Driving up the mountain to Phillipskop Mountain Reserve! S1 – Ep 42
Driving on the road from Vloedbos Holiday Resort delivered real beauty. The drive over the Akkedisberg Pass was great and then we drove up the mountain to Phillipskop Mountain Reserve. I would love to do the hiking trails there one day, especially the trail which leads to the waterfall. The chalets were built so as to take nature into consideration and so they blend into the mountainside, which was amazing to see. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #phillipskopmountainreserve

Discovering another holiday resort, Vloedbos! S1 – Ep 41
This is the reason we love doing what we do! We left DeSkaap and started our journey looking for places on gravel roads which were interesting and special. We had some beautiful dirt roads we travelled on which is always a bonus. I saw a camping site on Google Maps along the route we were travelling on and decided to take a look. Spectacular! Vloedbos Holiday Resort was an amazing discovery and a huge surprise! Never heard of it before, but guaranteed we will visit it again and make sure we spend a few days. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #vloedbos

Checking in at Napier before DeSkaap! S1 – Ep 40
The rural village of Napier was an interesting checkpoint before we reached our final destination for the day which was DeSkaap. The church in Napier is really a majestic sight as it stands so impressively in the center of the village. What a wonderful place! DeSkaap is on a working farm just outside Napier. We love farmstays, they make our evenings so much more relaxing. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #agulhas

Excited to travel through Elim and Baardskeerdersbos! S1 – Ep 39
I didn’t expect us to find quite a few long stretches of gravel road to travel on to reach Elim and Baardskeerdersbos. But I am super excited and happy to report that we did! An added bonus was the short trip through Baardskeerdersbos also known as B-bos. We didn't plan it, but have always heard the name and thought it is the perfect time to drive through. Enjoy! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #elim

From Die Dam to Castle Beach at Pearly Beach! S1 – Ep 38
The wind was blowing for days, but we had to accept it and carry on! The road from Die Dam to Pearly Beach was without incident or sighting, but the highlight was arriving at Castle Beach and seeing how beautiful it is. Not much gravel road was travelled on, but at least there was some small sections we could do, which always makes us happy! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #pearlybeach

The road from L’Agulhas to Die Dam Holiday Resort! S1 – Ep 37
We had quite a few obstacles on the road from L'Agulhas to Die Dam Holiday Resort because of the amount of rain which had fallen the previous week. But then again, we did see some beautiful places and wildlife. Strandveld Vineyards was a real surprise in the middle of nowhere and is known as the southernmost vineyard in Africa. I would've loved to have gone onto the beach at Die Dam Holiday Resort, but unfortunately the wind was just too strong when we arrived there. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #agulhas

Standing on the Southernmost point of Africa! S1 – Ep 36
When our fish-and-chips were finished in Struisbaai, we made our way to the southernmost point of Africa which is on the outskirts of the town of L’Agulhas. We saw the picturesque Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, which is located within the borders of the Agulhas National Park. It was quite surreal standing on the southernmost point of Africa while looking at the map of the vast continent close by. Afterwards, we went to see the shipwreck of the Meisho Maru No. 38, a Japanese fishing vessel. From there, we went to Suiderstrand and went into a part of the National Park we later realised we were probably not allowed to, but at least we got out safe and back to our accommodation at The Gift in L’Agulhas. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #agulhas

From Andrews Field to JJ’s Takeaway in Struisbaai! S1 – Ep 35
On our way from De Mond Nature Reserve we saw two heron flying in front of us for a while and landing in the road. Andrews Field Nature Reserve turned out to be Tsaba Tsaba Nature Reserve and there was not much happening there. I suppose that is to be expected from time to time. But we discovered Earth on our way to Struisbaai, very interesting place to visit for a meal and to browse around. JJ’s Takeaway turned out to be a huge success at the Struisbaai Harbour. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #struisbaai

The gravel road to De Mond Nature Reserve! S1 – Ep 34
After the crazy night of wind and rain at the campsite in Arniston / Waenhuiskrans, we set off to L’Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa. Our first stop on this route was on the gravel road to De Mond Nature Reserve. It was a beautiful road to travel. We saw Duiker which are small antelope and which amazingly pair for life, Blue Cranes which are really large and impressive birds, massive stud Bulls at a cattle embryo transfer centre and of course our trusty Falcons on the fence posts as we drive by and which we see on nearly every road. We were very disappointed when we were not allowed in at De Mond Nature Reserve with our vehicle. I can just imagine how beautiful it must be there. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica

