A journey through time: The Acropolis of Athens
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and over the centuries, it has served as a home to kings, a citadel, a mythical home of the gods, a religious center, and a tourist attraction. The buildings that still stand today, including the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Propylaea, and others, were constructed under the direction of Pericles in the 5th century BC. These structures are the remnants of the Golden Age of Greece.
**Why Visit the Acropolis**
Visiting the Acropolis offers a deep dive into the heart of Greek heritage, with the majestic Parthenon standing as its crown jewel. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to several iconic structures. The Acropolis’s history is intertwined with the birth of democracy, philosophy, and the arts, making it a focal point for scholars and tourists alike to explore the origins of these fundamental concepts. Moreover, the Acropolis is the centerpiece of Athens, rising up from the city center, making it a very popular place to visit.
**Recommendations for Visiting the Acropolis**
To avoid the throngs of tourists and the scorching sun, aim for an early morning or late afternoon visit. The Acropolis opens its gates at 8:00 AM, so getting there right at opening time can give you a cooler and somewhat more private experience. Since the city of Athens has made visitors select a mandatory timed entry, when booking tickets, you can choose the time and date that you want to enter. Also, consider learning about the history of the Acropolis before your visit to enrich your experience. Lastly, don't forget to visit the Acropolis Museum to see many of the artifacts that have been moved there.

Aminciu
Aminciu, Greek: Μέτσοβο, Metsovo, is a city in northwestern Greece (Pindos Mountains) with a majority Vlach (Aromanian) population.
The Aromanian language is related to the vulgar Latin spoken in the Balkans during the Roman period.
The Aromanians were part of a Daco-Romanian migration from the north of the Danube between the 2nd and 10th centuries, supporting the theory that the population descend from the ancient Dacians and Romans.
The town is famous for its local cheeses (Metsovone and Metsovela, among others) and for its winemaking industries, including the Katógi vineyard of the Averoff family.
Metsovo is a popular winter vacation destination and ski resort town. The Metsovo Ski Centre is situated not far from the centre of Metsovo.

Meteora - suspended in the air
Metéora is group of Orthodox Christian monasteries on the summits of vertical rock formations in Thessalía, Greece. The monasteries are located just north of the small town of Kalambáka, south of the village of Kastraki, and east of the Pindus Mountains in the valley of the Pineiós River. The name "Meteora" was derived from a Greek contraction meaning “suspended in the air.”
Although by the 15th century there were 24 monasteries functioning, each containing a church or two and monks’ cells, only 6 remain:
- Great Metéoron
- Varlaám (Áyioi Pándes)
- Roussanou
- St. Nikolas (Áyios Nikolaos)
- Holy Trinity (Áyia Triada)
- St. Stephen (Áyios Stéfanos)
Some still serve a religious function, though they are now only sparsely populated by monks and nuns. Since the construction of paved roads through the area in the 1960s, it has been visited annually by thousands of tourists and pilgrims.
The Monastery of Agia Triada, which means Holy Trinity features in the final scenes of a James Bond film, called "For Your Eyes Only".

Corinth canal
The Corinth Canal cuts the Isthmus of Corinth in a straight line 6346 meters long and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, making the peninsula an island. The width of the canal is 24.6 meters at sea level and 21.3 meters at the bottom level. The depth range is from 7.5 to 8 meters. Twelve million cubic meters of earth had to be removed to cut out the entire passage.
It saves ships the nearly 321-kilometer (300 mile) journey around the plane tree leaf-shaped cape, allowing them to reach ports further east much faster.
Naval traffic in the Corinth Canal was inaugurated in a ceremony held on July 25th, 1893.
