1955, FAMILY AFFAIR, BELL SYSTEMS
Bell Telephone Systems produced this film in an effort to get more folks in 1955 to have more telephone extensions throughout homes and business's. The film follows the Reilly family as they go thru life with a single telephone in each house. Multiple situations are presented that give good reason for multiple phone extensions. The father is played by J. Pat O'Malley who is a familiar face to those that recollect the tv sitcoms of the 50s, 60,s and 70,s. The Twilight Zone, The Untouchable's and My Favorite Martian fans will definitely recognize him. I did not mention the other well known movie star in the film. Let it be a surprise and test to see how many actually get that far.

1944, VOODOO MAN with Bella Lugosi, John Carradine & George Zucco
This 1944 horror movie is pretty entertaining. I did enjoy it.
In this movie Dr. Richard Marlowe played by Bella Lugosi with help from his cohorts {George Zucco & John Carradine} uses a combination of voodoo rite and hypnotic suggestion, attempting to revive his beautiful, but long-dead, wife, by transferring the life essences of several hapless young girls he has kidnapped and imprisoned in the dungeon beneath his mansion. There are some really great Flying A gas station scenes in this film. His mad scientist apparatus is pretty cool also and when you get into the dungeon the mid-evil look to it does the film justice. The perpetrators use many cool ideas for concealing their location including a Batman style entrance from the man road hidden by bushes and a secret tunnel entrance.
Also in this film are, Wanda McKay,Louise Currie,Tod Andrews & Ellen Hall

An explanation of the same episode with different introductions
from Wikipedia:
During the latter years of the series, some new episodes were still being made while older episodes were already in syndication. In some markets, new episodes could even be running in competition with older ones. To make it easier for viewers to distinguish between old and new, some blocks of syndicated "Death Valley Days" episodes were shown under other series names and with different hosts. This was common practice at the time among syndicated series because it was easy to reshoot the hosting portions of an episode without affecting the main content. Alternate series titles and their respective hosts included Frontier Adventure (Dale Robertson), The Pioneers (Will Rogers, Jr.), Trails West (Ray Milland), Western Star Theater (Rory Calhoun), and Call of the West (John Payne). The last title was also often applied to the series' memorable, haunting theme music.

1964, TELECINE, PT1, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert series, "WHAT IS AMERICAN MUSIC".
Leonard Bernstein discusses and analyzes nature and development of American concert music, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra performs pieces illustrating the analysis. Aaron Copeland is a guest conductor.
Part one
What makes American music sound American? The orchestra plays a part of “An American in Paris” By George Gershwin. This music is unmistakably American; but why does it sound American?
If we consider the national music of other countries, we find that each country music there’s a stamp of individuality, based largely upon it’s folk origins. An African drumbeat, an Arab chant, a Polish mazurka, and Italian tarantella, an Irish reel, each has the character of the folk music of its country. Symphonic music of Spain, Hungary and Russia is played to illustrate how composers use their native folk music in their symphonic works. The Russian folk song” The Little Birch Tree” for example, is used by Tchaikovsky in his fourth symphony. The people of these countries know their folk music; but what is American folk music? Our people come from so many different countries that it is difficult to define American folk music. Is it Indian? About 75 years ago our composers began to write music. This period may be called kindergarten of American composition. Differed little from European music of the same period. The orchestra plays an overture by George W. Chadwick.
Good music, but it sounds like Brahms. Chadwick studied in Leipzig in Munich In 1877 to 1879. Around 1900, Dvorak wrote his “Symphony from the New World”To point out that there was an American spirit in Indian and Negro themes which he said inspired is melodies. The music is still essentially European.
American music,s grammar school period was begun by Edward McDowell, Who wrote an “American Suite”, and Henry F. Gilbert with his “Bamboula”. They and many others used American themes in titles, but wrote in the European style. Music of these composers is played by the orchestra. In the 1920s we entered our high school period With the incorporation of jazz into concert music. The orchestra plays Aaron Copeland’s “Music for the Theater”.

Part 2
With George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” 1924 we had developed music that everybody recognized as really American.
It was not until the 1930s that we entered what may be called the college period in American music, When composers use the rhythm and style of jazz to write music that was American without being really jazz. An organ piece by Roger Sessions illustrates this.
What then makes American music? The elements are defined as;
A, Syncopation, rhythms characterized by strong accents off the beat.
B, Youth and vitality, illustrated by the performance of William Shuman’s “American Festival Overture”.
C, pioneer energy. The orchestra plays Roy Harris Third symphony”.
D, Loneliness of the Prairie. Copeland’s “Quiet Night on the Prairie” from “Billy the Kid” is played.
E, Sentimentality, derived from hymn singing, as in Virgil Thomson’s “The Mother Of Us All”.
F, Crooning sentimentality, taken from popular ballads, as in Randall Thompson’s Second Symphony”.
There are many sides of our music as there are section and speech differences in the different parts of our country, our folk music is the richest in the world.
The program is summarized by the performance of Aaron Copeland’s Third Symphony, “Last Movement”, conducted by the composer. This piece in bodies all elements of the analysis listed above.
