On the first trading day of 2023 even CNBC was highlighting the gold market, and with inflation still high, while the Fed nears the end of its interest rate hiking policy, the precious metals are looking more attractive on a relative basis. #KuyaSilver Acquires Right to Purchase 100% Interest In Silver Kings Joint Venture Kuya #Silver had an announcement this morning as they have acquired the right to purchase a 100% interest in their #SilverKings Project from Electra Battery Metals. The previous agreement had given Kuya the right to acquire a 70% interest in the project, and now if the deal goes through as planned, Kuya will increase that to a 100% interest in the Cobalt silver mining camp, which they believe has potential for high-grade near-surface silver. #AndySchectman: #Silverpremiums remain low to start 2023 After seeing a shortage of #silver products and significantly increased premiums towards the end of 2022, the logjam has eased. As the premiums have come in to start 2023, while the delays in most silver products have subsided. The holiday season has traditionally been a slower time in the physical retail silver market, and this past year was no exception. Which resulted in a softening of premiums and order flow over the final 5 weeks of 2022, that have allowed the dealer market to get caught up and see a normalization of conditions. #Silver in '#COMEX Registered' Up To 36.8 Million Ounces As we are now only 1 trading day away from the end of 2022, we take a look at the latest figures in the COMEX registered silver category, and also review the other themes that dominated the silver market in 2022. The amount of silver in the COMEX registered category continued what's now almost a 2 year decline in inventory, that began in February of 2021 during the #SilverSqueeze, and has continued ever since. Of additional significance is that the LBMA vault holdings have experienced a similar trend, as countries like India and Turkey have set record silver import figures. Which perhaps comes as little surprise, as we've seen a lot of countries turn to gold amidst the economic and currency chaos of the past year, and despite the larger than normal gold to silver ratio, the interest in silver continues to grow as well. In the end, after a vicious selloff earlier in the year, silver is likely to finish 2022 in positive territory, which would have seemed far fetched as recently as October, when the price was back near the lows of the year at $18. #SilverPrice Is Sensing End of Fed Rate Hikes After falling from over $26 dollars in early 2022 to under $18 towards the end of the summer, the #silver price has rebounded at the end of the year with a 33% rally that's brought the price back up over $24. #RafiFarber - Is Elon Musk Becoming a Silver Stacker? Remember that guy that bought Twitter for $44 billion dollars? Musk or something? Well, had he bought silver for $44 billion instead, the Twitter problem would have taken care of itself. The good news is, it looks like maybe Elon Musk is interested in silver and may buy his own mine. So suggests Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad Poor Dad fame, who is close with the world's richest man. Beyond Kiyosaki though, now we have some more evidence that Musk could be turning into a silverback, because Musk is now following our friends at #WallStreetSilver. Meanwhile, paper silver funds have been draining for 10 straight months, the longest losing streak for paper silver funds in at least 20 years, and this as the spot price appears to have already bottomed 3 months ago. #Gold Repatriation & Central Bank Buying Are No Coincidence Throughout 2022 there's been a theme of protecting assets against geopolitical risk. Central banks have been buying gold at a record pace, while others have been repatriating their gold holdings to keep them safe from jurisdictional risk. A risk that took on new significance this year after seeing Russia get kicked out of the SWIFT system, while many of their assets were frozen. Can #goldprice keep rising as Fed keeps hiking? Gold and #silver sold off sharply for much of the summer as the Fed was aggressively raising #interestrates. Yet the metals have reversed that trend and rallied while the Fed has kept hiking, suggesting that the equation is not as straightforward as assuming that precious metals are going to get clobbered just because the Fed is tightening. In fact, if you look back through history, there's ample evidence suggesting that during some of the bigger interest rate hiking cycles, gold has performed extremely well. So in today's call, I talk with Greg Crennan of Golden Coast Consulting, who has studied the topic extensively, and shares what he thinks is a more realistic assessment of the relationship between gold and interest rate policy. He also talks about the correlation between the VIX (the volatility index) and gold, and how gold often rises more so when there's just outright fear in the market. As well as how gold doesn't do as well during the speculative phases of the market, as investors are often allocating capital to stocks in hopes of increased gains in the markets. #RobKientz: Silver sees increased deliveries in China While there's been a lot of attention placed on the declining inventories of silver in the LBMA and COMEX stockpiles, in today's call Rob Kientz of GoldSilverPros talks about some of the developments in China.
