Vintage V6 Icon
Vintage V6 Icon. The Vintage V6 Icon comes with Wilkinson tuners with staggered tuning pegs so that a string tree isn't required. It has a Wilkinson bridge with staggered holes drilled through the tremelo block to keep everything in tune. The Vintage V6 Icon also has a Graphtech nut, Rosewood fretboard and a 10" radius.
The pickups on this Vintage V6 Icon are Wilkinson and have Alnico V magnets. They sound nice and clear.

Are these the best strat pickups?
Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups - the nicest sounding single coils I've ever heard? I recently bought a Fender Player Stratocaster FSR which came with the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups

Guitar nut materials tone test
Does guitar nut material affect your tone? I compare a brass nut, plastic nut, bone nut and tusq nut to see which gives the best tone. In fairness, your guitar nut tone seems to be greatly increased if you don't use a plastic nut and instead opt for brass, bone or tusq.
What was unexpected is just how much additional sustain is achieved from having a brass nut, although it could be argued that as soon as you fret a string, this s removed from the system so this is somewhat irrelevant.
Surprisingly, a brass guitar nut seems to have more done. So if you're thinking "do brass nuts have better tone" then yes, a little. Well, when compared to a platic nut anyway.
Do bone nuts have more tone? compared to a plastic nut, yes. There are also substitutes for bone which are a vegan alternative such as tusq. A tusq nut sounds just as good as a bone nut so if you're wondering what sounds best, tusq or bone, they're similar enough to not worry. Tusq vs bone can be solved by choosing whatever you can get hold of the easiest, preferably pre-slotted and cut to size.
In summary, a plastic guitar nut sounds the worst but a brass guitar nut, bone guitar nut or tusq guitar nut sounds better, so choose a brass nut, bone nut or tusq nut over a plastic nut for tonal happiness.
What's the best guitar nut? Which guitar nut has the best tone? these can be answered within this video. Listen and let me know what you think. Personally I think Tusq nuts are best because I don't like the look of a brass nut and a tusq nut is easy to buy pre-slotted to all specs.
So which guitar nut is best? or What is the best nut? All of them. Just not plastic. Plastic guitar nuts seem to ruin the tone. And sustain - but that's another video...

Are these the best P90 pickups?
Are these the best P90 pickups? This is the Tonerider Vintage P90 neck pickup and the Tonerider Hot P90 bridge pickup. These are about £40 each or £80 for the set which is under half the price of a similar spec Seymour Duncan.
What we've noticed with onerider pickups is that they are properly made, using nickel components and they don't skimp on the copper so you get a great sounding set of pickups for a great price

2 single coils in a humbucker slot
2 single coils in a humbucker slot. I love the look of humbuckers but in the neck position I prefer the sound of single coils. I'm also nort a fan of a split humbucker so I came up with a solution. I got a couple of cheap single coils from amazon and screwed them to a nickel humbucker plate. Make sure no part of the pickup grounds out on the humbucker base plate then you're good to fit it.
For the second design I contacted Bareknuckle pickups and had them make a Bareknuckle Apache single coil pickup and a Bareknuckle '63 Veneer Board single coil pickup. They put these on a jaguar style bobbin and Ithen screwed these to a humbucker base plate.
Wiring is the same as an HSS strat so it's a 5 way switch. This is quite possible the best mod I've ever done

Are these the best PAF humbuckers?
Are these the best PAF humbuckers? Classic tone, sensible price. If you want classic tone at a sensible price then you should seriously consider the Tonerider Alnico II classics PAF humbucker set. These PAF humbuckers have alnico II magnets, 7.5k ohms in the nek, 8.3k ohms in the bridge and only cost £90!
A vintage PAF is generally between 7.5k and 9k ohms and probably uses an Alnico II or Alnico V magnet, however studies into these shows they also frequently used Alico III and Alnico IV magnets.
We shot these Tonerider PAF humbuckers out against the Gibson Burstbucker 1 and 2 set which is stock in a Gibson Les Paul standard and what I consider my favourite humbuckers, Monty's Guitars Full Monty in the bridge and Monty's Guitars Retro Wind in the neck.
These budget PAF humbuckers really shone when playing individual notes, so if you're looking for the best budget PAF or a Gibson PAF alternative then these are probably the best option.

