Constitution Amendment To Require Women To Enter The Draft Proposed
A fight over whether women should be required to register for a potential draft has been revived in #Congress.
Last year, Congress appeared on the precipice of making women register with what's formally called the Selective Service System, but the idea was dropped from the #defense policy bill signed into law after closed-door House-Senate negotiations despite having bipartisan support.
Now, the proposal is back in the version of the National Defense Authorization Act, or #NDAA, making its way through the #Senate, and conservatives are again vowing a fierce fight against what they refer to as "drafting our daughters."

Biden's Military Makes A Move That Improves People's Lives
The Marine Corps is creating a billet aimed at keeping dual-military families -- marriages where both spouses are service members -- together during moves to new duty stations.
The billet, which is called the dual-military coordinator, will act as a liaison between couples and their career monitors in an attempt to alleviate stress associated with orders assignments, which can result in families being separated from each other for extended periods of time. Such separations are a quality-of-life issue that can directly affect a Marine's decision to stay in the service.

USSR Cosmonaut Left In The International Space When The Soviet Union Dissolved
On May 18, 1991, cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev departed Earth for the Soviet space station Mir. While he was up there, the country that had sent him ceased to exist, making Krikalev – for a few months at least – the "last Soviet citizen".
he was selected as a cosmonaut, and spent years in training, working on everything from repair of the space station to conducting spacewalks.
Unfortunately, his training didn't incorporate what to do when you are left in space with no official space organization (or country), which on his 1991 mission aboard Mir would have been much more useful.

Iran Attacks Israel And What That Means For US Troops
Displaced Palestinians trying to return to their homes in northern Gaza recounted being shot at by the Israeli army in a video verified by Al Jazeera on Sunday.
At least 33,729 Palestinians have been killed and 76,371 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139, with dozens of people still held captive.
Palestinian doctors said they have discovered another mass grave in the vicinity of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital, recently besieged by Israeli soldiers. At least 10 bodies have been recovered so far.
Israel’s army chief has said Iran’s weekend attack “will be met with a response” shortly after Israel’s war cabinet convened to discuss how to respond.
At least two more Palestinians have been killed in the village of Aqraba, southeast of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, in the latest of a series of attacks carried out by Israeli settlers.
Fighters with the Lebanese Hezbollah group detonated an explosive device after Israeli soldiers “crossed the border”, wounding four troops.
The Israeli army has renewed warnings for Palestinians not to return to Gaza’s north a day after its forces opened fire on desperate civilians trying to return home.

Senate Hopeful And Navy Seal Lies About Being Shot In Afghanistan?
Tim Sheehy is a former Navy SEAL Officer who deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific region, according to his campaign. Sheehy also says he was the first Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy to participate in the Army’s Special Operations exchange program and the first to graduate from the Army’s Ranger School. After graduation, he was commissioned into the Navy and completed SEAL training. During his service, Sheehy received a bronze star for valor and a purple heart after he was knocked unconscious by an IED blast, according to local reporting.
Sheehy was medically separated from active duty due to injuries he received in Afghanistan, according to a resume posted by the Montana legislature. He’s also the CEO of Bridger Aerospace, which provides aerial wildfire surveillance and firefighting services to federal and state government agencies.
Since launching his campaign, Sheehy has widely shared an anecdote of a gunshot wound he said he received while on deployment to Afghanistan.
“I got thick skin — though it’s not thick enough. I have a bullet stuck in this arm still from Afghanistan,” Sheehy said in a video of a campaign event posted to social media while pointing to his forearm.

Legendary Bag Piper Played In The Water While Normandy Was Stormed
Bill Millin was the "Mad Piper" who played allied commandos ashore under heavy German fire at Sword Beach in Normandy on D-Day, on the extreme eastern flank of Operation Overlord.
Before we really hop in, we need to set the scene a little bit and give the historical context.
Sword Beach was one of the five landing zones on the Normandy coast during the D-Day invasion of World War II. Here are some key events that took place at Sword Beach on June 6, 1944:

Haiti's Crisis Is Reaching A Violent Tipping Point
Criminal gangs more powerful than Haiti's state security forces have attacked prisons and the airport serving the country's capital, forcing businesses and schools to close and driving an estimated 15,000 people from their homes in Port-au-Prince. On March 12, Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced that he would resign once a transitional presidential council was created, capitulating to international pressure as his country faced what some experts had already labeled a low-scale civil war.

Air Force Member Self Immolates In Protest Over Israel/Gaza Conflict
A U.S. service member has died after setting himself on fire Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., authorities confirmed Monday.
A video posted online showed the man shouting "Free Palestine" as he burned during the incident, which lasted about a minute before law enforcement officers extinguished the flames at about 1pm.
The man appeared to be in military uniform and identified himself as "an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force." Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek confirmed via email Sunday evening that "an active duty Airman was involved in today's incident."
The Israeli Embassy said in a statement that none of its staff was injured and all were safe.
The latest: The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said in a statement Monday that after first responders arrived on the scene the man was "transported by DC Fire and EMS to a local hospital where he later died."
Police identified the man as Aaron Bushnell, 25, of San Antonio, Texas.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing, MPD said.
In the video of the incident, Bushnell said he would "no longer be complicit in genocide," which the Israeli military was accused of committing in Gaza in an International Court of Justice case brought by South Africa. "I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest."
The MPD said in a post to X that its Explosive Ordnance Disposal was called to the 3500 block on International Drive in northwest D.C. "in reference to a suspicious vehicle that may be connected to the individual," but it later reported that no hazardous materials had been found.

