According to popular tradition, a merchant acquired the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help from the island of Crete and shipped it to Rome toward the end of the fifteenth century. During the voyage, a terrible storm arose, threatening the lives of all on the ship, and the passengers and crew prayed to Our Lady and were saved. Once in Rome, the merchant, who was dying, ordered that the image should be displayed for public veneration. His friend retained the picture and received further instructions through a dream his young daughter had. The Blessed Mother appeared to her as she slept and expressed the desire for the image to be venerated in a church between the Basilicas of Saint Mary Major and Saint John Lateran in Rome. And so, the picture was housed at the Church of Saint Matthew. Pilgrims flocked to the church for the next three hundred years, and extraordinary graces were bestowed upon the faithful. After Napoleon’s troops destroyed the Church of Saint Matthew in 1812, the image was transferred to the Church of Saint Mary in Posterula. It remained there for nearly forty years when it was neglected and forgotten. But by an action of Divine Providence, the forgotten image was rediscovered. The story of this rediscovery is impressive in its simplicity. Over several years, an Augustinian monk took pains to point the icon out to a young altar boy named Michael. The monk impressed on the young lad the importance and beauty of the image, even though he did not know of its origins. Michael never forgot the words of his mentor. He later became a Redemptorist Father and told his fellow priests about Our Lady of Perpetual Help. One thing led to another, and in 1865 the Superior General of the Redemptorist order wrote to the Holy Father, asking permission to “adopt” the image. Soon after that, Blessed Pope Pius IX sent a letter to Father General Mauron and ordered that the image once again be publicly venerated in Via Merulana, the new church of Saint Alphonsus. The same Pontiff directed the Augustinian friars to surrender the icon to the Redemptorist priests. The Redemptorists must supply the Augustinians with another picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Help or a good copy of the icon in exchange as a gesture of goodwill. Upon its official transfer, Pope Pius IX finally gave his Apostolic Blessing. He titled the icon Mater de Perpetuo Succursu (Mother of Perpetual Help). When the image was carried in a solemn procession through the streets, a young child was miraculously cured, the first of many recorded miracles attributed to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Today, Our Lady of Perpetual Help is the most widely known icon in the world. It is a Byzantine icon painted on wood. It depicts the Blessed Mother under the “Mother of God” title, holding the child Jesus. You might be looking at this icon and thinking, “That’s not a very realistic image.” Well, icons are not meant to be merely physical representations of the subject matter but artistic portrayals of eternal truths. In this case, the artist has the child Jesus contemplating the vision of His future passion, and in His anguish, He runs to His Mother to be consoled. Notice that His left sandal is dangling from His foot, which indicates how hastily He ran to His Mother. And there is so much more rich symbolism, but we’re running out of time for today! I love Our Lady of Perpetual Help because she reminds me that a mother always tries to help her children. And when I think of the Mother of God as my Mother, I often turn to her for help. Knowing that her support for us is unending gives me enormous hope and is deeply comforting. On a March day in Hanover, Pennsylvania, TFP Student Action volunteers stood on the street corner and chanted, “Every child needs a mother and a father!” In a culture becoming more and more friendly with the infamous rainbow flag, these courageous men were campaigning for traditional marriage and moral values, and they weren’t the only ones. On that same day, all across America there were 2,000 rosary rallies in honor of Saint Joseph promoting marriage between one man and one woman, the way God made it. Overall, the rally went well. I personally have hope for America after hearing about the sheer number of agreeable honks they received. But others in from the woke culture weren’t so happy to see Student Action promote traditional marriage. One woman was so mad she got out of her car and came to debate with them for some time. She began by demanding to know of one of the volunteers what he would do if his child said they were gay. Would he turn them away? “You’re supposed to love your child!” she shrieked. But turning the tables, she was asked what she would do if her child was an alcoholic. Why, she answered, she’d take him to rehab. He asked, “Would you give him more alcohol?” She said, “No, absolutely not.” “So, if somebody has a propensity to lust, which is a sin of the flesh, you’re going to say go ahead and do it.” But she continued to argue with him, saying, “It’s not hurting me, it’s not even hurting them.” Oh, but it is. He went on to explain that Drag Queen Story Hours exist where homosexual crossdressers give talks in public libraries to three-year-old children, teaching them about gender fluidity. That’s harming children. But soon, the debate degraded as the woman began insulting him with vulgar language. And the next conversation, well, you’ll just have to hear it for yourself. Two leftist women approached a Student Action volunteer. He told them what the ultimate consequences of the homosexual arguments lead to—pederasty. He pointed out, “If you look at the history of when homosexuality was accepted, they use the same arguments as they’re using now for pederasty.” They protested, so he asked them, “Can a child decide she can be a boy even though she’s a girl?” The leftists believed she could. He went on. “If the child is intelligent enough to accept transgenderism, the argument could be made why can’t the child be just as intelligent enough to accept sexual relationships with pederasts.” That sounds logical to me, but “No,” they argued, “That’s not the child’s fault. That is the adult’s fault. The child cannot make that decision.” They held fast, arguing the child can still make the decision about which gender they choose to be. You and I both know that the child cannot make either of those decisions! The women ended by screaming, “You want people to not be happy! You’re taking away everything!” I can only think of a child having his toy taken away when I hear this. What a serious thing to be taken so lightly. God did more than hurt people’s feelings when He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. And Our Lady of Fatima warned that the sins that cause the most people to go to Hell are the sins of the flesh and that includes homosexuality, transgenderism, pedophilia and bestiality. The woke culture wants to normalize transgenderism, same-sex unions, and immoral behavior in general. But those, like you, who love the truth and wish to restore One Nation Under God are quickly coalescing around traditional moral values. So, let’s talk about this cleric who sold his soul to the devil, and how Our Lady managed to save him…. The story of Theophilus took place in Sicily and gave birth to a famous legend which inspired “The Miracle of Theophilus,” one of the most famous works of medieval literature. At midnight, the streets of the city were empty. Hidden by the shadows of the night, Theophilus stole away to the door of a dreary house in an outlying neighborhood. Soon afterward, he was received inside by a wizard who listened to his woes and problems. Well, what was Theophilus’ problem? As a parish priest in a prosperous diocese in Sicily, he had administered Church properties with dedication for a long time, making it easier for his bishop to govern souls. But one day the bishop died. And who was to become the new bishop? Everyone declared, “Theophilus, of course!” When the honor was offered to him, Theophilus declined with simplicity, stating that it was his vocation to remain a parish priest. Eventually, a new bishop was installed in that diocese. But he did not trust Theophilus and dismissed him. Sadness and despair invaded the priest’s soul. While he wandered about, the devil whispered to him, “To lose your post; to lose your career; how could they do this to you, Theophilus? You can’t let this situation stand!” It was in this state of soul that the priest knocked on the wizard’s door. But the latter told him, “There’s only one way out. To invoke the help of evil powers.” Theophilus hesitated for a moment, but resentment ate up his heart. He finally accepted the proposal. Invoked by the wizard, the devil immediately appeared in all his hideousness. Okay, back to Theophilus. Remember, he had just accepted the wizard’s proposal, and the devil had just appeared….. After arriving, and amidst shouts and blasphemies, Satan dictated to Theophilus the terms of his contract which was to be written on parchment by Theophilus’ own blood, and sealed with his ring. He was to renounce the Catholic Faith, the Church, the Most Holy Virgin, and Our Lord Jesus Christ. This he did and soon Theophilus recovered his post. Fortune and pleasures smiled on him, but a great malaise tormented his soul. He felt as though an invisible hand were crushing his heart. In addition, he felt extremely unhappy with the idea that one day his happiness was going to end. Most of all, he was terrified with the knowledge of who his master was. Unable to bear that situation any longer, Theophilus entered the church and threw himself at the feet of Our Lady and bitterly wept for his sin. He did this for forty consecutive days, renewing his supplications and begging for forgiveness. One evening Our Lady appeared