Best Friends Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Hard At Work On Their Untitled Nike Film 22-11-2022
Best Friends Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Hard At Work On Their Untitled Nike Film 22-11-2022
Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming to launch a film production company with a view toward offering content creators more financial upside for commercially successful projects.
The studio's first project, directed by Affleck and starring Damon, is a feature film about the Air Jordan brand and is slated for release in 2023. The company, called Artists Equity, eventually plans to release at least five projects per year.
"Artists Equity was conceived from Matt's and my longtime passion for the art of storytelling and our shared desire to help creators deliver on their vision, as we have been fortunate to do throughout our careers," Affleck, who will serve as the company's CEO, said in a statement on Sunday.
"Our goal with Artists Equity is to build a creator-focused studio that can optimize the production process with shared participation in the commercial success of projects," he added.
The company is backed by private investment firm RedBird Capital Partners. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Together, Affleck and Damon have generated more than $10.7 billion in worldwide box office sales. One of the goals of the new joint venture is to more equitably share profits with filmmakers, including creators and crew members, as streaming services begin to eclipse traditional theatrical release formats.
Damon, the chief content officer of Artists Equity, said the timing is right as video streaming expands and online views eclipse box office performance as a metric of success.
"It makes sense to us to do it now because we see a real opportunity to give artists more freedom and fair compensation along with greater responsibility and accountability," he told CBS MoneyWatch.
Ben Affleck shares an animated conversation with a crew member on the set of the untitled Nike film just days after his son's Lambo mishap. Affleck is then seen sipping Diet Coke and smoking cigarettes as he takes a stroll with best friend Matt Damon.

President Biden Authorizes Another Student Loan Repayment Pause 23-11-2022
President Biden Authorizes Another Student Loan Repayment Pause 23-11-2022
The Biden administration is extending the pause on student loan payments until no later than June 30, 2023, as the administration's plan to forgive up to to $20,000 in loans is held up in court. President Biden announced the extension Tuesday in a video posted to the White House Twitter account.
Student loan repayments were supposed to resume Jan. 1, 2023, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. But a federal appeals court has blocked the president's student loan forgiveness program, and the administration has asked the Supreme Court to reinstate their stalled plans. For now, the fate of the program remains unclear, with millions of borrowers in limbo.
The White House announced in August that Mr. Biden would be taking executive action to forgive $10,000 in loans for Americans making under $125,000 a year or $250,000 for married couples. Pell grant receipents are eligible for additional $10,000 to be forgiven.
"I'm confident that our student debt relief plan is legal," Mr. Biden tweeted. "But it's on hold because Republican officials want to block it. That's why @SecCardona is extending the payment pause to no later than June 30, 2023, giving the Supreme Court time to hear the case in its current term."
Payments would restart 60 days after the Supreme Court decision or on June 30, whichever comes first. The Supreme Court has not yet said whether they will take the case.
Since the Biden administration announced the plan, it has faced a number of legal challenges, and has been blocked by two federal courts. The White House has said that nearly 26 million Americans have applied for the program, and 16 million applications have already been approved.

Supreme Court declines to block release of Trump tax returns to Congress 23-11-2022
Supreme Court declines to block release of Trump tax returns to Congress 23-11-2022
Washington — The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to block the Treasury Department from turning over several years of former President Donald Trump's tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee, clearing the way for Democrats to obtain the records weeks before Republicans take control of the House in January.
The latest order from the full court dissolves an interim stay issued by Chief Justice John Roberts, who oversees emergency matters arising from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, that kept the House panel from obtaining Trump's records. There were no noted dissents.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday applauded the decision, saying the "documents are vital to meeting the House's Constitutional mandate: guarding the public interest, defending our national security and holding our public officials to account."
The dispute between Trump and the Ways and Means Committee arose from an April 2019 request from Chairman Richard Neal to the Internal Revenue Service for Trump's individual tax records and those of eight of his business entities for 2013 to 2018. Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat, made the request under a federal law that allows the Ways and Means chairman to request certain individuals' tax returns.