Exploring the Bredasdorp and Arniston area! S1 - Ep 33
When we started exploring the Bredasdorp and Arniston area, little did we know that we would find so much to see. Like the beautiful church in Bredasdorp which was built in 1911, the very interesting Shipwreck Museum and not to mention driving up the very badly-maintained and steep road at the Heuningberg Nature Reserve. We also saw the stunning location of the Arniston Hotel, the Arniston Harbour which was established in 1936 and of course the beautiful Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve. We also found it super interesting that Arniston / Waenhuiskrans is the only town in South Africa which has two official names. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica

Heading for Arniston because our plans changed! S1 – Ep 32
Travelling back-and-forth on the Malgas Pont was really fun and I can’t believe they allowed us to do that. Unfortunately our plans changed and we headed for Arniston because the place we were going to camp at, was not what we were looking for. We camped in Arniston for two nights, even though we knew it was going to rain. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #southafrica #travelsouthafrica #travelongravel

The new Malgas Pont is operational! S1 – Ep 31
The sighting of two White Storks was a bonus. It always surprises me to see how big they are, yet so graceful when they take off. They don’t even have to run before take-off, they just lift off. Stopping off at the Breede River Trading Post was a much-needed pitstop. Then the two of us debating the name Malgas or Malagas but I must say arriving in Malgas (formerly known as Malagas) was exciting, because the new Malgas Pont is operational. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #southafrica #travelsouthafrica #travelongravel

Interesting gravel road along the Breede River! S1 – Ep 30
This was a really interesting gravel road along the Breede River. We tried our best to follow the river as far as we could. We saw loads of sheep, falcons and heron along the way. One of the beautiful campsites was Up the Creek music festival site on the banks of the Breede River. Sad that they could not have the festival in 2021 because of COVID–19. It is the second longest-running outdoor music festival in South Africa. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

Driving through Bontebok National Park! S1 – Ep 28
We were very lucky that the rain stopped long enough to allow me to pitch the tent and go explore. Red Hartebeest, Bontebok, Spotted Thick-knee and a Toktokkie Beetle is what we saw while driving through Bontebok National Park. The viewpoint at the top of the hill was awesome where we could see the campsite and the route we were going to travel. This park is the smallest National Park in South Africa, but well worth visiting. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

Arrived at Bontebok National Park! S1 – Ep 27
After leaving Swellendam we arrived at Bontebok National Park. We always have a competition to see who sees the first animal and I always lose. We saw Red Hartebeest and a Tortoise. The Bontebok were very far away. It was raining the whole time while travelling through the park to reach our campsite. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

From a Hamerkop to a grand old church! S1 – Ep 26
The rain continued on and off while we were heading to Swellendam. We saw so many different and interesting things in this episode, from a Hamerkop to a grand old church. There was even a quaint cottage overlooking a beautiful lake and so much birdlife. Spotting an abandoned church amongst the trees in the middle of nowhere was an interesting sight. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

Travelling on gravel in the rain! S1 – Ep 25
We were leaving the pecan nut and dairy farm and made our way to the Bontebok National Park which is near Swellendam. In this episode, we tried to find the Leopard Trail cottage, but that did not go as planned. We did find many other interesting and beautiful things though while travelling on gravel in the rain. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

A day on a Pecan Nut and Dairy farm! S1 – Ep 24 Part 3 of 3
I never thought a day on a pecan nut and dairy farm would be this interesting. There was a pecan nut tree which was planted by the farmer's father 70 years ago and is still bearing fruit. Then spending time with Anne in the milking shed was an awesome experience, especially seeing how fast the milking machines milk the cows nowadays. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

The road we took was closed! S1 – Ep 24 Part 2 of 3
We travelled on some awesome gravel roads which took us over rivers and past an old abandoned church which we thought would look great if renovated. Then we went through Bonnievale and saw this town from a different approach road. Me being me, I thought I would take a different gravel road. It turned out the road we took was closed and we had to turn back. No harm done though, we finally arrived at Pecan Nut Farmstay, also known as Sanddrift. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

Sad to leave our little Lakehouse! S1 – Ep 24 Part 1 of 3
In this episode, we were so sad to leave our little lakehouse. We were cheered up by the brightness of the Karoo Daisy and stopped by just to see what it looked like. The owners did an awesome job converting the old church into a restaurant. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

Spending the night at Die Damhuis! S1 – Ep 23 Part 2 of 2
So we finally arrived and were going to be spending the night at Die Damhuis. What an extraordinary place! The wooden house was built on the water, overlooking the lake and all the birdlife. There were Egyptian Geese with seven ducklings and a pair of Red-knobbed Coots with two chicks which made our stay really amazing. We had a wonderful time and we're so happy to share it with you. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #dustbugstravel

The view from Tradouw Pass was totally unexpected and that stunning cave in the side of the mountain which is a picnic spot was the cherry on top. This pass is a must visit.
