The Awesome Gravel Road we Took to Greyton! S1 – Ep 117
About 2km outside of Riviersonderend, there was an awesome gravel road which we took to get to Greyton. We had to stop at the single lane bridge which crossed over the Sonderend River and just enjoy the absolute beauty that surrounds this area. This road is a fantastic one to take with so many things to see like the sheep, lambs, the incredible bull with the massive horns and then finally arriving in Greyton. We took a short drive through the village just to explore. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #riviersonderend #greyton #gravelroad

Exploring Riviersonderend and the Overberg Signal Canon! S1 – Ep 116
Driving into Riviersonderend, we immediately noticed how neat the village is. There are beautiful water features and lawns as one enters towns and these create a peaceful, rural atmosphere. The church is going to have its centenary celebration in December 2022 and I was fortunate to be able to take a walk through and even speak to someone who works there. Exploring further, we found the Overberg Signal Canon on the Kleinbergie Hiking Trail. We were able to reach the canon with our car and the view from there over the whole town was spectacular. The canon was very interesting, especially noting that it was erected back in 1759 already, which blew my mind! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #riviersonderend #canon

The Gravel Road from McGregor to the Circle of Dreams! S1 – Ep 115
What a surprise we got when we took this amazing gravel road from McGregor to Stormsvlei and then on to the Circle of Dreams. The nature was awesome and not to mention the fantastic Have a Heart Equine Sanctuary. The horses were fascinated by us and they all came towards the fence. We are so happy to see places like this. Unfortunately we couldn't get to see much at Stormsvlei and at the Circle of Dreams venue but we had a great time travelling on these back roads. We hope you'll enjoy this episode with us. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #mcgregor #stormsvlei #circleofdreams

Our time in McGregor and Boesmanskloof Die Galg! S1 – Ep 114
On our arrival in McGregor, we immediately saw that this was a unique town, which we loved. Driving up the main road, we saw the gravel roads which branched out to the sides, the beautiful old buildings, restaurants and church. Not to mention the friendly people of McGregor who made us feel so welcome. Lunch was great and the stunning Temenos Garden which I walked through was absolutely breathtaking. We then left for the evening and spent the night in the mountains at Boesmanskloof Die Galg. The next morning we spent another few hours in McGregor before heading to our next destination. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #mcgregor #boesmanskloof

The Dusty Gravel Road Through Doornrivier! S1 – Ep 113
After leaving Pendennis Farm we quickly went back to Villiersdorp for some supplies before taking on the dusty gravel road through Doornrivier on our way to McGregor. What a beautiful road it was! This is such a gorgeous area to travel through, the roads are quiet and the natural surroundings truly make a person feel content. The rivers, the mountains and the dusty roads create the perfect environment for us to enjoy what we do and that is to explore! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #doornrivier #renaultkwid #gravelroad

Overnight on Pendennis Farm outside Villiersdorp! S1 – Ep 112
Being able to overnight on Pendennis farm which is just outside Villiersdorp was awesome. The cottage we stayed in was perfect not to mention having all the farm animals all around us. Our evening meal was really great, the best way to end an amazing day. The next morning the wind was blowing quite strong but we still enjoyed our coffee and mosbolletjies while we sat on the porch listening to the farm animals being fed and watching the beautiful sunrise. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #villiersdorp #pendennis #farm

Exploring Villiersdorp and the Theewaterskloof Dam! S1 – Ep 111
Driving along the road to the dam and seeing this huge mass of water was awesome. I knew that the Theewaterskloof Dam was Cape Town’s main water source but had no idea that it was the seventh largest dam in South Africa. From there, we went to explore the town of Villiersdorp and saw two beautiful old churches. We were struck by how quietly beautiful the streets were as we took a drive through the suburb. They were lined with massive established trees and the autumn colours just painted the perfect picture. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #theewaterskloofdam #villiersdorp

Over Viljoen’s Pass to the Theewaterskloof Dam! S1 – Ep 110
As we were going over Viljoen’s Pass between Grabouw and Villiersdorp we came across the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve. They let us in for a short drive to the Reception area just to have a look around. We couldn’t do the hikes but I think it would be stunning to walk across those mountains. Then it was time to head towards the Theewaterskloof Dam, but we had to navigate our way down the Viljoen’s Pass and what a fabulous view it was from there! A surprise was the gravel road we found along the way and it was really a fun drive. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #viljoenspass #hottentotsholland #naturereserve

Visiting the Town of Grabouw in Apple Country! S1 – Ep 109
Stopping at the top of Sir Lowry’s Pass to start this trip was fantastic. A short drive later and we were in the town of Grabouw. Visiting this area which is well known in South Africa as being apple country was a good decision. We drove through the town looking for interesting places. The old Jailhouse and the Harris Bros building dating back to 1906 were awesome. We had a delicious breakfast and then departed Grabouw. While we were parked next to a dam just outside of town, two friendly gentleman came to fly their racing pigeons. What a show that was! So interesting and so much fun, we've never seen that before. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #grabouw #applecountry

A Fantastic Visit to the Franschhoek Motor Museum! S1 – Ep 108
We had a good rest and left Le Grec Apartments in Franschhoek quite early. We were told by a local about the Franschhoek Motor Museum and that it would be worth a visit. So we decided to do it. Visits to the museum are by appointment only and we were fortunate to get in at short notice. I love cars and specifically these fantastic older and classic cars. This episode is longer than our usual episodes. Enjoy. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #pass #franschhoek #renaultkwid #franschhoekmotormuseum