Neal is seeking the returns to determine whether Trump and his companies are complying with tax laws, and to oversee whether the IRS audit of the former president was conducted "fully and appropriately."
At the time, the Treasury Department declined to comply, arguing the request was not supported by a legitimate legislative purpose. House Democrats then sued the IRS and department to force them to turn over the tax information.
After the change in presidential administrations, and with the court fight ongoing, Neal renewed his request for five years of income tax returns from Trump and his businesses for 2015 to 2020. The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel also issued an opinion finding the committee had invoked "sufficient reasons'' for requesting Trump's tax information and that the Treasury Department had to turn over the records, a reversal from a legal analysis conducted under the Trump administration. The Treasury said it intended to comply with Neal's later request and turn over the materials to Congress.
Trump again sought to block the release of his tax records, arguing Democrats' lacked a valid legislative purpose for seeking his returns and the request violated the Constitution in part because it was politically motivated. But a federal district court sided with the Democrats, finding Neal's request furthers Congress's study of the presidential audit program. The three-judge panel on the D.C. Circuit affirmed the lower court's decision.
Senior U.S. Circuit Judge David Sentelle wrote in a 33-page ruling that Democrats' request "was made in furtherance of a subject upon which legislation could be had," and he rejected claims from the former president that Democrats' request for his tax information was unconstitutional.
"While it is possible that Congress may attempt to threaten the sitting president with an invasive request after leaving office, every president takes office knowing that he will be subject to the same laws as all other citizens upon leaving office," Sentelle wrote. "This is a feature of our democratic republic, not a bug."
Trump asked the full D.C. Circuit to reconsider the decision, but it declined to rehear the case.
The IRS was set to release the former president's financial records to the Ways and Means Committee on Nov. 3, but Trump asked the Supreme Court to intervene and stop the agency from turning his returns over. Roberts' temporary stay blocked their release.
In his filing with the high court, Trump's lawyers warned the legal fight between the former president and the House committee raises separation of powers questions that will affect future presidents.
"The committee's purpose in requesting President Trump's tax returns has nothing to do with funding or staffing issues at the IRS and everything to do with releasing the president's tax information to the public," they claimed.
But in asking the Supreme Court to allow the House to obtain Trump's records, the Biden administration reiterated the lower courts' conclusions that Neal's request serves a legitimate legislative purpose, and it "warranted involvement of the former president's papers because it implicated a program applicable only to the president and vice president."
Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar wrote, "The request was not overly broad; the request offered detailed and specific evidence that the requested tax information would further its purpose; and the request would not unduly burden the former president, the incumbent, or the institution of the presidency."
In a separate filing, lawyers for the Ways and Means Committee told the Supreme Court that Trump's single term in office raised and amplified concerns about the IRS's ability to effectively apply federal tax laws to presidents.
"Unlike his predecessors, Mr. Trump owned a complex web of businesses, engaged in business activities internationally, had a history of aggressive tax avoidance (as he has boasted), claimed to be under 'continuous audit' since before his presidency, and repeatedly denounced IRS audits of him as 'unfair," they wrote, adding that these "substantial concerns" prompted Neal to start an investigation of the tax agency's presidential audit program with respect to Trump's returns.
House lawyers also warned that "blessing" Trump's position in the case would "significantly undermine Congress's constitutional authority to investigate and legislate."
"Delaying Treasury from providing the requested tax information would leave the committee and Congress as a whole little or no time to complete their legislative work during this Congress, which is quickly approaching its end," they said.

Todd & Julie Chrisley SENTENCED in Tax Fraud Case | E! News
Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced Monday to lengthy prison terms after being convicted earlier this year on charges including bank fraud and tax evasion.
U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross in Atlanta gave Todd Chrisley 12 years in prison, while Julie Chrisley got seven years behind bars, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta. Each is to serve three years supervised release afterward, and Ross also ordered them to pay restitution in an amount to be determined later.
"The Chrisleys have built an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work," prosecutors wrote. "The jury's unanimous verdict sets the record straight: Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another, lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner."