to him and severely reproached the infamous deed he had committed. In tears, Theophilus implored her mercy. Our Lady said she would forgive him for having denied her, but not for having denied her Son. Something more was required. Theophilus prayed fervently, but he didn’t dare address Our Lord. Instead he asked Our Lady to intercede for him. Our Lady reminded him that, before anything else, it was necessary to retrieve the contract he had signed with the devil, which was in hell. Finally, full of mercy, Our Lady decided to retrieve the contract Herself. For three days, Theophilus lay prostrate on the ground. Then, Our Lady appeared again and gave him the contract as a symbol of her pardon. But this is not the end of the story. After Sunday Mass, Theophilus publicly confessed his sins and the cursed parchment was burned. Three days later, Theophilus died, comforted by the Sacraments, and was buried in that same church. That clash between young Catholics and pro-socialist students took place on February 20, 2023, when TFP Student Action volunteers went to Towson University in Maryland to oppose socialism. Reactions to the TFP’s peaceful event on campus were mixed. Many students expressed disdain for socialist ideas that have shipwrecked every nation where it existed, but others who are supporters of communism and socialism, displayed illogical and vulgar hatred. So what was the conclusion? Is free speech free and respected? Not so much for patriotic Americans. Let me tell you the rest of the story. TFP volunteers set up their campaign at Freedom Square in the heart of campus. Their banner read, “May God Protect America from Socialism,” and they handed out flyers titled “Ten Reasons to Reject Socialism.” The flyer explains how socialism and communism are the same ideology and both violate legitimate and personal freedom and human nature. In a short time, hundreds of flyers circulated and dozens of debates followed. One young woman erased the quote that TFP wrote on the free speech board. And soon enough, university police arrived to say that prior permission was needed for TFP volunteers to exercise their First Amendment rights in Freedom Square.” They were kicked OUT of Freedom Square. According to Towson University’s website, Freedom Square’s mission is to “provide a forum for the campus community to express and deliberate issues of civic concern.” The square “shall be a haven for freedom of expression and speech, in addition to encouraging an atmosphere of critical thinking and debate.” I guess there was no free speech for those opposed to the left’s agenda! So, the scene was ironic. A university official and two police officers escorted the volunteers away from Freedom Square to Towson University’s “designated public space,” which was a desolate place off campus with zero interaction with students. It seems that free speech is only for those with liberal views. But instead of being dismayed, TFP volunteers found a busy street corner where students walked. At this location, they continued their outreach and received a number of positive honks from the cars and trucks that passed by. As they worked to change hearts and minds, among the various people they encountered, was a young man who was a self-proclaimed socialist that followed Student Action all the way from Freedom Square to their new location, demonstrating that he knew how to give his middle finger to us the entire way. He muttered pro-transgender propaganda as he stood near the group. He continued to scream “Hail Satan!” as the TFP volunteers prayed the rosary. He made the clear connection between Satan and communism. Then the TFP asked the young man, “Why are you a socialist?” But he didn’t have an answer. He only lifted his stereo in the air, inviting them to join in his dancing as he played the USSR anthem. Not long later, he yelled out, “I am pro-communism!” Again, he was asked, “Why?” but didn’t have an answer. It was simply impossible to have a debate with him. Another young man came to hold a sign next to the group that said, “Honk if you support LGBTQ rights.” So he was asked how he made the connection between LGBTQ rights and socialism. He responded, “Oh, I’m just out here having fun honestly…It’s kind of weird vibes out here and I think these are better vibes.” He did not want to talk about the link between LGBTQ and socialism. But on a more positive note, three students stopped to tell the TFP how happy they were to have them on campus. They admired the TFP for going into the hotbed of wherever there is controversy, and to do it without fear. With Christ and truth on their side, they said, what can we fear? Sr. Maria de Agreda, we find a profound understanding of the power of suffering. We reflect on her words today to better understand the science of suffering and its profound impact on our spiritual journey. Though bitter and often difficult to bear, suffering holds the key to freeing ourselves from sin and the passions that bind us. “By the bitterness of sorrow and affliction, the vapors of sin are allayed; the excesses of the concupiscible and irascible passions are crushed; pride and arrogance are humiliated; the flesh is subdued; the inclination to evil, to the sensible and earthly creatures, is repressed; the judgment is cleared; the will is brought within bounds and its desultory movements at the call of the passions, are corrected; and, above all, the divine love and pity are drawn down upon the afflicted, who embrace suffering with patience, or who seek it to imitate my Most Holy Son. In this science of suffering are renewed all the blessed riches of the creatures; those that fly from them are insane, and those that know nothing of this science are foolish. Exert thyself then, my dearest daughter, to advance in this knowledge, welcome labors and suffering, and give up ever desiring human consolations.” As uncomfortable as it may be, suffering serves as a corrective force, repressing our inclination to evil and redirecting our focus toward the divine. It clears the judgment, bringing clarity to our discernment and reins in the wandering movements of the will, aligning it with our divine purpose. But perhaps most importantly, suffering draws upon us the divine love and pity, as we embrace it with patience and seek to imitate Christ in His passion. In our willingness to endure suffering for the sake of love, we open ourselves to the abundant graces that flow from the heart of God. In a world that often seeks to avoid suffering at all costs, Mary reminds us of the folly of such a mindset. Those who flee from suffering fail to recognize the blessings hidden within its depths. Therefore, let us heed Mary's call to embrace suffering willingly and welcome labor with open arms. Let us relinquish our desire for human consolation and, instead, find solace in the arms of our suffering Savior. In doing so, we not only grow closer to Christ but also partake in the blessed riches of His grace. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, our compassionate Mother, guide us on this journey of embracing suffering with courage and patience. May we emerge from its crucible refined and purified, ready to embrace the fullness of divine love. Thank you for joining me. It reveals a great division. One America stands for God and moral values and the other America tramples on those same values and lives for themselves. Just to briefly describe the marches I’m talking about, the March for Life is the largest annual rally to end abortion. It’s youthful, peaceful, and prayerful. In contrast, the Women’s March promotes abortion on demand and its followers support free love, homosexuality, transgenderism and hate moral values. And both sides were asked the same 6 questions by TFP Student Action. The first question was: What was your reaction to the reversal of Roe v. Wade? The pro-lifers responded with joy. They said they were praising the Lord. And those at the Women’s March responded that they were disappointed and fearful. Nothing too surprising here. But you might be stunned at the responses to question number 2: Which side of the debate has the most momentum right now? Those interviewed at the March for Life didn’t hesitate to claim that victory for the pro-life side. More than one pro-lifer said that truth is on their side, and you can’t beat the truth. In contrast, those at the Women’s March were unsure in their answers. One young woman answered, “Yes and no.” She believed the organization was a little off and if they wait a little bit longer the turnout should be larger. Another woman said, “I want to side with us. I want to side with pro-choice. And I’m hoping that we have enough to push through. I genuinely don’t know if we will. But I believe in us so hard.” Hmm…that doesn’t sound very confident to me. Okay, on to question 3: What’s the greatest injustice in America right now? Again, without hesitation, the pro-lifers were undivided: Abortion, plain and simple is the greatest injustice in America right now. And those at the Women’s March took a different route. One woman answered “poverty,” another, “gun rights,” and another, “the treatment of woman.” So then it was important to ask both sides the big question, “What’s the role of purity and chastity in the abortion debate?” The pro-lifers unanimously agreed that those virtues have a role in saving the unborn. A pro-life woman left no room for debate when she said, “It’s the first step. If you don’t want to bear the consequences of intimacy then you should practice a chaste life.” Unsurprisingly, a pro-choicer at the Women’s March did not agree. “Kids will be kids. That’s all I gotta say,” she answered, indicating there’s no room for self-control. Now on to the fifth question, which dealt with Planned Parenthood’s decision to offer puberty blockers to children. What’s your reaction to that? TFP