The Stunning Franschhoek Pass, a Fantastic Surprise! S1 – Ep 107
We tried to get in at the Huguenot Monument but unfortunately it was closed. We were still able to see what it looked like from the perimeter though. We drove further towards the mountain and happened upon the Franschhoek Pass and what a stunning pass it is! This was a fantastic surprise! The views from the top and on your way to the top is breathtaking. At the top is the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve with hiking trails I would love to do some day. Fynbos Leopards can be found here, now one of those I would just love to see! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #pass #franschhoek #renaultkwid #huguenot

An Early Lunch at the Franschhoek Village Market! S1 – Ep 106
On our way to Franschhoek we stopped off at the Groot Drakenstein Prison to see the statue of Nelson Mandela. This is where he spent the last 14 months of his prison term before being released in 1990, Then on arriving in Franschhoek we saw that the Village Market was in full swing. We walked around and enjoyed an early lunch. The vibe was fantastic, so it was great fun. We Spent a Relaxing Evening at Hanna in Wellington! S1 – Ep 105
What a relaxing evening we spent at Hanna when we arrived in Wellington. It was awesome to have some luxury after being off the grid for so many days. The next morning, on our way out of Wellington, we spotted the General Hertzog plaque. It was fascinating to learn that he was born in Wellington in 1866. He was the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1924 to 1929. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #wellington #renaultkwid

Arriving in Wellington and the Andrew Murray Church! S1 – Ep 104
What an interesting town Wellington is. Very busy, but it has a lot of history. Arriving at the Andrew Murray Church, I was very lucky to get a guided tour with the groundskeeper, Jannie, who has worked at the church for 23 years and know the history well. What a lesson I got in the history of this church. Afterwards we went to the Jubilee Park with the coronation arch, commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902. Queen Victoria passed away in January 1901 and her son Prince Edward became the new King. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #wellington #andrewmurray #renaultkwid

Amazing Blockhouses at the Wolseley Railway Bridges! S1 – Ep 103
We were so disappointed when we saw that the Bainskloof Pass was closed, but we had the opportunity to visit Wolseley because of that, which was fantastic. What a lovely town! We also were very lucky to see the blockhouses the British built close to the railway bridges. It was very interesting to see the history of these structures. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #blockhouse #wolsley #renaultkwid

Talking to Two Hikers doing the Tankwa Camino! S1 – Ep 101
As we left Zwartkop Guest Farm, we immediately caught up with some of the hikers doing the Tankwa Camino. After talking to two of them, Tanya and Kate, you can see they thoroughly enjoyed this experience. 256 km from Calvinia to Ceres, amazing! The organisers set up camp every evening, provide water every 5 km and the evening meal, but the hikers pitch their own tents and make their own breakfast and lunch. This is going on my bucket list for sure! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #karoo #tankwakaroo #zwartkop #renaultkwid #tankwacamino #calvinia #ceres

Abandoned buildings in the Tankwa Karoo at Uintjiesbos! S1 – Ep 99
After descending the Gannaga Pass we came across the amazing abandoned mud buildings in the Tankwa Karoo National Park at a place called Uintjiesbos. I had to stop and explore these beautiful old structures. I really do hope that they get a second lease on life. There was a back-and-forth conversation with a donkey on this gravel road too. Further down the trail we came across the Tankwa Farm Stall which was rather unique. It even has its own giant flying saucer! Then, we saw some hikers doing the Tankwa Camino Hiking Trail before arriving at our accommodation for the evening. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #karoo #tankwakaroo #uintjiesbos #renaultkwid #tankwacamino

Going down the Gannaga Pass in the Tankwa Karoo! S1 – Ep 98
Going down the Gannaga Pass was absolutely fantastic and so exciting! This pass is in the Tankwa Karoo National Park and is a must visit if you are in the area. Driving down was a real treat, especially with all the rain that washed out the gravel road. It was slow going, but the views from this pass were stunning. I must say the Renault Kwid was amazing on this road, we even passed a large 4x4 which had a flat tyre, but we arrived at the bottom with no casualties whatsoever. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #karoo #tankwakaroo #gannagapass #renaultkwid

What a fantastic welcome to Oupoort by the donkeys! Also the history about the original farmer was very interesting, but also very sad. The beautiful Gravel Road through the Great Karoo! S1 – Ep 95
Turning off the road from Williston to Middelpos was exciting. This area had so much rain over the past few months and we never knew what the condition of these gravel roads were like, but we took the chance and what a successful trip we had. Coming over the hill and seeing the beautiful vast expanse of the Great Karoo appear in front of us was stunning, not to mention the dams of water everywhere. The Karoo is a dry area and to see so much water is amazing. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #middelpos #karoo

Drove through Williston and checked into Karoohuis! S1 – Ep 94
When we returned from the corbelled houses, we drove through the streets of Williston. It was interesting to see the large stands and loved that some roads between the houses were still gravel. Then we checked into our accommodation at Karoohuis. We just relaxed that evening, so that we could get an early start. The next morning. we had breakfast and bought some famous Karoo lamb for the braai that evening. Then it was time to look for gravel roads heading in the direction of Middelpos. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #williston #mannarestaurant #southafricavlog #amandelboom #karoohuis #corbelledhouse #middelpos