Federal prosecutors had previously said that the couple should each be sentenced to more than ten years in prison.
"A message must be sent to the Chrisleys and others that tax evasion is a serious offense, and that wealthy tax cheats who use personal companies to avoid paying taxes will face a substantial prison sentence," the prosecutors said. "Finally, Todd and Julie Chrisley's arrogance merits special consideration."
The Chrisleys gained fame with their show "Chrisley Knows Best," which follows their tight-knit, boisterous family. Federal prosecutors said the couple engaged in an extensive bank fraud scheme and then hid their wealth from tax authorities while flaunting their lavish lifestyle.
Todd Chrisley's attorneys had argued in a court filing that he should not face more than nine years in prison. Julie Chrisley's lawyers said a reasonable sentence for her would be probation with special conditions and no prison time.
The Chrisleys were convicted in June on charges of bank fraud, tax evasion and conspiring to defraud the IRS. Julie Chrisley was also convicted of wire fraud and obstruction of justice. In a podcast episode released shortly after their convictions, Todd Chrisley said the it was a "heartbreaking time" for his family.
U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said in a June 2022 press release that Todd and Julie Chrisley conspired to defraud community banks in the Atlanta area to obtain more than $30 million in personal loans prior to the launch of their first television show in 2014. The Chrisleys and their former business partner submitted false documents to obtain the loans, and then spent the money on cars, clothes, real estate and travel. They used new loans to pay back the old ones, Buchanan said.
Todd Chrisley filed for bankruptcy and was able to walk away from more than $20 million of the loans. While he claimed he was bankrupt, he and his family were earning millions of dollars from their TV show, according to Buchanan. The Chrisleys were operating a loan-out company, which are usually used by entertainment professionals, and earned money from their show and other entertainment ventures.
When the IRS asked for information about their bank accounts, they transferred their loan-out company's corporate account to Todd Chrisley's mother in an effort to hide from the IRS. However, Todd Chrisley was still operating the loan-out company behind the scenes, Buchanan said.
"The Chrisleys are unique given the varied and wide-ranging scope of their fraudulent conduct and the extent to which they engaged in fraud and obstructive behavior for a prolonged period of time," prosecutors said.
The couple's accountant, Peter Tarantino, was also found guilty of conspiring to defraud the IRS and filing two false corporate tax returns on behalf of the Chrisleys' company.
The prosecutors argued that while "most tax cheaters try to keep a low profile while avoiding detection from the IRS," the Chrisleys did the opposite.
"In 2013, while Todd was in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings, the Chrisleys filmed a promotional video for their new reality show about their extravagant lifestyle. In the video, Todd boasted that he 'make[s] millions of dollars a year,' and in another shot where he is standing in his walk-in closet in his expansive house, he bragged that 'in a year, we probably spend over $300,000, sometimes more, just on clothing.'"
The Chrisleys have three children together and full custody of the 10-year-old daughter of Todd Chrisley's son from a prior marriage. One of the couple's children, Grayson Chrisley, 16, was hospitalized earlier this month after a car accident on Nov. 12.
According to a report from Metropolitan Nashville Police Department that was obtained by CBS News, Grayson Chrisley rear-ended another vehicle on Interstate 65. The driver of the other vehicle suffered injuries but refused to be transported by ambulance at the time of the accident. Chrisley was "unable to recall anything from the accident, possibly due to a head injury," according to the department. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Qatar kicks off 2022 World Cup with message of inclusion 21-11-2022
Qatar kicks off 2022 World Cup with message of inclusion 21-11-2022
Al Khor, Qatar — Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman extended one yellow-gloved hand to a FIFA World Cup ambassador suffering from a rare spinal disorder in an image meant to represent inclusion in a country facing international criticism over its human rights record.
It wasn't the biggest moment of Sunday's seven-act World Cup opening ceremony ahead of the match between host country Qatar and Ecuador, which Ecuador won 2-0. The largest cheers were reserved for the Mideast and African leaders watching from their luxury suites in Bedouin-tent inspired Al Bayt Stadium.
