I have come here to chew bubblegum and to reclaim literature from the passionless politically obsessed ghouls of academia--and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Stephen Crane is best remembered for The Red Badge of Courage, but his poem "In the Desert" is possibly my favorite of his works. Enduringly creepy and unnerving, it also conceals a deep look into human nature and, I further contend, into the descent of human consciousness.

The events discussed in "Murder of a City, Tacoma," are fascinating on their face. I also think they may have tied into one a great, secret persuasion war that raged across the United States in the late 1960s (and perhaps STILL rages).