asked. Here’s what they said… And this last question is amusing because of the absurdity of such a question in the first place: True or False? Only women can get pregnant. Can you guess the answers? On the pro-life side, 6 out of 6 gave a confident affirmative. True. Only women get pregnant. On the pro-choice side, answers varied a bit. The first feminist had to think about it. After a couple seconds, she laughed “True.” The others? False, false, and false. “Trans-men can also be pregnant as well,” one leftist said. All of this indicates there’s a battle between the America that loves God and His law and the America that promotes vice and the culture of death. Which America do you want? Which America will you fight for? For peace in our world, we have our marching orders from Our Lady of Fatima. Pray and do penance for the conversion of sinners. As if seeing the Blessed Virgin Mary isn’t enough of a miracle, the three children of Fatima witnessed another miracle during Our Lady’s third apparition at Fatima in July 1917. This time, it was not a pleasant one, but it was a necessary one. This miracle given by Our Lady to the children was a vision of Hell. Ten-year-old Lucia was the oldest of the three children. She was responsible for writing down accounts of everything they saw. The vision of Hell would never be erased from her memory. Lucia recalled the vision: “Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in a massive fire, without weight or equilibrium, and amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear. “The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repulsive likeness to frightful and unknown animals, all black and transparent. This vision lasted but an instant. How can we ever be grateful enough to our kind heavenly Mother, who had already prepared us by promising, in the first apparition, to take us to Heaven? Otherwise, we would have died of fear and terror.” Wow! After the apparition, this photo (show photo) was taken. The children’s stunned and sober faces speak volumes about what they witnessed in the vision of Hell, don’t you think? And consider this. That terrifying vision of Hell lasted only a few moments, enough to nearly scare them out of their minds. But there is no way out for souls who send themselves there through grave sin. And the vision itself was not random. Our Lady had a serious purpose for it. But, you see, God has graced people over the centuries with private revelations relating to Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. These visions help us understand what happens to a soul after death. Our Lady’s love for souls is so great that she wanted to show the horrors of Hell in the hope that we steer clear of anything that leads to that place of endless pain and torment. So, she graced our times with a warning. Jacinta was particularly riveted by the apparition. After the vision, her every thought was of helping save the souls of “poor sinners,” She spared no prayer or sacrifice for that end. After the apparition, Our Lady said to the children so kindly and sadly, “You have seen Hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.” Her remedy consisted of prayer, especially the Holy Rosary, and penance, for the conversion of sinners that will bring peace to your soul and the world. But before we get into more scientific details, I want to give you a glimpse of what can be observed on the Shroud with the naked eye. If you’ve ever wondered what Our Lord looks like in the flesh, this will give you an idea. The body depicted on the sheet is a male in his thirties with a beard, long hair and a robust constitution. He was five feet, nine inches tall, with typically Semitic features. From the imprint, we can deduce that the Man of the Shroud was tortured, scourged, crucified and pierced in his side by a lance. And I’m only getting started. There are blood markers on the Shroud. According to medical studies, to obtain the blood markers seen on the Holy Shroud, the crucified must have been wrapped in the cloth within two and a half hours after death and remained no more than 40 hours since there are no traces of putrefaction. Incredibly, the bloodstains reveal the depths of Our Lord’s sufferings. The evidence shows that abrasions and swelling cover Our Lord’s entire head, especially the right side of His face below the eye. The cartilage in His nose had been fractured close to where it joins the bone. These injuries had been caused by a heavy stick about two inches in diameter wielded as a club. Our Lord suffered so much, so that our sins would be forgiven. And through his suffering, he also gave us the sacraments of the Church, like Holy Mass. Studies also tell us that Christ was scourged by a Roman flagrum, which is two balls of lead shaped like a dumbbell at the end. The beating must have been severe (far worse than the Jewish 40 lashes minus one that were called for) since only those bruises that drew blood would show up on the linen. Yet over a hundred have been counted, mostly on the backside. This is simply Horrific! Then blood from the scalp indicates the Crown of Thorns was actually a cap of long, sharp thorns beaten against the head with sticks. The resulting rivulets are so graphic that many physicians can distinguish between blood flows from arteries from those of the veins. And the blood flows on the arms and the stains from the wounds on His wrists reveal the acute agony that Our Lord endured during the three to five hours that He had hung on the Cross. Keep in mind that He was attached to the wood by only three nails, or more properly, spikes. These spikes carried the entire weight of a 175-pound man who was forced to constantly change positions. So, when a man is hung by his arms, the body sags, acute pains develop and he begins to suffocate. To alleviate this condition, he pushes up against the spike driven through his feet, which just transfers the agony elsewhere. And so the victim of this cruel torture keeps changing his position until exhaustion or the unendurable pain, or both, overtake him. It's difficult to even speak of. ... The scientific saga of the Holy Shroud began with the advent of photography. An Italian lawyer named Secondo Pia had been experimenting extensively with the recently discovered art of photography. On May 25, 1898, he took the very first photo of the Holy Shroud. In the darkroom, as he immersed the first two plates into the chemicals for development, astonishment and excitement arose in him, for instead of the usual negative he saw a positive image of Christ’ lifeless body. It is undoubtedly a mystery. It would be simply impossible for a medieval forger or any other artist to anticipate the photographic developing process centuries before it was invented. Overall, the positive print provided a wealth of information for medical investigators that is unobservable on the cloth itself. After the photographic sessions of 1898 and the subsequent dispute, the Shroud lay undisturbed in its reliquary until two public exhibitions in the early 1930s. During this period, another series of photos was taken and intensive research was conducted by Dr. Pierre Barbet, the chief surgeon and professor of anatomy at one of Paris’ leading hospitals. Incredibly, the body image lies only on the topmost fibrils of the threads and does not penetrate any deeper as paint or any liquid substance would. And they found that the image without any enhancing equipment could not be seen within six feet and required a viewer to stand beyond that distance. So, any forger would need a very long paintbrush, but this information is valuable not just because it refutes a forgery, but because further studies of the body image, when analyzed by the VP-8 analyzer equipment that uses light waves, produced a three-dimensional image. The intensity of dark and light represented the distance which part of the body lay from the Shroud covering at the moment of impression. When that information was entered into a special computer, a three-dimensional image resulted. News of the three-dimensional qualities of the Shroud’s bodily imprint inspired several scientists, mostly pathologists, chemists and physicists, to form a group known as STURP, which stands for Shroud of Turin Research Project... They made arrangements for a hands-on examination at the conclusion of a scheduled exposition in 1978. Even modern technology has proven the authenticity of the Holy Shroud time and again, as well as unlocked many hidden features including the three-dimensional qualities of Our Lord’s bodily imprint. But few objects of veneration have attracted so much controversy as the Shroud of Turin. Let’s begin with the most recent and modern controversy. On the morning of October 14, 1988, the world awoke to shocking newspaper headlines on a subject that rarely even makes the front pages: “The Shroud of Turin declared a fake.” This bit of hyperbole resulted from three badly managed carbon 14 tests of cloth snipped from the Shroud. This famous Carbon-14 dating study upon the Shroud declared with “95% confidence” that the Shroud dated only from 1260 – 1390 A.D. In other words, it was believed to be a medieval forgery, or so they said. Since the casual, unsuspecting reader thinks such tests are hallowed science, everybody thought the case was closed, especially when the Archbishop-Cardinal of Turin put up a rather weak defense. Not only is the case not closed, but because of the sloppy, unprofessional, if not malicious conduct of those involved in the Carbon-14 dating study, the result can easily be challenged. The principal problem for dating came from the location of the sample they took: the worst possible place was chosen by two textile experts who had never seen the Shroud before. At least four or five repairs had been done in the area, which also had been contaminated by wax and starch, which