What does an air conditioner and the ocean have in common? The answer to this question has to do with the further survival of humankind! The ocean is a whole organism that performs many important functions supporting life on Earth. One of the key tasks of the ocean is to cool the planet’s interior. Like a huge air conditioner, it removes internal heat through the atmosphere, helping to maintain the stability of our planet. The ocean performs heat transfer and cooling functions, similar to cold water in nuclear reactors. The ocean plays a particularly important role during peak loads on the planet every 12,000 years, when additional energy from outer space heats the Earth’s interior, increasing seismic and volcanic activity. During such periods, the ocean has to cope with an even greater workload. Why do we currently observe rapidly increasing problems? The reason is ocean pollution. Oil and plastics decompose into microparticles and change the chemical composition of oceanic water, disrupting its thermal conductivity and heat capacity. Now, instead of releasing excess heat from the ocean into space, the atmosphere accumulates it and thus increases the greenhouse effect. This results in the ocean heating from both above and below, weakening its protective function. Signs of the ocean dying are already obvious: mass death of plankton, destruction of coral reefs, and abnormal water heating. We are making the situation even worse by filling the ocean with microplastics and disrupting its climatic regulation. Do we have a chance to go through this? “Ways of Resolving Climate Crisis” presentation took place in Vienna on April 24, 2024. The past week has shown how serious the problem of heavy rainfalls has become. Countries on different continents simultaneously suffered from abnormal floods. ➡️ Strong Storms in Europe On May 2, several countries in Europe were hit by storms with thunderstorms and heavy rains. In Germany, storms caused significant damage to some parts of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. After a strong thunderstorm, the Klingbach River overflowed, flooding several settlements. The Netherlands also suffered from the storms that day. Strong thunderstorms with downpours passed over the province of Limburg. The cities of Venlo and Heerlen were particularly affected. ➡️ Record Flooding in China On May 4, heavy rains poured down on several cities in Guangdong province in southern China, including Zhongshan and Zhuhai. The province issued 58 flood warnings, five of which were red, indicating the most serious level of warning. ➡️ Catastrophic Floods in Kenya Since March, rains have not stopped in Kenya, causing massive floods and landslides. Floods and landslides have claimed 228 lives, with 164 people missing. Unfortunately, there are no signs of the crisis easing, as meteorologists predict such weather will continue into May. ➡️ Destructive Tornado in the USA On the evening of May 6, another round of deadly severe weather hit the central part of the USA. Anomalous rains and severe floods have already affected 401 out of 497 municipalities. The state government has declared a state of emergency. At least 95 people have fallen victim to the climate tragedy, and over 130 are still missing. The number of flood victims is approaching 1.5 million people, with more than 200,000 left homeless. ❗ The extreme rise in temperatures and the evaporation of huge volumes of water lead to increased storm activity. As a result, there is an increase in the number of thunderstorms, precipitation, and strong winds. This poses a serious danger and leads to even greater destruction, losses, and loss of human lives. Steve Slepcevic, the disaster response coordinator, shared a list of critically important infrastructure facilities that are prioritized during disaster relief efforts by their company. ➡️ POWERFUL TORNADO IN THE USA On April 26, a powerful tornado outbreak struck the USA, leaving behind destruction and more than a dozen injured. The Storm Prediction Center received at least 78 tornado reports: 37 in Iowa, 29 in Nebraska, 5 in Kansas, 4 in Missouri, and 3 in Texas. Numerous cases of severe hail and extreme winds were also reported. These events were part of a severe weather system spanning over 60 million Americans. ➡️ TORNADO IN GUANGZHOU, CHINA On April 27, a strong tornado swept through Guangzhou, one of China's major economic centers, causing extensive damage and human casualties. The tornado hit the city around 3:00 pm in the Baiyun district and traveled approximately one kilometer in less than four minutes. The giant funnel crushed everything in its path, causing fires, destroying buildings, and hurling debris hundreds of meters away. A maximum wind gust of 20.6 meters per second was recorded. The disaster resulted in 5 fatalities and 33 injuries. ➡️ ANOMALOUS FLOODING IN TANZANIA Ongoing anomalous downpours in Tanzania triggered massive flooding, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives. Officially, 155 people died from the floods, with at least 236 injured and over 200,000 affected. The catastrophic event also caused damage to crops and infrastructure, with bridges, roads, and over 10,000 houses affected. Thousands of people living in valleys were displaced from the Rufiji River basin, and landslides occurred in Arusha and Manyara, damaging homes and roads. ➡️ DEADLY TORNADO IN OKLAHOMA On Sunday, April 28, a destructive outbreak of severe weather swept through Oklahoma. Tornadoes led to the deaths of four people in the state, with at least 100 others injured. Over 40,000 people were left without electricity. The deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma were part of a multi-day severe weather event affecting over 60 million Americans from Texas to Iowa. In late April, within just three days, over 160 tornadoes ranging from EF-0 to EF-4 occurred, resulting in 5 deaths, over 100 injuries, and thousands displaced. ➡️ STRING OF CATASTROPHES IN INDIA India is experiencing ongoing climate-related catastrophes. Five people died and several were injured due to landslides and floods in Jammu and Kashmir. Four days of continuous rainfall triggered severe flooding and numerous landslides in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir. In Sonmarg, an avalanche occurred due to heavy rain and snowfall. ➡️ VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN INDONESIA Mount Ruang in North Sulawesi province, Indonesia, resumed eruptions for the second time in the last 2 weeks. On Tuesday, April 30, the volcano erupted three times, ejecting lava and ash to a height of over three miles. Authorities ordered the evacuation of 12,000 local residents. Nearly 700 earthquakes of various types (shallow and deep volcanic, local tectonic, etc.) were recorded in the vicinity of the volcano. ➡️ MASSIVE FLOODING IN BRAZIL Severe flooding in Brazil submerged over 150 cities. Around ten thousand people were forced to evacuate their homes. Authorities deployed 8 aircraft and around 600 military personnel to aid the affected. In some areas, flooding was so severe that helicopters couldn't land. Participants in the Creative Society Project attended the Disasters EXPO USA in Maimi, Florida. At this event, they had a chance to speak to Joe Chaisson, CEO of Coastal Pump & Equipment from Louisiana. Mr. Chaisson presented special equipment designed to eliminate the consequences of floods. In March 2024, participants of the Creative Society Project attended the Disasters EXPO USA in Florida, Miami. This event showcased many different companies that are involved in disaster management. Bryon Hodges, President of WindTripper Corporation was also present at the Expo. WindTripper Corp. has developed a technology that allows buildings to maintain roofs during hurricanes and strong winds. During the interview, Bryon Hodges shared his excitement about attending the event. He said that events like this provide a great opportunity to learn about the latest technologies from around the world. Mr. Hodges is convinced that a multidisciplinary approach is needed to solve a particular issue. He believes that it is through the unification of people that breakthrough ideas emerge and the most incredible solutions are found. Most times I have not learned, but merely googled it. Each of us carries a huge bag of opinions in our heads, all born from the small lazy act of "I googled it". I'm not saying the internet is bad. I'm talking about something else entirely, the fact that - as a rule - we don't know the truth because we just googled and ate a dish of information prepared for us, someone else's opinion. We eat someone else's opinion, it is digested and becomes ours. And for some reason, no one thinks about it. One country feeds us one thing, the other the opposite, and so on. And it would be all right, however, at the end of such a diet, the people in different countries think that they know better than others. And everything might seem all right, however with such a diet, not only nobody knows the truth, but we also argue with each other, defending the positions of lies. Isn't that absurd?
