Sometimes we can focus more on our PLACE at the table rather than our PURPOSE for being at the table.
20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21“What is it you want?” he asked. She said,“Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” 22“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.“Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”“We can,” they answered. 23Jesus said to them,“You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”24When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25Jesus called them together and said,“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”Matthew 20:20-28
How to miss my purpose:
“I want an UPGRADE.” - The seat of PRIDE
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.Proverbs 16:18,
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.Isaiah 66:2,
7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.Timothy 1:7
“I took the WRONGseat.” - The seat of FEAR
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.Isaiah 41:10
“I can’t TAKE a seat.” - The seat of SHAME
5And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.Romans 5:5

REPENTANCE

PERSPECTIVE
18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.2 Corinthians 4:18
OBEDIENCE
22But Samuel replied:“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord?To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.1 Samuel 15:22
Defining my purpose
19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”Matthew 28:19-20
7He said to them:“It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”9After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.Acts 7-9
God wants to reach everyone, and He wants to use MEto do it.

3. We can do anything a pastor can do.

We are made incredibly different from each other.
We are made for incredibly different purposes.
”If all of us were the same then many of us would be unnecessary.”
Remember it is not about us, it is about dad!
If we don’t love them it is hurting us!!It is our body.
We have two choices
Love those at the table.
Leave the table.
Matthew 5:23-24“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
You cannot love God and hate his children.
How did I get my seat at the table?

Mark 14:32They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples,“Sit here while I pray.” 33He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them.“Stay here and keep watch.”35Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36“Abba, Father,” he said,“everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“Simon,” he said to Peter,“are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”39Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.41Returning the third time, he said to them,“Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. our first line of defense is to seek God in prayer.
“Abba, Father,” he said,“everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”Mark 14:36
First he prayed
Then he stayed with his closest friends.
“Abba, Father…not what I will, but what you will.”Mark 14:36
Pray in this way; as a child to a loving father.
2 Corinthians 12:10“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Key to building up resistance is to temptation - turn to God first, PRAY!

Why did Jesus give this lesson? Because He knew the human heart …
… the heart which deceives us into thinking that we have priority over others.
… the heart which hungers after a greater position.
… the heart which is not satisfied with its lot in life.
“Power corrupts … and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
Real power means following in the footsteps “of the Master
Mark 10:35“Teacher … we want You to do whatever we ask”.
Jesus ministry is not about fulfilling personal favors…all about building personal relationships
Jesus knows the heart is deceitful.
“Lord, are You at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”.
Kingdom of Jesus is not about rule and authority.
Request is a very self-centred request
Mark 1:19-20:“When (Jesus) had gone a little further, He saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay (Jesus) called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed Him”.
Mark 5:35-37.“While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler.‘Your daughter is dead,’they said.‘Why bother the teacher any more?’Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler,‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’He did not let anyone follow Him except Peter, James and John the brother of James”.
Mark 9:2-3:- “After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There He was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.”
We are all an essential part of the body.
Jesus way…great = servant.
first = slave.
Acts 12:1-2.“It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword”.
It is not “who you are” it’s “how you serve”

Luke 4:1-13“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.3The devil said to him,“If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”4Jesus answered,“It is written:‘Man shall not live on bread alone.”5The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6And he said to him,“I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7If you worship me, it will all be yours.”8Jesus answered,“It is written:‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.”
9The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.“If you are the Son of God,” he said,“throw yourself down from here. 10For it is written“‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully11they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”12Jesus answered,“It is said:‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’13When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.”
Characteristics of temptation
1.Temptation is universal.
Luke 4:1– “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert…”
1 Corinthians 10:13-“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
James 1:2-3“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”
2. Temptation is strategic.
Luke 4:2-3 -“…being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.”
1 Corinthians 10:13-“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
3. Temptation is seductive.
Mark 14:38– “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Romans 8:5– “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
Galatians 2:20– “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
4. Temptation seems like a great bargain.
Luke 4:5-7 -"Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.”
Luke 4:3 -"If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
"Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Psalms 119:18-Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.If we walk in the Spirit, He will help us to see things from a spiritual perspective, and we will never go wrong.
5. Temptation is a part of life.
verse 13: Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.
1 Corinthians 12:10 -Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
II. There are two ways to react to temptation.
1. We can give in.
2. We can be victorious.
How was Jesus vicarious over temptation
He knew the Word.
Hebrews 4:12 -For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 -“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”
Matthew 27:63-66“Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’ 64 So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first. “Take guards and secure it the best you can.” 66 So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.”
Matthew 28:2-4,“2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.”

1 John 1:1-2,“We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. 2 This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.

