#GoldPrice Stays Near $2,000 Even As Fed Keeps Hiking One of the remarkable events in the precious metals space over the past year is how the gold price has rallied, even despite the Federal Reserve continuing to hike interest rates. Both gold and #silver sold off sharply over the summer months of 2022 as the Fed was hiking at 75 basis points per meeting. Yet the metals have recovered over the past year even as the Fed has raised rates higher than expected. And despite the gold price being off its highs of the year, it still remains within shouting distance of the $2,000 level. So in today's call I talk with Shane Williams of West Red Lake Gold about the dynamics in the gold market, how the market has responded in the past year, some recent bank reports on gold, and the conditions in the gold mining sector. #AndySchectman: #SilverPrice Volatile In Week Since Fed Hike It's been a volatile few days in the gold and #silver pricing following last week's Federal Reserve policy meeting and rate hike. The metals traded higher following the announcement and Jerome Powell's press conference, before getting hammered lower the following morning. Then there was another spike higher on Monday of this week, before seeing the price plummet again on Tuesday. All of which is in some ways not entirely surprising given the less than clear messages given by the Fed. Because while the markets were wanting to hear that the rate hikes are over and that the July hike would be the last one, Powell and the Fed again refused to say as much. Perhaps because they remain in a situation with no easy answers or solutions, with prices still rising faster than their 2% mandate. And in today's call with Andy Schectman of Miles Franklin, we discuss the dynamics the Fed is facing, and why continuing to raise interest rates also comes with its own set of challenges. In addition to talking about the Fed, Andy provides an update regarding the BRICS and the possibility of them announcing a gold backed currency, after listening to Jim Rickards speak at a conference last week. #VinceLanci: China's Monster #Silver Buyer Revealed As the dynamics in the silver market have changed in recent years and left silver in a yearly deficit, one of the driving factors has been the large amounts of silver that China is using, in particular for solar panels. A Look Inside #FortunaSilver's #Séguéla Mine in Côte d’Ivoire One of the biggest developments for Fortuna Silver this year has been achieving their first gold pour at their Séguéla Mine in Africa earlier in this May. That was the culmination of their deal to acquire Roxgold, which led to them building a mine at Séguéla, that's now operational and producing #gold. #DaveKranzler: What's Next For #Gold & #Silver After Fed's Latest Meeting There's been a volatile reaction in the gold and silver markets in the 24 hours following the Federal Reserve's latest interest rate hike. The metals jumped slightly higher following the announcement, before selling off sharply on the COMEX open in New York this morning after the ECB rate decision and the release of a stronger than expected US GDP report. Which perhaps is not entirely unexpected, given that the markets are trying to price in the future path of interest rates in the US and around the globe. A path that's less than certain, and was once again left somewhat open-ended by the comments of the Fed's Jerome Powell and the ECB's Christine Lagarde. Inflation remains high in both regions, even by the governments' inflation metrics, and while many market participants were hoping that the hikes would be the last in the current cycle, neither central banking official went as far as to confirm that. So in today's show, Dave Kranzler comments on the latest move from the Federal Reserve, and where that leaves the precious metals markets. A Physical #Silver Trading Alternative To The #COMEX One of the biggest gripes among silver investors is how the price is set on the COMEX, by paper contract trading that can often bear little to no resemblance to what's actually happening in the underlying physical market. #AndySchectman: Does It Matter If #BRICS Launch #Gold-Backed Currency In August? One of the biggest topics in the gold and silver space throughout the summer has been the possibility of the BRICS nations announcing the launch of a gold-backed currency at their meeting this August 22-24. #RafiFarber - Is Money Supply About to Explode Higher The rally in silver is now in its fourth week and we're all wondering where and when the pullback is going to start. It should be soon, given that silver's open interest has rocketed from 113,000 to now just over 150,000 since June 29. That's 37,000 contracts opened in less than a month. But while speculation is hot on the silver futures market, it's dead in the silver ETFs, as SLV has liquidated about 13 million ounces since this rally began, indicating negative retail interest in paper silver. In banking system news, reverse repo money from 2021 continues to flood into the Treasury's bank account. Money supply could really climb fast once the Treasury spends all that into the economy. Is The #SilverPrice Where It Should Be Tracking the #silver price and determining its fair value may well be one of the trickier topics in finance. Because in addition to there being a few different ways in which market participants feel it should be priced (monetary metal, industrial commodity), there's a rather non-linear price history which sets a wide range of expectations for those who invest in or follow the silver market. Obviously 2 key data points that stand out are the spikes to the $49-50 range in both 1980 and 2011. Which have a lot to do in terms of setting expectations of what many investors feel the silver price can do in extremely volatile environments. And that's left many investors baffled in terms of the current $25 price that's half of the highs experience 43 years ago, despite more currency, debt, and silver demand in the world than ever before. Yet if you remove those 2 spikes and take another look at the silver chart over the past 50 years, there's a degree to which the silver price looks like it's right on track. It shows an upward sloping curve that's similar to gold or the US debt load, with the two spikes perhaps serving as a warning of what could occur during periods of concern about the overall stability of the financial system.
