Hello and welcome to Altrusian Grace Media on YouTube. I’m Matthew Schmitz, audiobook narrator, musican and curator of this collection of my original videos. This channel focuses on ancient, rare, or obscure texts not readily accessible to the public with a focus on Gnostic, Alchemical, and Hermetic traditions and an occasional fictional piece. Some of the books are rarely read or even heard of since they were first published a hundred, sometimes thousands of years ago. I breathe new life into them not only with my unique narrative style but also by adding my own original musical compositions which help to create a relaxed atmosphere for the listener which often makes it easier to absorb the information presented as opposed to hearing just a plain voice narration. In addition to the original compositions featured during my narrations, you'll find the various music projects that I am involved in such as Psyclopean, Sleestak, Illuminated Void, and others. I narrate all the books and texts found here, I interpret and perform them, so that the wisdom of this great knowledge can be enjoyed anew. This has led to hundreds of my works being digitally distributed worldwide and registered with BMI, a performance rights organization. I also create and/or creatively manipulate all the artwork to accompany the audio which includes using various effects and video editing software. This makes for a unique and visually interesting backdrop to keep the listener and viewer engaged with the material. Often times this involves painstakingly reformatting and editing these old texts and incorporating them into the art itself so that it is more accessible in a video format. This has proven extremely valuable for those who enjoy reading along or learning English. I often do extensive personal reading into the books, scouring the dark corners of the internet to hunt them down and research to find related images and assets that may have been part of the original publications. Many times I have to use photo editing software to enhance or repair these images because of low resolution or poor digital scans. Thomas Vaughan's Allegory Of The Mountain - Esoteric Alchemical Text. A short allegory from Thomas Vaughan Lumen de Lumine, or a New Magical Light, London, 1651. Using Thomas Vaughan's allegory of the mountain as a backdrop and drawing insights from the myth of Demeter and Persephone, this text elaborates on the challenging and paradoxical path toward individuation, which, in this case, is metaphorically expressed as climbing a mountain. Although, at first, it is often assumed that individuation is a straightforward process of moving forward and upward, this article demonstrates that this is not the case. Rather, individuation is a complex endeavor that initially takes one down instead of up. In other words, to climb the mountain is to encounter the prima materia, to come face to face with one's shadow, and to take the many unforeseen detours away from the ego's fixed goals. Zosimos of Panopolis (also known by Zosimus Alchemista, i.e. "Zosimus the Alchemist") was a Greco-Egyptian alchemist and Gnostic mystic who lived at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th century AD. He was born in Panopolis (present day Akhmim, in the south of Roman Egypt), and flourished ca. 300. He wrote the oldest known books on alchemy, which he called "Cheirokmeta," using the Greek word for "things made by hand." Zosimos provided one of the first definitions of alchemy as the study of "the composition of waters, movement, growth, embodying and disembodying, drawing the spirits from bodies and bonding the spirits within bodies." In general, Zosimos' understanding of alchemy reflects the influence of Hermetic and Gnostic spiritualities. He asserted that the fallen angels taught the arts of metallurgy to the women they married, an idea also recorded in the Book of Enoch and later repeated in the Gnostic Apocryphon of John. The Dhammapada is a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form and one of the most widely read and best known Buddhist scriptures. The original version of the Dhammapada is in the Khuddaka Nikaya, a division of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism. The title, "Dhammapada," is a compound term composed of dhamma and pada, each word having a number of denotations and connotations. Generally, dhamma can refer to the Buddha's "doctrine" or an "eternal truth" or "righteousness" or all "phenomena"; and, at its root, pada means "foot" and thus by extension, especially in this context, means either "path" or "verse" (cf. "prosodic foot") or both. The Bakemono Zukushi (aka The Monster Scroll) The images featured here are from a Japanese painted scroll known as the Bakemono zukushi. The artist and date is unknown, though its thought to hail from the Edo-period, sometime from the 18th or 19th century. Across it's length are depicted a ghoulish array of "yokai" from Japanese folklore. In his The Book of Yokai, Michael Dylan Foster describes a yokai as: "a weird or mysterious creature, a monster or fantastic being, a spirit or a sprite... creatures of the borderlands, living on the edge of town, or in the mountains between villages, or in the eddies of a river running between two rice fields. They often appear at twilight, that gray time when the familiar seems strange and faces become indistinguishable. They haunt bridges and tunnels, entranceways and thresholds. They lurk at crossroads." The class of yokai characterised by an ability to shapeshift, and that featured in this scroll, is the bakemono (or obake), a word literally meaning "changing thing" or "thing that changes". The Book Of Lambspring - An Esoteric Alchemical Manuscript - Full Alchemy Audiobook. This is a well known work which was first published by Nicholas Barnaud in 1599. It consisted of a series of 15 verses outlining the alchemical process. It was later issued by Lucas Jennis as part of Dyas chymica tripartita, 1625, and this was illustrated with a series of 15 engravings, together with a symbolic coat-of-arms and a frontispiece. The book avoids complicated allegorical symbols found in other alchemical treatises, and the images are rather plain, symbolizing opposition, struggle and overcoming. The emblems deal with the art of alchemy with the aim of creating the philosopher's stone, which can be used to transform metals and obtain a universal medicine (panacea).