Kate Is Back! And Putin Is Once Again Murking His Detractors
Once again, Putin is ordering his rivals killed.
The attacks range from the exotic — poisoned by drinking polonium-laced tea or touching a deadly nerve agent — to the more mundane of getting shot at close range. Some take a fatal plunge from an open window.
Over the years, Kremlin political critics, turncoat spies and investigative journalists have been killed or assaulted in a variety of ways.
On Friday, Russian authorities said President Vladimir Putin’s key political challenger, Alexei Navalny, died in an Arctic prison colony. The details of what happened are unknown; Navalny’s team says it has no official confirmation of his death and Russian authorities say they are establishing why he died. His allies previously accused Russian officials of trying to poison him with a nerve agent in 2020.
Assassination attempts against foes of Putin have been common during his nearly quarter century in power. Those close to the victims and the few survivors have blamed Russian authorities, but the Kremlin has routinely denied involvement.

Man SWATTED 47 TIMES!.... And Owes 50k For It
For 18 months, a teenager allegedly operated a “swatting” service out of his father’s California home, where criminals could call in a hoax bomb threat or mass shooting almost as easily as ordering a burger on UberEats.
Alan Winston Filion, 17, is suspected of targeting hundreds of high schools, mosques, historically Black churches, US senators and even the US Supreme Court with swatting attacks that placed thousands of people in the crosshairs of heavily armed police response teams.
Prosecutors say the 6ft 3in teenager advertised his services under the pseudonym Torswats on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, charging as little as $40 to get someone’s gas shut off, $50 for a “major police response”, and $75 for a “bomb threat/mass shooting threat”.
Mr Filion would then post chilling audio of the 911 calls on Telegram as a proof of purchase, according to court documents.
Among the hundreds of “swats” that Torswats allegedly claimed credit for were multiple hoax callouts at the home of Patrick S Tomlinson, a Milwaukee-based science fiction author who says he has been swatted dozens of times in the past four years as part of a targeted harassment campaign by a group of “sociopathic” stalkers.

Senior Army Officer Gets Slap-On-The-Wrist For Repeatedly Recording Minors In The Bathroom
An Army lieutenant colonel who trained future officers will receive a reprimand but serve no jail time for spying on a changing room with a hidden camera at a store that caters to teenagers and young adults.
Army Lt. Col. Jacob J. Sweatland served as chair of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA when he was arrested for hiding a camera in a dressing room in a PacSun clothing store that was discovered by a teenage girl.
Military legal experts say the case is the latest example of the military justice system letting senior officers off with a slap on the wrist for serious sex-related offenses. Though the store was off-base, the local prosecutor stepped aside from the case in order to let the Army prosecute Sweatland. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office called the offenses “outrageous and indefensible invasion of privacy.”
A military judge sentenced Sweatland to be reprimanded at a Jan. 22 special court-martial at Fort Knox, Kentucky as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, said Ian Ives, a spokesman for U.S. Army Cadet Command.
Sweatland pleaded guilty to one specification of indecent visual recording and one specification of conduct unbecoming an officer under Articles 120c and 133 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Ives told Task & Purpose.
“A Military Judge often has a range of punishments available in a guilty plea,” Ives said. “The accused has the right to submit matters in extenuation and mitigation to the Military Judge during a pre-sentencing hearing. After considering all the evidence presented by the government and defense,

Winston Churchill's Teeth or Hitler's Coffee Mug?
Round 1:
A Navy captain’s yelling and public “humiliation” of her officers and crew was so severe and frequent — once for the mistake of pointing out dolphins swimming nearby from the ship’s bridge — that sailors were afraid to bring bad news to her attention. That “fear culture” aboard the USS Lake Erie, a scathing Navy investigation found, could have created “a higher risk of having a safety or operational mishap” and an “unsafe command environment where sailors do not … exercise sound judgment.”

WashingtonCNN —
On at least three occasions over the last two months, former President Donald Trump has claimed that the leaders of unnamed South American countries are deliberately emptying their “insane asylums” and “mental institutions” to send the patients to the United States as migrants.
In each version of the dramatic story, Trump has claimed he recently read about a doctor at a South American mental institution who said he used to be busy but now has no work to do because all of his patients have been released into the US.
In a mid-April speech to the National Rifle Association, Trump said: “I read a story not long ago where a man who takes care of a large segment of people in a mental institution in a South American country, a doctor, sounded like a great man actually – he said he no longer has anything to do. He used to work 24-hour days. He said, ‘All of our patients have been released into the United States of America.’”
Trump added more color to the story in a Thursday campaign speech in New Hampshire: “There was a story recently about a psychologist. Or psychiatrist. But a psychologist. Who worked in mental wards in South America. And he said, ‘I worked 24…’ – a good man – he worked 24 hours a day taking care of very mentally ill people. And he was sitting there reading a newspaper and they asked him, what – what’s he doing? He said, ‘I have no more work. The people have all been let go into the United States.’ Can you believe? This is what we’re doing.”