Romans 8:11…"if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”

SELF-CONTROL

Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”"Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control"Prov 25:28What is self-control ? ’the power to keep ones self in check’Self-control only comes as a result of surrender to the Holy Spirit.
Self-control is not legalism
Brings us into a liberty
Paul links self-control and the Grace of God
Digital disciples must have self-control in our ways, in our words and in our will.
Our ways in life are actions, habits or our conduct.
What comes out of our mouths needs to in line with God’s word.
In line with God’s actions so do our reactions.
Peace means to have things in the right order.
Self-control is more than just self-help.
Romans 7:18: “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good but I cannot carry it out.”
1 Samuel 24:6, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”
Acts 24:25“…That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.”
Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Let’s look at Proverbs to discover the different areas of life that we might struggle
Uncontrolled lust.
Proverbs 6:26: “For the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.”
Uncontrolled spending.
Proverbs 21:20: “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”
Uncontrolled ambition
Proverbs 23:4: “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.”
Uncontrolled drinking.
Proverbs 23:29-30: “Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.”
Uncontrolled anger.
Proverbs 29:11says, “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.”
Titus 2:11-14: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say‘No’to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
Grace redeems us
Grace reforms us
Admit you have a problem with self-control.
Yield to the lordship of Christ.
Galatians 5:16: “Live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Cultivate the disciplines of Bible reading and prayer.
Invest in spiritual friendships.
Ecclesiastes 4:10: “If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!”
Curtail bad influences.
1 Corinthians 15:33: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
Practice good habits.
Job 31:1Job made a covenant with his eyes to not gaze lustfully at a woman.
Welcome gracious correction.
Grace rewards us (13).
No way we can develop self-control on our own.
Galatians 5:23: “Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:16,25: “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Let’s break the fruit of the spirit down in a somewhat unique way:
We have the inward fruit: love, joy, peace
We have the outward fruit: patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness
We have the Godward fruit: faithfulness, self control
Goodness finds its source and definition in God alone.
God's goodness is more than fair.
Grace is favor bestowed when wrath is owed
“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever.”1 Chronicles 16:34
“Taste and see that the Lord is good…”Psalm 34:8
“Enter his gates with Thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and his love enduresforever;…Psalm 100:4-5
“The Lord is good to all;”Psalm145:9
“I am the Good Shepherd.The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.”John 10:11
Goodness Cannot be separated from God.
The tongue has a lot to do with goodness.

To know God’s goodness — you must control the tongue and mouth.
Psalm 34:13.‘keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.14Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.."
Psalms 23:6“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
To be good is a Spiritual FRUIT!
Mt. 19:16 16“Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,“Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied.“There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
Only GOD is good
GOD is the source of all goodness
Difference between BEING good and DOING good: BEING GOOD comes as part of the fruit of God’s Spirit.
Mt. 7:17"Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit."
Romans 12:21“Be not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
2 Tim. 3:16“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Romans 11:22 KJV"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in His goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.”
2 Thess.1:11“11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.”
Rom. 15:14“I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another..”
It has been said…“You’re never more like God than when you're expressing the goodness of God toward others.”

Definition of Peace - the cessation of hostilities and freedom from inner turmoil.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
“The Lord gives strength to his people; theLord blesses his people with peace.”Psalm 29:11 (NIV)
Trusting in God gives perfect peace.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee”(Isaiah 2:3).
The perfect peace is beyond all understanding, beyond all ups and downs, it is irrespective of health, wealth and life situations(Philippians 4:7 Steve paraphrase)
The perfect Peace refers to the Shalom.
“Love the LORD our God with all of our minds”(Matthew 22:37).
“Transformed by the renewing of our minds”(Romans 12:2).
“We must have the mind of Christ”(Philippians 2:5).
“We are not to set our mind on earthly things,but to set our mind on things above”(Colossians 3:2)
Perfect peace belongs to believers:
“Peace I leave with you, my Peace I give unto you”(John 14:27).

2.Then prayer and praise

Shalom is not the absence of conflict
What happened to peace when Adam and Eve sinned?
1. Loss of inner peace. Suddenly guilt and shame filled their hearts and peace was ruined.
2. Destroyed peace with God.
3. Wreaked havoc on peaceful relationships.
4. Broke the harmony and unity between humanity and nature.
“The whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time”(Romans 8:22).
God made a way for peace to be restored.
But now through Christ Jesus you, who were once far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ.So he is our peace.Ephesians 2:13-14(GW)
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”Luke 2:14 (NIV)
Jesus is our peace.
Fruit of the SPIRIT, not the Fruit of the Saints.
1. Peace always Follows Grace.
2. Peace Comes Through Unwavering Prayer.
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