In fact, it was Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who drew a thunderous applause in a short speech delivered in Arabic from the suite. He was seated between FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who secured the World Cup for the tiny gulf nation 12 years ago.
"How beautiful it is for people to put aside what divides them in order to celebrate their diversity and what brings them together at the same time," Sheikh Tamim said, his words translated into English on a video screen inside the stadium.
"I wish all the participating teams a magnificent football performance, high sportsmanship, and a time full of joy, excitement and delight for you all," he continued. "And let there be days that are inspiring with goodness and hope."
He then said, "I welcome you and good luck to all," in his only words spoken in English.
Sheikh Hamad, viewed as the modernizer of Qatar during his 18 years as ruler, further delighted the crowd by autographing an official World Cup shirt handed to him by his son. He then held the shirt up to the crowd.
Qatar, home to 3 million people, most of them migrant workers, has spent more than $200 billion on preparation for the World Cup. Seven new stadiums were built, including the 60,000-seat Al Bayt Stadium north of Doha.
The opening ceremony was meant to introduce Qatar to the world through its culture with a theme of "bridging distances." Creative director Ahmad Al Baker wanted the ceremony to signify "a gathering for all mankind, an invitation to come together as one, bridging all differences with humanity, respect and inclusion."
It hit the mark when Sheikh Tamim was joined in the stadium suite by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, two leaders who had boycotted Qatar for years. Not present were the leaders of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, the two other nations involved in the boycott.
There were no major Western leaders in attendance, as Qatar is under intense scrutiny for its treatment of the migrant workers who prepped the nation for the World Cup, as well as the LGBTQ community. Gay and lesbian sex is criminalized in Qatar.
But among those who did attend the opening match were U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
Kuwait's crown prince came, along with the director-general of the World Health Organization and Djibouti's president. Also present was Jordan's King Abdullah II.
They listened as BTS' Jung Kook, while Qatari singer and producer Fahad Al Kubaisi debuted the single "Dreamers," produced specifically for the World Cup.
Then came remarks from Infantino, who spoke in Arabic, Spanish and finally English to officially open the tournament.
"Dear friends, welcome, welcome, to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022," Infantino said in English. "Welcome to celebrate football because football unites the world. And now let's welcome the teams and let the show begin."
As "The Business" by Tiesto blasted over the speakers, Qatar and Ecuador took to the field and the World Cup officially began.

Power Rangers Star Jason David Frank Dead at 49 | E! News
Jason David Frank, who played the Green Power Ranger Tommy Oliver on the 1990s children's series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," has died, his manager said in a statement on Sunday. He was 49.
Justine Hunt, Frank's manager, did not name the cause of death or say when he died, but asked for "privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being."
Walter Emmanuel Jones, the original Black Power Ranger who co-starred with Frank in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," wrote on Instagram that he couldn't believe it. "My heart is sad to have lost another member of our special family," Jones wrote. Thuy Trang, who played the original Yellow Power Ranger, died in a car accident in 2001 at age 27.
"Mighty Morphine Power Rangers," about five teenagers deputized to save Earth from the evil, debuted on Fox in 1993 and went on to become a pop-culture phenomenon. Early in the first season, Frank's Tommy Oliver was first seen as a villain, brainwashed by the evil Rita Repulsa. But soon after, he was inducted in the group as the Green Ranger and became one of the most popular characters on the show.
Though his role wasn't intended to be permanent, Frank was later brought back as the White Ranger and the leader of the team. Across spinoff TV series, Frank's Tommy Oliver returned as other rangers, as well, including Red Zeo Ranger, the Red Turbo Ranger and the Black Dino Ranger. He also played him in the films "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie," and made a cameo in the 2017 reboot "Power Rangers."
A practitioner of martial arts, Frank fought in several mixed martial arts bouts in 2009 and 2010.
TMZ earlier reported that Frank's second wife, Tammie Frank, filed for divorce from him in August. Frank is survived by four children; one from his marriage with Tammie Frank and three from his first marriage to Shawna Frank.