usually distorts the results. I personally see this as an example of the modern world trying to HIDE the truth of Our Lord’s Divinity from us. They don’t want you and I to know the truth. Remember, the Carbon Dating study had FAILED to accurately date Our Lord’s shroud. In stark contrast to the 1988 Carbon-14 dating study, Dr. Liberato De Caro, from Italy’s Institute of Crystallography of the National Research Council in Bari, has spent nearly 30 years studying the Shroud of Turin. Together with a team of researchers, he recently tested fibers from the Shroud using the “Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering” (WAXS) method. This fancy word simply refers to a manner of research which examines the natural aging of the cellulose that makes up the linen to provide age estimates. Dr. De Caro’s research is so recent that it was published in just this last year—April 11, 2022 to be exact. And what he found from the thread sample of the Shroud is that it is fully compatible with a linen sample from Israel dated 55-74 A.D. according to historical records. Our tale takes place in the third century, when an order was given to build a shrine dedicated to the Mother of God under the title of Mother of Good Counsel. So, the church was built on the ruins of Roman temples in the little Italian town of Genazzano, Italy. Over time, the church began to show signs of disrepair. But financial difficulties prevented the necessary and urgent restoration of the ancient temple, until a Third Order Augustinian, Petruccia de Nocera, resolved to take the initiative. After obtaining permission, Petruccia donated her goods to initiate the restoration in the hope that others would help complete it once it was started, but it was barely enough to complete the first phase of the new construction and no one came forth to help. To her dismay, the building had hardly risen three feet when construction came to a halt due to lack of resources. Her friends and neighbors began to ridicule her. Until on April 25, 1467, the feast day of the city’s patron, Saint Mark, a crowd gathered in celebration in front of the unfinished church of the Mother of Good Counsel. At about four in the afternoon, everyone heard the chords of a beautiful melody that seemed to come from heaven. The people looked up toward the towers of the churches and saw a white cloud that shone with a thousand luminous rays; it gradually neared the stunned crowd to the sound of an exceptionally beautiful melody. Suddenly, the bells of the old tower began to ring by themselves, and the other bells of the town rang miraculously in unison. The cloud itself gradually vanished, and revealed a beautiful painting of Our Lady tenderly holding her Divine Son in her arms. Almost immediately, Our Lady began to miraculously cure the sick and grant countless consolations. And amid the general enthusiasm caused by the painting, Our Lady wished to divulge the true origin of the marvelous fresco. Okay, back to our story. Remember, the painting of Our Lady had just appeared, and had started miraculously curing the sick and dying… In the same year that the painting flew to Genazzano, the city of Scutari in Albania, was expected to be captured at any moment by the Turkish army. With its fall, Christian Albania would be defeated. Giorgio and De Sclavis thought of fleeing, but something kept them in Scutari, where there was a small church, considered the shrine of the whole Albanian kingdom. In this church the faithful venerated a picture of Our Lady which had mysteriously descended from the heavens two hundred years before. So the two Albanians went to the old church to ask their Blessed Mother for the good counsel they needed. That night, Our Lady commanded them in their sleep to follow the miraculous fresco. The next morning, they saw the picture detach itself from the wall on where it had been for two centuries. It hovered for a moment and was then suddenly wrapped in a white cloud. The painting traveled at a pace that allowed the two walkers to follow, first to the coast, then over the Adriatic Sea, where they walked on the waves, until they reached Rome, when the cloud disappeared before their eyes. All their attempts to find the painting failed. But soon amazing news came to Rome: A picture of Our Lady had appeared in Genazzano. The two Albanians rushed to find their country’s beloved treasure miraculously suspended in the air next to the wall of the chapel where it remains to this day. Careful investigation later proved that the two were telling the truth and that the image was actually the same one that had hung at the shrine in Scutari. The image of Our Lady hovered in the back left portion of the foundation approximately four feet in the air. This became the main altar in the church and the fresco still remains suspended in the air after five hundred years. In that clip you just saw, the day began somewhat calmly for the young man holding the pro-life sign. He and a group of young men called TFP Student Action planted their feet on the sidewalks of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. just that morning peacefully holding their pro-life signs. But what unfolded on that cloudy afternoon was eye opening. First, their signs struck a nerve of a young woman who was walking her dog. Instantly angry, she yelled out that infamous slogan, “My body, my choice!” “It’s a fetus!” and NOT a baby, the woman repeated over and over. Well, then, she was asked, “What’s a fetus?” She paused, then walked away furiously, saying that no man should ever tell a woman what to do. In other words, she refused to acknowledge that a fetus is a baby—she was in denial of basic human biology! Another young woman stopped to have a calm discussion. But what she said really lacked logic. She claimed, “It is better to let a thousand abortions occur… to let however many abortions occur that need to happen, in favor of helping the already alive children that are going to die because of a lack of vaccines, a lack of healthcare, a lack of shelter.” TFP volunteers responded that with her argument we could kill a thousand people that are already born if it’ll make her life and their life more comfortable. “No, I’m not saying that,” she protested, and refused to acknowledge that either way it would be slaughter. Both the unborn baby and the born children are alive. Over the course of the day, the young men were spit on, one received scratches, and another was hit and received a sprained wrist. At this point, the pro-abortion mob was dancing around, singing with expletives over the right to kill babies, and looking more than a bit ridiculous. The campus police actually had to call the city police because of the size of the leftist mob. Amid the craziness around him, one pro-life student stopped to say, “I think a lot of people don’t realize the horrors of abortion. You gotta respect life. I mean come on! They’re saying, ‘You’re guys, you don’t get a choice.’ Neither do the babies, apparently.” And another student brought his rosary to stand with the young men. When it was time to go, a large part of the mob followed the men, verbally harassing them all the way to their car. Friends, nothing is more self-evident: Every innocent human person – born or preborn – has the right to life. However, our culture has strayed so far from God and reason that what used to be self-evident is no longer so, particularly on left-wing college campuses where procured abortion is considered more than a right – it has been elevated and granted the status of a secular virtue. And I know of one way to change the hearts of those students you saw on those video clips today. In July of 1917, the Mother of God appeared to three shepherd children at Fatima, telling them to do sacrifice for sinners and to say many times, especially when they make a sacrifice, the short prayer “O Jesus, this is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” I can think of no better prayer than this one to console the Hearts of Our Lord and Our Lady and at the same time, to pray for a change of heart for those pro-aborts. Fatima is the answer to their rage and the coldness of their hearts. In just three days from today, Catholics celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Divine Providence, so today seems like the perfect time to tell you the true and miraculous story surrounding the devotion to Our Lady of Divine Providence. According to tradition, the story goes like this… In 1521, there lived in Fossano, Italy a man named Bartolomeo Coppa, who was disabled from birth. Up until that day, he couldn’t speak or hear. He made his poor living shepherding cattle and was generally avoided by everyone in town because of his vulgar and sloppy appearance. No one cared about his comings or goings until one day in May of 1521, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him. “Bartolomeo,” he heard his name called gently. He turned to find a lady dressed in white from head to toe approaching him. He could tell that she had the most loving maternal affection for him. So he stood there, not knowing what to do, until she blessed him. And when she blessed him, Bartolomeo was instantly and miraculously cured of all his disabilities. He could now both speak and hear. Then, Bartolomeo was given an opportunity to use his senses. Our Lady gave him the mission to preach penance to the people of Fassano. You see, so many people in that town had fallen into sin. She wanted Bartolomeo to warn them that if they didn’t do penance for their sins, a deadly scourge would come upon them. Then, she left him. Okay, back to our story. Remember, Our lady had just told Bartolomeo to warn the sinful villiagers that if they didn’t do penance for their sins, a deadly scourge would come upon them. So, Bartolomeo did as Our Lady told him to do. He went throughout the city