Elephants Dream|Bassam Kurdali |Short Animation Movie
"Elephants Dream is the story of two strange characters exploring a capricious and seemingly infinite machine. The elder, Proog, acts as a tour-guide and protector, happily showing off the sights and dangers of the machine to his initially curious but increasingly skeptical protege Emo. As their journey unfolds we discover signs that the machine is not all Proog thinks it is, and his guiding takes on a more desperate aspect.
Elephants Dream is the world’s first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use..."
© Copyright 2006, Blender Foundation / Netherlands Media Art Institute / www.elephantsdream.org The movie “Elephants Dream” and all data on the DVDs and almost all of the contents on this website is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution license. In short, this means you can freely reuse and distribute this content, also commercially, for as long you provide a proper attribution. The attribution is either one of the following cases 1) For the orange.blender.org website and files on the DVD ROMs: Blender Foundation | www.blender.org 2) If you screen or broadcast the entire movie and/or documentary: Include the entire credits roll in ending. 3) If you re-use (or screen, broadcast) parts of the movie or documentary itself, or duplicate the DVDs: © copyright 2006, Blender Foundation / Netherlands Media Art Institute / www.elephantsdream.org 4) Some of the texture files on the DVDs have an own Creative Commons attribution, these are indicated clearly. 5) The additional soundtrack audio files on this website are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 license. See the original announcement for details. This is the first time such a large collection of files get launched under ‘the commons’, and therefore still a bit complex to grasp what to credit when exactly. The guidelines above are just meant to ensure that attribution happens in a reasonable way. If in doubt, use the third choice above. Excluded from the Creative Commons is:
all logos on this website (including Blender logo, Orange logo, Creative Commons logo) and associated trademarks
the DVD cover (inlay) and DVD disc print
Examples You are free to duplicate the DVDs and distribute or sell them, but in that case you have to make your own cover art and DVD prints for it, with of course the proper attribution as mentioned above in 3). You are free to broadcast the movie and documentary on your local TV station, just include the entire credits roll too. You can re-edit parts of the movie into a video clip for your band, just include the attribution as mentioned above in 3). You can use textures and .blend files (or models, rigs, etc) from the data collection on the DVDs, also in commercial projects. Just make sure we get our short credit as mentioned above in 1). You can organize a screening in a cinema, and charge an entrance fee for it. Just include the movie credits in the screening. You can submit the movie to festivals even! Festivals can also screen the movie without our permission. It would be nice though to get a notification for it, especially when we win prizes! :)

Youth||Joseph Conrad||story & poetry 2022
LibriVox recording of Youth, version 2 by Joseph Conrad.
Read in English by Peter Dann
This short tale was first published in book form alongside 'Heart of Darkness' and 'The End of the Tether', the three tales representing youth, middle age and old age, respectively. One of Conrad's 'Marlow yarns', the story is based on the trouble-plagued, much-delayed and ultimately ill-fated voyage of the cargo vessel 'Palestine' (here, 'Judea') carrying coal from England to Bangkok in 1882-1883, on which Conrad served his first posting as second mate. The story is notable (and somewhat unusual, for Conrad) in the light-hearted buoyancy of the narrator's tone as he confronts difficulty after difficulty.(Summary by Peter Dann)

Our Little Hindu Cousin || Blanche McManus || Story & Poetry
This book is one of a series that aims at describing other cultures to children in an entertaining way that honors the culture, educates the child and keeps their minds open to the possibility of other people living wonderful lives in far off places. "Our little cousins of Hindustan are charming little people, even though their manners and customs and their religion are so very different from our own. India is a big country, and there are many different races of people living within its borders, the two principal ones being the Mohammedans and the Hindus. The Mohammedans number about sixty millions and there are about a hundred and eighty millions of Hindus, who are by far the superior race. The intelligence of the Hindus is of a very high order, but, like all Eastern races, they have many superstitions. Their attention to their food and drink and personal cleanliness is remarkable, and, though their customs in this respect are peculiar, they follow a healthful and sanitary manner of living which might well be practised by Western folk." The Game of Life and How to Play It||Florence Scovel Shinn||Story & poetry
LibriVox recording of The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn. Read by Amy Conger.
Florence Scovel Shinn, an illustrator living in New York City, became a teacher of New Thought after a divorce. New Thought was a movement which holds the belief that individuals can create their own reality through intentional thoughts and prayer, much like the current Law of Attraction movement. The Game of Life and How to Play It is her first book, and is remarkable for being written by a woman and meant for a genteel female audience.
