Pride Invites Destruction - Proverbs 16:18
Pride doesn't just come before a fall; it invites it by drawing God's ire. If you want to leave a lasting legacy, humble yourself and align your goals with God's.

Religious Leadership and Withered Fig Trees in Matthew 21
Yeshua's attack on the fruitless fig tree seems very strange until you put it into the full context of the chapter and realize that it's part of a literary structure that spans more than half the chapter. It's really about leadership that is failing to help the people produce fruit. Yeshua replaced the religious leadership of his day with the Twelve Disciples, not as priests, but as the national teachers, prophets, and judges of Israel.

Sabbath History and Myths with Kelly McDonald
The Common Sense Bible Study crew has a conversation with Kelly McDonald, president of the Bible Sabbath Association about historical myths and realities of the weekly Sabbath.
When did Christians start calling the first day of the week "Sabbath" instead of the seventh day?
Who made this change and why?
Is there a Biblical basis for it?
When did Christians stop observing the seventh day?
What was Constantine's role?

Tyrants, the People, and God in Proverbs 14:28
An excerpt from the weekly online Bible study at Common Sense Bible Study (https://CommonSenseBibleStudy.com).
Even the worst tyrants have to provide for a majority of their people or they will be deposed. The Technomafia wants to sidestep this principle by imposing total control of thought and speech over all people on earth, turning every human being into a slave with no will or liberties that the Technomafiosos don't allow. How can we fight this? First by trusting in God. Second by openly proclaiming Truth no matter what.

The Two Donkeys of the Triumphal Entry in Matthew 21:1-11
The text almost reads as if Yeshua road two donkeys at the same time, but that's just silly. There were two donkeys present for prophetic and symbolic reasons, and there are other symbols in the passage that are important to see.

Proverbs 13:24 - How is it hateful to spare the rod?
This is a segment from the weekly Bible study at Common Sense Bible Study.
A little pain today often prevents a lot of pain later in life.
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
Proverbs 13:24
This verse is very controversial today, but it wasn't always. The anti-spanking movement that mostly started in the 1960s has created a generation of neurotic adults who have no understanding of God's standards and very little understanding of basic cause and effect as it relates to life's major decisions.

A Sabbath unto the LORD - Introduction
The weekly Sabbath is discussed over 130 times in the Bible in at least 23 separate books. It was established at Creation and has its own covenant, separate from what we usually call the "Old" and "New" Testaments. Judah was exiled from the Promised Land in part because they neglected the Sabbath. It has been a controversial flashpoint between Christians and Jews and between one Christian group and another for almost 2000 years.
There's no getting around the fact that the Sabbath is an important concept in God's communications and interactions with mankind, and so it's important for us to understand it.
This is the introduction to a series on the weekly Sabbath. This series will cover four important parts of understanding the Sabbath:
1. What is the Sabbath?
2. Why is the Sabbath important?
3. Who is the Sabbath for?
4. When is the Sabbath?
Each of these parts will be split into multiple videos of approximately 5 to 15 minutes.
I intend to take the viewer through the major, relevant scriptures one at a time, showing how each passage relates to the topic and what it means. I hope you stick with me through the whole thing. I'm going to cover a lot of ground, and I think you'll be surprised by some of the things you learn!
Part 1 will be available to everyone here on Youtube. Parts 2-4 will be available through Common Sense Bible Study at https://CommonSenseBibleStudy.com. I appreciate any financial support you can offer by purchasing one of the subscription packages there, but you can get access for free if you can't afford it or want to check me out a bit first. ;-)

Does Hosea 2:11 Say God Would Cancel the Sabbath?
And I will put an end to all her mirth, her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her appointed feasts.
Hosea 2:11
This verse sounds an awful lot like God was saying he was going to cancel the Sabbath, but that's not what it says at all. Remember to understand the full context of a Bible passage before you try to understand a single verse in it.
Hosea is actually saying that Israel was abusing all the good things that God had given them, so he was going to take them away temporarily until they repented. Then he would restore them again.

Being a Light in a Dark World with Rabbi Michael Schoening
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." -Yeshua
Matthew 5:14-16
What is light? Is the world really getting darker or are we just more aware of the darkness? What can we do in practical terms to shine God's light in the world?
The Common Sense Bible Study crew (https://CommonSenseBibleStudy.com) have a conversation with Michael Schoening, a rabbi at The Olive Tree Messianic Synagogue in Colorado Springs and the author of The Unwind: 30 Evenings for the Entrepreneurial Mind, about being a light for God in a very dark world.

The Sabbath As a Sign. Exodus 31:13-14
You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Exodus 31:13-14
The weekly Sabbath is a sign between God and Israel, whether natural born or grafted in, of our faithfulness and sanctification. It's one of the only commandments that can't be derived from natural law, and it's so important to God that deliberate violation carries the death penalty.

Amos 3:7-8 When Did God Say the Sabbath Would Change?
“For Adonai YHWH does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets. The lion has roared; who will not fear? Adonai YHWH has spoken; who can but prophesy?”
Amos 3:7-8
God told Israel to remember numerous events from the past, but there's only one specific commandment to REMEMBER to do something in the future: "Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy." The weekly Sabbath is at the very heart of his relationship with his people. If God gives his prophets advanced warning of every really significant thing he's going to do, don't you think he would have said something about canceling the Sabbath?

A Sabbath to the LORD? Exodus 20:8-11
The seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.
Exodus 20:10
What does it mean to have a Sabbath to YHWH? Is it for his benefit? Is it a Sabbath from his perspective? No, it's a Sabbath in his honor. If you want to honor God, keep the Sabbath on the seventh day as he instructed. What God has made holy, let no man defile.

Proverbs 7 - The Utility of Moral Boundaries
Building fences for yourself--safeguards and boundaries that keep you from getting into situations that lead to temptation--can be very helpful if you *want* to do what's right. However, if you're looking for trouble, those fences won't protect you.

Genesis 2:1-3 - The Sabbath Predates Creation
And God blesseth the seventh day, and sanctifieth it, for in it He hath ceased from all His work which God had prepared for making.
Genesis 2:3
God never does anything haphazardly. Everything is planned; everything is in order. He created the world on a timetable with each element created on a specific day for a purpose. He made the plants to sprout on the third day because it was important that it happen on the third day. God could have made everything in a single instant, yet he designed a process that required seven days. During that time, nothing caught him off guard. Nothing surprised him. He didn't reach the end of the sixth day and say to himself, "Whew! I need a break!" The Seventh Day Sabbath (not the first day or the fourth day) was an inherent part of God's perfect plan from before Creation.