of Fassano preaching repentance and giving the warning for three days. The people were astonished that he was miraculously cured, but still no one listened to him. So, tired and hungry, he went back to the site of the miracle. He fell asleep, and when he woke, Our Lady was there again. This time she was dressed in blue. I’m sure Bartolomeo must have felt hopeful, knowing that Our Lady had not abandoned him. She gave him three loaves of bread and asked him to preach repentance again. After eating some of the bread and giving the rest away, he went out to preach again. But this time things got worse. He was mocked and ridiculed. Six months later, in October, a sickening stench wafted through the city of Fassano. A horrible plague broke out in and around the city, leaving thousands of victims. Those who didn’t die were heartbroken over the death of loved ones, or they were fearful of catching the plague themselves. They remembered Bartolomeo’s warning about the punishment and finally decided to follow Our Lady’s requests. Though they were late, they did the works of penance and begged Our Lady’s help. In a short time, the plague was over and in thanksgiving, a small chapel was built at the site of Our Lady’s apparitions to Bartolomeo. The chapel was given the name “Our Lady of Divine Providence” because Our Lady really did provide for them in their need. Soon, pilgrims from all over visited the chapel. And the spread of the devotion to the Mother of Providence increased in 1580 when the Italian artist Scipione Pulzone painted a stunning picture which he called “Mater Divinae Providentiae” or Mother of Divine Providence. The painting was eventually given to the Barnabite priests, who built a simple shrine around it for Our Lady in Rome. Today’s true story goes like this. “Kill all babies!” a young woman cheered one day as she walked across campus at Kutztown University. She yelled that disgusting statement as she passed by a group of young men called TFP Student Action who were holding pro-life signs. TFP Student Action and America Needs Fatima work closely together on these issues. After that, students began to do and say other strange and unbelievable things. A woke student took one of the pro-life flyers the men were handing out and began to eat it. It’s not the first time that’s happen, but it never fails to confound them! But onto more serious conversations they had with the students on campus. The devil was really manifesting himself when one young woman stopped in front of TFP’s camera to wave and say, “F*** babies.” TFP answered her saying, “Life is precious, so what about life in the womb?” “F*** the life in the womb, sir,” she repeated. She affirmed over and over again that she doesn’t care that it’s life, or that the baby is human. When they pointed out that she herself survived abortion, the young woman proudly told them she got 3 abortions and thinks that she herself should have been aborted.” How sad and disturbing to see the decay of morals in our youth today. Then a young pro-abortion man stopped to talk with them. He began to compare a baby inside his mother’s womb to a tapeworm inside his truck-stop sandwich. “You have the right to remove a separate life from your body,” he said. “I did not consent to that tapeworm living inside of me.” Well, he is right about the tapeworm, but except in the case of rape, everyone consents. Besides, why punish the child for the crime of the father? Feeling as if they were pointing out the obvious, Student Action said, “Well excuse me, sir. Tapeworms are not humans.” And he responded, “A tapeworm is more sentient than a zygote. I’m talking about sentient, you’re talking about a technicality.” Well, I guess that makes you and me nothing more than a “technicality.” How sad to think of human beings in that light. Unfortunately, if one is sentient has nothing to do with being. Even a person without cognitive ability has the right to live! Then another woman came to counter-protest. She called the young men “fake Christians.” She admitted that she is Catholic as well, or should we say was Catholic, and began calling them “fake Catholics.” I was confused by this one, since real Catholics fight abortion and defend innocent life. So Student Action asked the woman if she had read what the U.S. bishops had said that day, referring to what they said about abortion being something a Catholic cannot compromise with. “Yeah,” she nodded and turned away quickly, not wanting to hear the truth. It’s hard to hear people, even Catholics, so blatantly disregard human life. Only God can soften those hardened hearts. And He wants to do it through Our Lady. The solution to the problems of today’s world lies within the Fatima message of Our Lady—that solution is the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Her message at Fatima. Our Lady’s heart is the physical symbol of her love for God and for us. And a mother’s heart is, or should be, a symbol of selfless love, capable of the greatest sacrifices. That is the heart with which Our Lady loves us, even these confused and malicious abortionists. That is the heart that softens our hearts and the hearts of people like those on the Kutztown University campus. So pray to Mary and honor her heart and you will see change. Since today is the solemnity of Saint Joseph, the husband of Our Lady, I thought this particular story seems a fitting way to honor the marriage of Our Lady and Saint Joseph. According to legend, around the year one thousand there lived in Chiusi, Italy a goldsmith named Ainerio. One day Ainerio was given a gift more precious than he at first realized—the sacred wedding ring of the Blessed Virgin Mary—a treasure indeed! This ring was given to him by a Jewish merchant of precious stones, and had been passed down through generations of that family. Well, interestingly, the merchant wanted to be rid of the ring. You see, Our Lady had appeared to him in a dream and he wasn’t willing to abandon his Jewish beliefs. So he warned the goldsmith Ainerio to venerate the ring as a holy object. But Ainerio didn’t fully believe the merchant’s story. Nevertheless, he put the ring in the family crypt for safekeeping. Fast forward a few years. Ainerio sat next to his young son who had just died. Suddenly, the deceased boy rose from his bed to reprimand his father for neglecting the precious relic. Shocked by this event, Ainerio donated the ring to the nearby convent of Santa Mustiola near Chiusi where it could be venerated publicly. The next part of our story goes like this. In July of 1473, a friar named Vinterio, originally from Germany, walked the streets of Perugia, Italy, with Our Lady’s wedding ring in his shoulder bag. Fra. Vinterio had just been in prison after being accused of stealing a gold chalice. In prison, he was ill-treated, so he could think of no better revenge than to deprive the people of Chiusi of their most cherished treasure, the Blessed Mother’s wedding ring. On July 23rd, he hid in the convent’s church until nighttime, when he stole the ring. He remained in Chiusi for six days, then before the theft could be discovered, he headed toward Assisi. When he was halfway to Assisi, he encountered a thick fog and had to stop in the nearby city of Perugia. That night as he stayed at his friend’s house, he regretted everything and even began to fear handling the relic. So Fra. Vinterio’s friend, Luca Delle Mine, gave it to the city authorities at Perugia, who gratefully accepted the relic. Pope Sixtus IV soon granted his blessing and authorized the exposition of the ring in the cathedral of Perugia. And Fra. Vinterio was later arrested for sacrilegious theft. The ring itself is made of chalcedony quartz, a semi-transparent material used in biblical times for common household objects like cups and bowls, but also for beads and rings. Being that the Holy Family was poor, it makes sense to me that Saint Joseph would use a chalcedony material for Our Lady’s betrothal ring, because it’s not as valuable as many other precious stones. And it’s interesting to note that in the 18th century, the German mystic Anne Catherine Emerich had a vision of the Blessed Virgin’s wedding ring. She saw it as iridescent, thick, and behind many locks in a beautiful church—all features that match the ring in Perugia. While we don’t have an absolute certainty that the ring in Perugia belonged to the Blessed Virgin Mary, countless miracles have occurred related to the ring. Now, pilgrims from all over the world come to pray before the relic to heal their diseases, especially eye diseases. And in a special way, engaged couples touch their wedding rings to it, praying to Our Lady for a holy and happy marriage. Consider how many people could experience a conversion of faith through Our Lady, if only they could encounter her loving and maternal message at Fatima? If you’ve never heard of the miracle of Our Lady of the Thorn, well, you wouldn’t be alone. If you’re hearing about it today for the first time, you’re in for a treat! Our story begins in the year 1400 on the night of the Feast of the Annunciation. That night in Chalons, France was a calm one. There was nothing particularly special about it, until some shepherds who were out tending their flock couldn’t help but notice a bright light coming from the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist. They couldn’t ignore this bright light. It called their attention so much, they finally they had to check it out. When they approached the chapel they found that it was actually a thorn bush fully on fire. It reminds me of the burning bush which God used to speak to Moses. Just like the bush on Mount Horeb, the flames didn’t destroy this thorn bush in France. It was on fire, but the branches and leaves of the bush were not consumed. And to the shepherds’ greater surprise, they discovered