As you likely know, a deep discount can serve as a powerful draw for old and new customers alike. Consumers love a "deal" - they love it when they can get more for less. They especially love with they can get the same product for less than others have paid for it, or less than other companies are offering it for. So, a lot of Business Owners rely on the power of discounting to get people into their business, and to convert customers. They use discounts in their headlines, powerful offers,
promotions and guarantees.

While there is nothing wrong with this, I find that it is a lazy strategy. Instead of creating an offer specific for a target market, they slash some of their prices and wait for the drove of customers to come flying through the door. And the problem with that is the bottom line. Discounting is often an ineffective strategy because it offers too little - if any - return on investment. It also draws discount customers who many never actually pay full price - an unprofitable customer.

Discounting can also impact your business beyond the price of the product itself. There are greater potential consequences that you may not be aware of. Here's how discounting can affect your business in an adverse way:
* * * Discounting makes you less money than you think.
* * * Discounting attracts the wrong customers.
* * * Discounting affects the way your customers see your business.
* * * Discounting can create a price war.
* * * Discounting eats into your profit margins.
* * * Discounting can cause customers to wait for reduced prices
I usually advise my clients to consider all other options before diving into a discount strategy. Often, there are other more profitable ways to achieve the same objectives. Discounting works because customers feel they are getting more value for less money. However, there are many ways to increase the value/price ratio of a product without decreasing its price, such as product/service widgets and bonus offers.

There are tons of ways to Market your business online, with Paid Advertising in the search engines and on posting on Social Media platforms. But there’s a problem with these types of Marketing, and it’s one that you won’t face when you decide to build an email list instead. That problem is the fact that when advertising on search engines and Social Media, the Business Owner doesn’t own those platforms.
When you don’t own the platform you’re Marketing on, you may not always have access to it. And you certainly have limited control over it. Those other platforms will tell you what you can write, what you can advertise, and how you can do it. And, if they were to shut down tomorrow, there would be very little recourse. In fact, they don’t even have to shut down in order to take away your control. They just need to change their privacy or user settings. That could be enough to drastically hamper your Marketing efforts.

But that’s not how it is with Email Marketing. While you may not own your own server with your own email service on it, there’s a much better chance that it’s going to be there the next time you log on. With email services, you can heavily promote your company, send multiple emails within a week (although be careful, you don’t want to get marked as spam by customers, either), and know that every time you open up your email, it’s going to be ready to perform for you. Which means that you can be there to give your customers what they’re looking for ... (information & education) ...

When You Have Permission, You Have Power
You’ve likely heard people complain about how much advertising is directed to them every day. Whether it’s in your personal life or in your business, people don’t like to be surrounded by Marketing all the time. That’s not to say they don’t like to hear about deals and promotions, just that they don’t want to be listening to it all the time. And unfortunately when they go online, there’s no escape from it. It’s everywhere.
But when you choose to use Email Marketing, you remove that obstacle and get an audience that’s much more willing to listen to your message. That’s great news for Business Owners that are never sure whether or not their Marketing message is getting through. With Email Marketing, that message is definitely hitting home and when it does, they’ll feel good about it. And there’s a good chance that your bottom line is going to improve because of it.
So, with Database managing, you can segment or categorize your lists, and "DRIP" to them regularly, until they unsubscribe, buy, or die ... That's a popular phrase ... :)

There are a few variations of what the Buyer’s Journey looks like, but for the purpose of this description, I will break the Buyer’s Journey into three main stages:
• Awareness
• Consideration
• Decision
There are a great many variations to the types of content you can use for each of the Buyer’s Journey stages. What I teach is tried-and-true content types that have proven to be effective for countless brands around the world.
You have the ability to create video content for the consideration and decision stages as well. It’s up to you to determine the best types of content for your brand and your ideal buyer. Remember, it doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing. You need to be focusing on creating content for your ideal customers. Once you’ve made initial contact with a prospect, creating an email series to nurture the relationship is the logical next step. Start with a Compelling Offer to welcome them into the fold. From there, create an email series that’s set to "trigger" based on certain actions the prospect takes.
By personalizing the content they receive, you go a long way to building up their trust in your business. Share the most useful content and tools from your business and expertise. Once
you’ve proven your value over the course of several emails, follow up with a call to action. If they take you up on the offer, you know that they’re a hot lead and worthy of additional time and attention.
And THAT, is the "Funnel" ...

As for revenue, what does it take to produce more revenue?
First, once you generate leads and convert those leads into clients, those clients will be paying you a specific value for what you sell. So sale value is the first component in the revenue equation. But it doesn’t stop there.
You have expenses to pay and those expenses come directly out of that revenue you just generated, so the next revenue component to consider is your margin. How MUCH of that revenue do you actually get to put into your pocket? But you’re still not done. If your client only buys from you one time, you’re right back where you started. Now you need to generate a new batch of leads and convert them into clients.
What if instead you could compel your clients to increase the number of transactions they complete with you year after year? NOW you have something to build upon. Here’s the bottom line.
There are five critical steps that every Small Business Owner MUST address in order to attract new clients and generate more revenue … Leads, Conversions, Average Sale Value, Number of Transactions and Profit Margins. Business blogs can be created through any hosting service and connected to your own website. You can also create a blog on your own website. Focus on creating interesting, relevant content, and try to avoid talking about your product or service all the time. If your content is genuine and you post regularly, people will link to it and drive traffic to your site as well as boost your search engine ranking.
Social Networking Sites drive awareness and provide likes to your site.
Popular Social Networking Communities include Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter (and lately, many, many more). Facebook allows businesses to create their own pages, and then individuals with profiles can then become "fans". Content you post to your business' Facebook page will appear in all your fans news feeds, and they will be able to receive instant updates.
Twitter is a fairly simple network that connects people and allows you to post and update your status. You can follow others status updates, and they can follow yours. Your "ranking" or popularity is determined based on the number of people who "follow" your "tweets" and the number of people you follow.
LinkedIn is a bit more business-like, but Marketing still has to be done correctly, or you will be a nuisance. And I mean, a REAL nuisance! The direct sales approaches I get there daily are pathetic. No relationship building, no comments about who and what I am, nothing about why they are trying to connect with me, just pathetic.
Businesses are getting creative with how they use these services though. As with Blogs, Social Networking is not about promoting your business every chance you get. It is about being part of a genuine community, informing and educating your audience, and listening and participating in an honest way that contributes to everyone who is a part of it. If you hog the conversation, it will hurt your reputation. If you sell, sell, sell, NOBODY will pay you any attention.

As for revenue, what does it take to produce more revenue?
First, once you generate leads and convert those leads into clients, those clients will be paying you a specific value for what you sell. So, sale value is the first component in the revenue equation. But it doesn’t stop there. You have expenses to pay and those expenses come directly out of that revenue you just generated, so the next revenue component to consider is your margin. How MUCH of that revenue do you actually get to put into your pocket? But you’re still not done. If your client only buys from you one time, you’re right back where you started. Now you need to generate a new batch of leads and convert them into clients.
What if instead you could compel your clients to increase the number of transactions they complete with you year after year? NOW you have something to build upon.
Here’s the bottom line.
There are 5 critical steps that every Small Business Owner MUST address in order to attract new clients and generate more revenue … leads, conversions, average sale value, number of transactions and profit margins.
For you to double your profits and create exponential growth, you must start with a baseline. That
means you must know your current numbers in each of these critical areas. So, you first need to work out exactly where your numbers are right now.