Fender Player Telecaster
A review of my Fender Player Telecaster. This one has single coils.
This Fener Player Telecaster comes in polar white with an alder body which has a gloss finish. The neck is maple with a C shape profile and 9.5" radius however the frets on this Player Telecaster are a little sharp and could really do with some work.
Personally I love string-through body bridges on a Telecaster along with the 6 individual bridge saddles - to me, these are far easier to intonate compared to Fender Telecasters with just 3 bridge saddles.
One huge plus that the Fender Player Telecaster has over the Squier Telecaster range is that is has 22 frets rather than the 21 frets that you find on a Squier Telecaster.
Obviously with a Fender Telecaster you get the Fender on the headstock, the skunk stripe on the back of the neck and the walnut plug on the headstock. You also get the Fender "F" stamped onto the neck plate.
The Telecaster control plate has the volume knob so close to the pickup selector switch that very often, you knock the volume when changing pickups. This mod will fix that issue.
Other great mods for your Telecaster include a 4-way switch or a 5-way switch: These add additional functionality to your Telecaster in the form of a series setting - so the pickups work together like a humbucker. And an out-of-phase setting - can be handy in certain situations. Here's videos on those mods:
4 way Telecaster switch mod : https://youtu.be/LV74kjmgTZw
5 way Telecaster switch mod : https://youtu.be/IJWswoDYXR0
On top of that, other great upgrades for your Telecaster include changing the standard steel bridge saddles to brass ones, and dressing the end of the frets - you may have noticed that Fender Player Telecasters come with scratchy or rough fret ends. Fixing this greatly improves playability.

I found the best Telecaster Pickup!
Is this the best Telecaster Pickup? I've been on the hunt for the best Telecaster pickups for a while now. I did settle on the Fender Custom Shop Nocaster 51 set but after a while I didn't really get on with the neck.
Prior to this I quite like the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound but only on the taped setting. I also like the Seymour Duncan hot Telecaster pickup set.
Then I spoke to Pete Honore, aka Danish Pete to find out what he had in his Fender Telecaster. In the Andertons video they say Pete's Telecaster has a Nocaster 51 in the neck an a Twisted Telecaster pickup in the bridge but Pete confirmed that it's actually the other way around, i.e. a Nocaster 51 Telecaster pickup in the bridge and a Fender Custom Shop Twisted Telecaster pickup in the neck.
Pete then went on to say that what he was currently using in his infamous Purple Telecaster was his signature Danish Pete DP 51 set from Montys Guitars. So I order a Montys DP51 neck pickup and compared that to my Fender Custom Shop Nocatsre 51 neck pickup. I definitely preferred the DP51 pickup over the Nocaster 51. I also compared the DP51 neck pickup to a stratocaster neck pickup because Montys website says that as Pete's Twisted Telecaster pickup has a taller than standard bobbin, it should sound more stratty. Montys have emulated this taller bobbin on their DP51 neck pickup and it does sound stratty
The Montys DP51 based on the pickups from the infamous Danish Pete purple Telecaster. Pete Honore has a set of the Montys DP51 pickups in his purple Fender Telecaster

The 5 best Squier Strat mods
The 5 best Squier Strat mods. If you have a Squier Stratocaster or a cheap S-type guitar and want to know the best Squier Strat mods, you've come to the right place.
Starting cheap and easy, try a reble bleed mod - honestly the best mod for any guitar and it's £2.50.
A Tusq nut. They have a nice tone and cost around £10.
Brass bridge saddles would be another great easy upgrade.
Obviously a good set of pickups will make the biggest difference to tone. You could opt for a Seymour Duncan set or something similar a cheaper choice which is just as good would be Tone Rider.
A good set of tuners will make your life so much easier. A set of Wilkinson EZ Lok tuners cost £22 and are a monumental Strat upgrade.
It's not an easy strat mod but upgrading to a good Wilkinson bridge makes all the difference. Just make sure you have a full thickness body or it won't fit.
A nice asthetic upgrade is to spray the headstock to match the body colour. Just tape off the rest of the guitar and use a translucent spray.
One amazing thing to use on darker fretboard such as Rosewood, Pau Ferro or Laurel would be Monty's instrument food. It's around £16 and just brings your fretboard to life. I use this on every guitar and it's good to reapply when you change strings to keep it looking great - https://www.montysguitars.com/products/montys-instrument-food-guitar-wax

Chapman ML1 modern Baritone
Chapman ML1 modern Baritone. This is the Chapman ML1 Baritone, not a Chapman ML1 Pro but a Chapman ML1 Standard! It does come with the Seymour Duncan Pegasus Sentient set, which makes it stand out.
The poplar burl veneer looks incredible, the satin neck feels wondeful and the Ebony fretboard is just sexy. 18:1 ratio tuners, Chapman Hardware, 24 frets, what more could you want?
I absolutely love this Chapman. Compared to other baritones I've previously owned, I always eneded up getting rid of them but this one is a keeper!