a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the midst of the flames. The statue didn’t burn or melt or break, it was completely unharmed! All night and into the next day, the shepherds kept vigil there but the fire never burned out. The news of this miracle spread and attracted crowds of people to the sight. Even the Bishop of Chalons who was Charles of Poiters, came to see for himself the miracle of the burning thorn bush and miraculous statue, which were both still unaffected by the fire. Finally, the flames dwindled until they burned out. The bishop carefully took the statue in his hands. He thought to himself, As he carried the statue to the nearby Chapel of Saint John he asked, “What sign is Our Lady giving us through this miracle?” It was decided that a church should be constructed on the site of the miracle. The people would keep the miraculous statue inside of the church. Within 24 years, the shrine was built. For a church of its size and grandeur, it was built so quickly that local legend has it the angels continued the work at night after the builders went home. The church was named Our Lady of the Thorn after the burning thorn bush and it grew in popularity so rapidly that before long it became a place of pilgrimage in France. Even Saint Joan of Arc visited the shrine when she was around 17 years old. Now it’s a minor basilica. And what a stunning church it is, with its Gothic architecture boasting of arches and spires—I mean, just look at this place—a truly worthy site to honor Our Lady! To add to the already beautiful statue of Our Lady, Pope Leo XIII ordered that the miraculous statue to be solemnly crowned. He said with fervor, “Yes, Our Lady of the Thorn will be crowned in my name. Prepare for her a diadem worthy of the Mother of God and the people whom she protects…” And to add to the first miracle that took place at the site of Our Lady of the Thorn, many people have reported that they were miraculously healed at the shrine and many of these healings have been verified by physicians. Throughout the world, Our Lady has spread her mantle of love and protection, always leading us to her Son Jesus. This is only one of hundreds or even thousands of little-known miracles of Our Lady. Okay, about that clip we saw in the beginning, here’s the full story… Well, at risk of pointing out the obvious, you just witnessed some serious failure in logic 101—and those are supposedly students of “higher education.” Let’s go over that scene one more time. The young feminist woman is speaking to a group of men called TFP Student Action, part of America Needs Fatima, who were visiting the University of Pittsburgh campus to protest the sin of abortion. They had every right to be there, but clearly, she wanted them to leave when she said, “While different opinions are very appreciated in different settings, this opinion is dangerous to people.” Student Action’s response was, “Well, it’s saving babies so I don’t see it as dangerous.” The feminist’s not-so-logical response? “Saving babies doesn’t exactly correlate to saving lives.” Unbelievable! And that is just one of the feminists they encountered. There’s more to the story than that. As Student Action chanted on the sidewalks “Defend innocent life! Pray and act to end the sin of abortion!” a pro-abortionist walked by and yelled, “Hail Satan!” Others spat at them. Still others ripped up their pro-life pamphlets and made vulgar signs, using foul language. One man couldn’t explain why he brought a transgender flag to a rally about abortion. What he didn’t want to admit was that abortion and transgenderism are linked. Instead he cursed and ran away, he had no idea what to do when someone did not agree with him. On the positive side, many students did agree with the TFP members and came to shake their hands. And when some students called the police on Student Action for filming in a public place, completely legal by the way, the police came and simply thanked all the men for what they were doing. It was also hopeful to hear from the vice-president of the pro-life club on campus, who dropped by to say they are at the highest membership they’ve ever had. But it didn’t feel that way on that eventful fall day. One young woman, with her friend at her side, at least stopped to debate with Student Action. She tried her hardest to argue that life begins not at conception, but only suddenly when a pregnant woman is 20 weeks along in her pregnancy. I’ll recap that conversation for you really quick. I think you’ll find it mind-boggling. The young feminist said, “I understand if you’re arguing against late trimester abortions…” So Student Action prompted her, “Why is late term abortion wrong?” She argued, “Because at that point, almost to the point of pregnancy, that is close to a life, because it has most of its functioning organs.” And Student Action: “So you’re going to bet somebody’s life on the words ‘it’s close to a life’?” The feminist responded, “Yeah, because before that, it’s not even conceivable to imagine that you can classify that as a life. Who would want to live like that? You can’t even survive outside of your host’s body.” “I’m pretty sure everybody here started out like that,” they pointed out. Then the young woman was asked if, “In the third trimester, when a mother hasn’t delivered yet, is that a baby?” “In her eyes, because she wants it,” she said. “But it either is a baby or it’s not.” But she insisted, “Only after 20 weeks. Ok, I’m getting tired.” With that, she left. Yes, she was tired…tired of losing. After hearing the story of what happened that day, my heart breaks for those students who are so far from the truth. But my heart breaks even more for Jesus and Mary, who are so wounded by these sins. At Fatima, Our Lady’s messages were heard by so many—and ignored by so many others… to the point that a statue of Our Lady of Fatima actually wept human tears fifty years ago in New Orleans. On February 11, 1858 in the Pyrenean village of Lourdes, France, a beautiful young lady appeared to a poor, fourteen-year-old girl named Bernadette Soubirous. (Sue-ba-roo) Bernadette and her sister were searching for firewood near the Grotto of Massabielle. Bernadette was often ill, so when her sister removed her stockings in order to wade across the river, Bernadette remained where she was. Soon, a strange silence filled the air. She turned her head towards the grotto and saw in the opening of the rock a young and beautiful lady. “The Lady” had a rosary draped over her arm. Removing her own rosary from her pocket, Bernadette knelt down and began to pray. This was the first of eighteen apparitions of the Blessed Mother to the young girl. During the sixteenth apparition on March 25, Our Lady identified herself as “the Immaculate Conception.” So Bernadette ran to her pastor’s house, repeating to herself over and over again the strange name that “the Lady” had given her so as not to forget it. At that time, the “Immaculate Conception” was not a well-known term, because just four years earlier, Blessed Pope Pius IX had proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. The notion of the Immaculate Conception was absolutely unknown to the young and illiterate Bernadette, the name that “the Lady” had given her was, to her dumbfounded pastor, more confirmation than he had ever expected. Complying with Our Lady’s request, there is now a church at the grotto. Our Lady asked that people come in procession, and persevere with prayer and personal conversion. During the ninth apparition, Our Lady asked Bernadette to kneel and wash in the spring. Confused, because there was no spring near Massabielle, she began to scratch the loose gravel off the ground inside the grotto. As she did so, a small pool formed, and she cupped her hands together and drank, and then washed her face. The next day, the pool was overflowing and water was dripping down over the rock. Countless cures, are attributed to this spring. And the shrine is considered the most visited place of pilgrimage and healing in the world—both physical and spiritual healing. The Lourdes sanctuary website says that one of these pilgrims, Catherine Latapie, experienced the very first recognized scientific and Church approved miracle at Lourdes. And here is her story. Catherine lived very close to Lourdes, only a few miles away. One day in October of 1856, she fell from a tree and damaged her right hand so critically that she suffered complete paralysis in two of her fingers. In February 1858, Catherine woke up in the middle of the night with a feeling that she was being called to go to the Grotto of Lourdes to heal her hand. Now, this was at the time when the apparitions of Our Lady to Bernadette were still happening. So, the next month, Catherine traveled to Lourdes with her children. At dawn, she met Bernadette right before the twelfth apparition and then went to the Grotto to pray. Then, she washed her hands in the spring’s water. In an instant, her hand was healed and the paralysis of her fingers gone. Nearly four years later, Catherine Latapie’s healing was officially recognized as a miracle. There are so many more stories I could tell you about miracles and cures at Lourdes, but I’m running out of time for today. I just want to leave you with one thought. While Lourdes is associated with physical healing, Saint Bernadette herself underwent a lot of suffering and illness in her life. The whole pro-life movement has been energized by the Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v. Wade. But as the euphoria fades, the reality of the fight ahead is beginning to sink in for pro-lifers. The defeat of Roe was a huge step forward, but let’s remember, it’s only a step. We’ll have to take many more steps to make America totally abortion-free and the left knows that all too well. But aside from abortion, America Needs Fatima marches