Desiring the flesh means I'm not walking in the spirit

The world don’t call obvious sin…sin
If we don't recognize sin then we don't need a savior and if we don't understand we have sin then we don't need the cross we don't need the empty tomb.
Your sin and my sin that put our savior on a cross

Love is HD versus analog is self-centered despair.
Solution is Love!! SELFLESS Love
I Corinthians 13. “Love is patient, love is kind.It does not envy, it does not boast, it's not proud.It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.It always protects, it always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Opposite of Love?Hate.
The opposite of Love is indifference
1 Corinthians 13 1“If I speak the tongues of men and or of angels, but do not have love, I'm only a resounding gong or a clanging symbol."
Saint Francis of Assisi says of love… “it's in giving that we receive”
Galatians 5 16 says“so I say walk by the spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Walk in the spirit = intentionally engage with God!!

Eyes can't be focused on both things
What we don't do is we don't pull up our sleeves and say no to the flesh we get on our knees and we say yes to the spirit.

Fruit isn't found by trying harder it's by coming closer to the father!

3 Sections of Philippians 2
The the first section is about humility.
The second section section is about a warning against complaining.
The third section is a a greeting to co-laborers and their faith.
Philippians 2: 3-11“Do nothingeverybody say nothing“do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. When things are good embrace humility
Lean in toward humility.
You are replacing God with arrogance and pride.

We get the favor of God through humility!

When things are bad avoid the complain train.

Choices Matter
Mary Hunt said,“Debt keeps you stuck in the trap of using your future to pay for your past.”
A very wise person once said,“Too often we spend money we don’t have for things we don’t need to impress people we don’t even like.”
Someone else said,“When our outgo exceeds our income, then our upkeep will become our downfall.”
Culture tells us that our priorities should be:
1.Lifestyle– where we live, how we dress, what we drive, etc.
2.Debt– then we worry how we will pay for the lifestyle we live.
3.Savings– hopefully we can retire when we are 65
4.Giving– if there is anything left we will give
But the mind and heart of God is much different:
1.Giving– We are created in the image of God – John 3:16

The Pull of the Culture or the Priorities of the Culture =Selfishness
Haggai 1:1-2 say,“In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Hehozadak, the high priest:;This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘ These people say, “The time has not yet come for the Lord’s house to be built”’”.
(V3)“Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?’”
Verse 5 says,“Now this is what the Lord Almighty says:‘Give careful thought to your ways.’”“’You have planted much, but have harvested little.You eat, but never have enough.You drink, but never have your fill.You put on clothes, but are not warm.You earn wages, only to put them in purse with holes in it.’”

God has sent His Living Word

You see, God originally spoke through the prophets

He sent His Son to communicate His message in a way that we can understand.
That is the wonder of Christmas.
That is the wonder of the message.
God’s desire for us:
To know him
To love him
To worship him
God sent His Son to bring His message, not a prophet, a Son.
Hebrews 1:3,"The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Jesus said,“The one who has seen Me has seen the Father"(John 14:9). Jesus declares inJohn 10:30,"I and the Father are one.”

4.People were left spiritually empty
5.Bloody sacrifices thus made the gospel of Christ’s one sacrifice acceptable
6.Roman soldiers carried the Roman ideals and religion to outlying areas.
“For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly”Romans 5:6.

Psalms 145:15 -The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.
Psalms 104:27All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
Deuteronomy 11:14"Then he will send rain on your land at the right time, in the fall and spring, and you will be able to gather your grain, new wine, and oil."(NCV)

Romans 5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
2 Corinthians 6:2"At the right time I heard your prayers. On the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you that the right time is now, and the day of salvation is now."(NCV)

Comparison leads to envy
Envy to jealousy,
If left alone leads to Bitterness and Anger.
Esther 2:21-23 (NIV)“During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. 22 But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. 23 And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were impaled on poles. All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king.”
Chapter 3:1-6“After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. 2 All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
3 Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai,“Why do you disobey the king’s command?” 4 Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore, they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them he was a Jew.
5 When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged. 6 Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes.
Result of Comparison and Envy- Bitterness.
Bitterness is defined as a bad outlook because of past circumstances.
Haman’s root came from an act of Disobedience that occurred long before he was born.
Wallowing- a choice not a mandate
Bitterness = Irrational holding onto past hurts that ends up consuming us
“Truth is reality as seen though God’s eyes”.
Est 7:8-10 (ESV)“And the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine, as Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. And the king said,“Will he even assault the queen in my presence, in my own house?”
As the word left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman's face. Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance of the king, said,“Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman's house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said,“Hang him on that.” (10) So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.”
Mat 6:14-15 (NIV)“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
