interest rate unchanged, yet possibly offer commentary in regards to whether there will be more hikes going forward. And in early trading on Wednesday, gold and silver experienced some volatility, yet were largely flat, as they again traded almost directly inversely to the US dollar index. Something to keep an eye on is how the other global central banks approach their own interest rate hiking policies relative to the Fed, with government inflation rates still elevated (even more so than in the US), which could lead to more hikes abroad while the Fed conceivably reaches an end point in its own upward rate trajectory. All of which is what has dominated the prices of gold and silver in the recent months, with the markets believing that the Fed is almost done, and that there could be cuts towards the end of the year. #AndySchectman: #Silver Continues To Leave The #COMEX While the US political system reached a resolution to once again raise the debt ceiling last week, the unfortunate news going forward is that the deficit spending is now in place to increase at an even faster pace. Because throughout all of the debate in regards to the debt ceiling, one question that was never addressed, is how the debt loads will ever be repaid. With the likely answer being that they never will, as it's long ago passed the point of even being mathematically possible. Which is why so many continue to turn to gold and silver. And at the same time the debtloads continue out of control, perhaps it's not a coincidence that the stockpile of silver on the COMEX continues to dwindle, and has now dropped below 28 million ounces. Keep in mind that there were 150 million ounces in the COMEX registered category as recently as 2021, before a steady and consistent drain has brought the inventory to a shockingly low level. There's been a steady drop in that inventory ever since the silver squeeze of 2021 (along with a drop in the LBMA vault supply, and now Shanghai's as well), and one can only wonder at what point there begins to become some concern in the broader investment community. How Is The #SilverSupply Going To Fund The Deficit? Earlier this year the Silver Institute's World #Silver Survey was released, and they showed that the #silvermarket was in a 237 million ounce deficit in 2022. Which is a sizable gap in a market where the annual supply is just slightly over 1 billion ounces. Yet even further exacerbating the situation, is that not only are the deficits in place to persist over the coming years, but the current dynamics in the silver market show little evidence to support that the imbalance is going to be resolved any time soon. #AndySchectman: #Gold Rallies Following Tentative Debt Ceiling Agreement The gold price is rallying Tuesday morning, following the tentative agreement to the debt ceiling situation, which calls for a suspension of the debt limit until January 1 of 2025. While the bill still needs to be passed in Congress, the agreement moves the situation one step closer towards avoiding a default on the US treasury debt. Yet seemingly does little to change the long-term dynamics that include a skyrocketing national debt, and ballooning interest payments on said debt. With the markets closed on Monday for Memorial day in the US, we're seeing a rally in the gold price (although a flat trading environment in #silver). And Andy Schectman of Miles Franklin checks in to share his thoughts on how the markets are viewing the potential deal, and where that leaves gold and silver going forward. He talks about how investors are responding to the situation, and also the trend by many states in the US to introduce gold and silver initiatives.