for a return to moral order and the total conversion of America. As we state in our videos from previous marches and as you’ll hear here again, we march to fight for life, but also to fight against the whole culture of death, from euthanasia, to same-sex “marriage” and Hollywood liberalism. So, as promised, on to my three major reasons why Catholics still march. These reasons have their root in valuable lessons we have learned from the decades-long struggle to overturn Roe. One, Catholics have learned that things seemed impossible can be made possible by God’s grace and our efforts. Our efforts, and above all, our prayers prove that with God, all things are possible. So we must not doubt that if Roe was overturned, then so can all abortions be eliminated in our times. Two, Catholics still march because we have learned during this long struggle against Roe that the adversary is vulnerable and weak. The pro-abortion side still has an overwhelming advantage in terms of money and media; but that’s all. Its media do everything possible to support the lies of “reproductive freedom,” but these advantages are erased by the hideousness of abortion. Everything is done to try to hide its ugliness, but they have grown weak. The aging pro-abortion activists have failed to attract today’s youth to its cause. Whereas, on the pro-life side of things, we have these people fighting for our cause. Finally, a third reason why Catholics still march is that perseverance is vital to this fight. The tragic SCOTUS 1973 ruling was meant to settle the abortion issue definitively, with resistance expected to fade away. Most thought abortion would be gradually accepted. This actually happened in many European countries. But because of our persistent efforts and the efforts and prayers of thousands of Catholics and pro-lifers around the U.S., we have turned the tide. The terms of debate changed from being a women’s health issue to a moral dilemma, as it should be. Countless people have changed their minds. Every year, hundreds of thousands of protestors, most of them young people, gather annually at the March for Life. This year is no different. The March mobilizes activists nationwide and it inspires pro-lifers worldwide. So, you see, it’s crucial for America Needs Fatima and for Catholics to continue to march, because we believe that a post-Roe America must reject the entire sexual revolution, from contraception and no-fault divorce to the present LGBTQ+ agenda. One day, Mother Mariana was sitting quietly in a corner of the room, when she saw a vision of hideous monkeys approaching La Capitana, one of the nuns who was the leader of a rebellion in the convent. The mouths, eyes, and nostrils of the hideous creatures vomited fire that they poured into her heart and the hearts of her rebellious followers. Mother Mariana saw that this unhappy nun, and several of her followers, would not be saved. So Our Lord appeared to her and proposed the unimaginable—He told her there was only one way to save this soul from the eternal flames of Hell that she well deserved for her many sins: This way was for Mother Mariana to agree to suffer five years in Hell for La Capitana. Well, Mother Mariana trembled to her very core, but she accepted. Sometime later, Our Lord appeared again to Mother Mariana. He reminded her that the time had come for her to pay the price for the salvation of La Capitana’s soul. He let her know that next day, after receiving Holy Communion, as soon as the Eucharist dissolved within her, she would enter Hell. The next day, as she approached to receive her God in Holy Communion and to leave Him for five whole years, she felt like her heart would break. Soon she felt a terrible pain as if her heart had been wrenched from her chest. From that moment she became totally insensitive to God. Meanwhile, as her soul suffered all the torments of the damned, her five bodily senses were steeped in incredible torture. Her body was like a glowing ember. It burned without being consumed while she was in unspeakable pain. Her eyes beheld the most horrible infernal scenes while the most atrocious blasphemies constantly assaulted her ears. Her sense of smell was plagued by all the filth of humanity, and her sense of touch was tormented by sharp points penetrating to the very center of her body. Her palate was tortured by a horrible, unknown taste, while demons forced melted Sulphur down her throat. At the same time, the demons beat her head to the point of spilling her brains, thus inciting her to wrath and despair. Can you imagine? Soon, she lost the notion of the time and was convinced that it would be endless. She suffered all this while living her daily life in the convent. Incredibly, she never opened her lips with a single complaint to the community. Only the priest who directed her and the other foundresses knew what Mother Mariana endured. But five years later—as promised—Mother Mariana was praying when suddenly she cried out and fell as if dead. She was unconscious for a long time and then finally she opened her eyes, which filled with tears of relief. Her hell was over. She gradually recovered her color and health. Not long after, La Capitana fell sick. She confessed all her sins and died calmly, assisted by Holy Mother Church. Mother Mariana of Jesus saw the sister’s judgement, where she was shown that her salvation was owed to Mother Mariana’s five years in Hell. So, is this story a fairy-tale? An incredible allegory? No, it is all factual and true. Mother Mariana left a full written account of her life at the command of her superiors. Our Lady appeared to her several times under the title of the Mother of Good Success and made prophecies about the twentieth century which absolutely came true. So many people who are on the path to Hell could experience a conversion through Our Lady’s grace, if they only knew her message. The miraculous origins of the Virgin of the Pillar has proven to me that Our Lady rewards those who have a devotion to her. St. James was one of those people with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. In 40 AD, when he became the apostle to what is now Spain, he was having a hard time evangelizing the northern region of Zaragoza. One night, as he prayed asking for help, he suddenly beheld a great light. In the middle of it, he saw Our Lady surrounded by a multitude of angels. The interesting thing is that Mary was still living in Jerusalem at the time. But as queen of the Church, she was given the ability to see all that concerned her Son’s work. She asked Jesus’s permission to help him in a special way. So Our Lord asked His mother to go to Zaragoza. It was His desire that St. James return to Jerusalem to suffer martyrdom, but first he must build a church in Zaragoza, in Our Lady’s name, where she would be venerated for the welfare Spain. And so, a band of angels raised Our Lady on their wings and bore her through the air across the Mediterranean. Just to pause here for a moment, the story I’m telling you comes from the writings of Venerable Maria of Agreda, who was shown the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary in detail. Maria of Agreda’s work provides us such incredible insights into the real life of Our Blessed Mother. I highly recommend reading it yourself if you can! Our Lady appeared to St. James, she directed the angels to place a pillar and statue in the place where they still stand today. Then she told him that in that very place he would build a chapel, where the statue would last with the Faith until the end of the world. And to be sure the statue would remain safe until the end of time, she left an angel to guard the spot. Soon after, St. James and his disciples built a modest chapel, sixteen feet long by eight feet wide, to enclose the Virgin’s gift. With that, the church of the Pillar became the first shrine ever raised in Our Lady’s honor. Over time, the fame of miracles attributed to the Virgin of the Pillar spread far and wide. With the offerings of the many pilgrims that visited the shrine, a church was built around the column and statue, and now it’s a cathedral. And Our Lady’s word has been true! If you stand in the cathedral now and tilt your head upwards, your eyes will come to a dead halt on bombs hanging from the ceiling. Yes, those bombs were dropped there during Spain’s civil war, they hit the cathedral but never caused it any harm. And listen to this—In attempting to match the granite the pillar is made of, scientists have been able to find similar, but not identical, granite and only in other parts of the world. The statue of the Virgin is made of a material not found on this earth. And by a miraculous divine action, no dust ever settles on it, so for almost 2,000 years the statue has never needed dusting. As I mentioned before, another one of the marvels concerning this pillar is that it plunges into the earth, so that none have ever been able to find its end. The holy chapel is never unoccupied for a moment from daybreak until the doors are closed at night. This tells me Our Lady of the Pillar truly is universally loved. Okay, about that video in the beginning… When TFP Student Action visits college campuses around the U.S., they have found that nothing gets leftist students more worked up these days than a peaceful pro-life rally. Their visit to George Mason University was no different. Except some of the pro-abortion students got so wild, that they harassed and injured Kevin, one of the 20-year-old volunteers, as he prayed his Rosary for the unborn. After that happened, a student yelled, “[We’ve] got to get them back in blood!” His crime: Practicing his Constitutional Right to pray in public. The left’s reaction: The express desire to exterminate anyone who disagrees with them. But Kevin didn’t give up. He and his 12 colleagues stood their ground. The pro-abortion mob resorted to swearing, spitting, theft and physical assault. One pro-abortion man blew cigarette smoke into TFP member John’s face. But the outnumbered pro-life group refused to be bullied into silence. Let me tell you the rest of the story. You’ll have a hard time believing what these pro-abort students actually said out loud. One leftist said TFP volunteers should not have free speech rights. She yelled, “I hate you. I am not part of the tolerant Left. I am part of the intolerant Left.” At least she was more consistent than most liberals. Then, the relatively calm atmosphere was shattered when a boisterous group of pro-aborts formed in front of the TFP volunteers. They brought out their trumpet and guitars and pranced around, insulting anyone who opposed abortion. Eventually, more pro-aborts gathered, forming a mob of about 200. They screamed, “My body, my choice” over and over again. They haven’t yet figured out that—that body inside your body is not your body! One abortion advocate yelled, “I want to kill all babies.” Horrific! At least two individuals spat at TFP volunteers, and others shredded TFP flyers. One individual ate a flyer, ripping pieces off and stuffing them into his mouth; a most profound argument. Then feminists chalked abortion slogans on the sidewalk with red chalk. After they scribbled, their hands were stained red. So they mocked, saying, “This symbolizes the blood that is on your hands.” But a TFP member retorted that, “If anything, it represents the blood on pro-abortion hands that promote the murder of innocent babies.” It’s not clear why they would say we have blood on our hands when we condemn the killing of innocent children, but let’s not waste too much time analyzing their arguments with logic. Evil in never convinced that it is correct, it is driven by pure hatred of the good. And since the mob refused to engage in intellectual conversation, TFP members decided to pray the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary. Like an exorcism, the prayer angered the pro-abortion students who screamed vile insults and blasphemed against God even more. They bumped and poked TFP members and whispered taunts and lewd insults into their ears. After praying the rosary under constant harassment, it was time to leave. That’s when a burly man ripped the megaphone out of Kevin’s hand. The attacker twisted Kevin’s hand, injured his thumb, and tore his jacket and pants. Although the thief ran off with the megaphone, several TFP volunteers chased after him and retrieved it. Then the aggressor had the nerve to come back and brag about his theft. The hubris of evil knows no limits. But, it was encouraging to hear that during the chaos, several students joined the pro-life campaign and stayed with the TFP volunteers until the end and offered assistance. Overall, hearing this story gave me pause. It made me think that nothing good or enduring will ever come from the immoral Culture of Death. The abortion movement thrives on destroying innocent life and so contains the seeds of its own demise. Okay, now let’s talk about that footage you saw in the beginning…. This story is too good to not share with you. It’s almost a novel idea to promote Catholic teaching at a Catholic university, but that’s just what a group of young men called TFP Student Action did. When they visited Villanova University, they were amazed by the reactions of students at a so-called “Catholic” university concerning a new pro-transgender policy on their campus. This is a big deal, because Villanova presents itself as a Catholic institution, but has recently adopted a “Gender Inclusive Practices Guide” that contradicts the Commandments, nature and biology. It was a chilly day, but the young men stood on the sidewalks of Villanova’s campus, ready for some good debate. They held signs and chanted: “Villanova is a Catholic university! Stand up for Catholic teaching! God made them male and female!” Here’s what they encountered. Some students were actually shocked to hear that God created us male and female. One leftist student said that pedophilia would be “fine.” Another spat at the men, shouting, “You should all be dead.” Then, while the men peacefully prayed the rosary, a pro-transgender student stood in front of them and blasphemed God. During the Saint Michael Prayer, another student threw a cup of coffee at them. But there’s more. One student insisted the Catholic Church doesn’t say transgenderism is wrong. But when he was handed the Catechism, he refused to read the truth about the issue. Instead, he claimed he was intolerant of the kind of “hate” that Student Action was showing through their signs and chants. Then, just a few moments later, he said he would stand there and curse them all day if he had to. Hmm, that doesn’t sound very tolerant or loving to me. Later in the day, a male fraternity student approached Student Action. He said, “There are some men, and there are some women. And then there’s others.” He was prompted to continue. “How does that work?” “There are others,” he said. He was referring to the alphabet soup of letters associated with transgenderism. Student Action responded to him. “Answer this then. Why does every thirty-trillion of your cells in your body either tell you that you’re a man or you’re a woman? That’s the same for all people.” The student couldn’t answer that question, and so he just started to dance instead. Finally, one student insisted: “Just love everyone. That’s all.” But actually, true love is never divorced from truth. Student Action responded to that student, telling her it’s more charitable to point out the error of somebody’s ways and set them on the right path rather than make them feel comfortable living in error. And don’t forget: To admonish the sinner is a spiritual work of mercy. Just watching the footage of these debates left me saddened by the confusion of those students, and the lies they’ve been fed. Without a doubt, Student Action was caring for their souls by showing them the truth. It reminded me of Our Lady’s concern for poor sinners when she appeared at Fatima in 1917. To save the sinners, she said God wishes to establish in the world devotion to her Immaculate Heart. Then she warned that, if her requests went unheeded, World War II would break out and communism would spread its errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. You don’t need me to tell you that this has happened. And transgenderism comes out of communism, since communism as a whole denies God’s natural order. But, there’s always hope! In the end, Our Lady promised her Immaculate Heart would triumph! This will be followed by Russia’s consecration and conversion. So really, the Fatima Message is the key to stamping out the lies of transgenderism, and helping poor souls like those students find truth. Thank you for watching everyone! The Ursuline sisters had to flee their convent, which was in danger of being destroyed by the inferno. One of the sisters wrote an eyewitness account. As she herself turned to go, she was horrified to see Sister Saint Anthony, one of the old nuns, climbing the stairs. Following her, Rev. Mother discovered she was carrying a small statue of Our Lady. As the Superior watched, Sister Saint Anthony hurried to the window on the second floor. She set the statue on the sill facing the fire, then knelt and prayed with great confidence: ‘Oh Lady of Prompt Succor, save us or we are lost!’ At that very instant the wind veered and the flames were blown back over their path of destruction and soon died out.” Amazing! You see, a few years before, that same Mother Superior fell on her knees and made a vow in return for Our Lady’s help with a special intention. She promised to have Our Lady honored at New Orleans under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. And so she commissioned a statue and the devotion spread. Now, I’m particularly fascinated by the next miracle in our story. During the War of 1812, General Andrew Jackson was quickly dispatched for the defense of New Orleans, and he arrived in October 1814. Jackson stood at the head of a few thousand little-armed to unarmed men. As 1815 dawned, it became widely known that more than 8,000 of the finest British troops were preparing for an assault on the city. The British themselves were well aware of the total lack of defenses and were confident of their victory. So General Jackson personally visited the convent of the Ursulines, begging their prayers for an American victory. The night before, Father Dubourg led the city in prayer before the statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, praying for a miraculous solution. This is incredible; I wish we saw more of this kind of Catholic devotion from modern day leaders in this country. Remember, General Jackson had just finished praying to Our Lady of Prompt Succor for a miraculous victory… On January 8, 1815, the Americans readied for the assault, and as the morning dawned a dense fog covered the battlefield, but what happened next stunned the American defenders. The British soldiers began hearing conflicting orders, and in the confusion the “elite of England’s army” collided with one another. When American spies gave the signal that the British were in range, Jackson gave the order to fire. British General Packenham was unhorsed and killed early on, and no natural explanation exists for the chaos and disorder that reigned among the invading troops. The lone remaining general sounded the retreat after a mere thirty minutes of engagement. The aftermath of the battle had the defenders jumping for joy. According to numbers verified by General Jackson, more than 2,600 British soldiers lay dead or dying on the battlefield, while the Americans counted only 13. Half of the American troops never even fired a shot, and it was all said and done in only half an hour!
