We are going to be challenging ourselves with a poll that was taken by one of the more prominent Protestant ministries in our country. The State of Theology was performed by Ligonier Ministries in 2022 with 35 statements made to the individual, and asking if the statement is true or false. We are going to take a look at each of these statements and see what we can learn about the study of God by institutional Christianity. So, Theology, the study of God! What have we learned? In the past two thousand years we have concluded with our study that you cannot comprehend, understand, or hold the knowledge of God. Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. So, why do we continue in the study of God? What are the doctrines that have been shown to us that will manifest in mankind that which may be known of God? How many Dogmas have been set in place to dictate the course of the believer? But to what end? Is this not the question? We have abandoned our pursuit of the truth relating to being in the image and likeness of our Father for the pursuit of Christian theology. Will we repent? Do we need theology? How many people know what theology is, let alone, know what it means, or if it is important to life? I recently came across a poll taken on the “State of Theology”, taken by Ligonier Ministries. With the cultural crisis facing mankind since the advent of Jesus, Christianity continues to confuse the issues, with theology being one of them. How many people think of theology when they think of Jesus? I would venture to guess, not many. Theology is a construct of mankind for the purpose of setting themselves in a place of authority above others. Defining for the masses what they should believe concerning Jesus, based on their interpretation of the biblical narrative. In the current climate Christianity is watching the world around us grow more and more violent in support of their faith. In the true definition of the word faith from its etymology or biblical foundation, how many people are truly convinced of what they are supporting, no matter the ideology? We are witnessing people around the world claiming faith in ideologies with no knowledge or understanding of what they are about. I believe we are at a place where very few people understand what we call faith, or how to believe (support) what they know. In these two words we find the difference between the ancient Eastern and modern Western world. What I mean by ancient Eastern is that of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. What I mean by modern Western is that of the whole of western civilization developed through Christianity. We also need to consider that these two words are not exclusive to these two concepts alone, but also the language of the cultures that surrounded them when Jehovah set his course of reconciliation. We would like to think that these two words mean one and the same thing, and within their perspective languages do not. The biblical narrative has been and is still the most impressive literary accomplishment in the history of mankind. Being sustained over thousands of years, not necessarily for the right reasons, but nevertheless sustained. Our reliance on this narrative has been good and it has its negatives, it is a guide, and it has been used to suppress knowledge. It has been used in the affairs of government and continues to be used by men to govern mankind. I believe it is one of the most misunderstood literary books in the history of mankind. It has been used by two different cultures to further their own ideas of existence on the earth to create kingdoms and nations and their own purpose. All it takes to understand this incredible narrative is repentance. To let go of the rebellion that changed the existence of mankind from life to death. Will we accept the correction of truth, reconcile our relationship, and be restored to the family. Here in the United States Christian Theology is a mixed bag of teachings from the Reformation that have denominated into what we see today. Dispensational theology is one such form that dominates this current Christian culture. Everyone is looking for the anti-Christ and the mark of the beast, but Paul wrote many centuries ago, that anti-Christ was already in the world. How do we reconcile what Paul said with the current ideology of Christianity? What did Jehovah mean by this statement toward mankind? This is part of the overall narrative in which the Father gave an express command for mankind and his purpose on the earth. In 1976 Francis A. Schaeffer wrote a book and made a ten part documentary series on this book, titled, “The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture: How Should We Then Live? I have read this book a couple of times and we are going to discuss this over the next few weeks as I believe it is a useful tool concerning history and the current attitudes of society. I was reading the headlines in two online Christian magazines, and I ask the question, do we understand faith? Is there hope? What is love? Where did the good news (gospel) go? The institution of Christianity focuses on three forms or what they call the gospel, political, terror, or prosperity, or a combination of all or two of the three. Jesus has taken a back seat to our current institutional leaders and faith, hope and love has become skewed by the knowledge of good and evil. The statement following ‘Mystery’ is ‘The Great’! So, what does this mean and how can we understand this name written on the forehead of this woman. There is another problem that we have with what we read here. Why is the representation of this abomination in the form of a woman? We read this in the account of John’s revelation from Jesus, and the messenger’s sent to John. First, to record the message to the called out in seven cities in Asia Minor, and make sure they received the information. What we see following this information is the consequence of not following the instruction sent to the seven congregations. Five of these congregations were shown the issues that were a cause for concern and told to repent. There were two congregations that were praised and exhorted to continue in the way even in the face of the persecution. So what do we know, and what do we hear? Why does tradition hold such power? When we read the accounts of Jesus written by those who followed him and Luke, who worked with Paul throughout the Mediterranean, we find something curious. We are heading to one of two high holy days in Christianity. This particular holy day features the death of Jesus, which is called a sacrifice. While many of the older generation in the Protestant and Evangelical denominations hold to the traditions. Many of the younger generations are moving away from the traditions of the Christian faith. Yet, no matter your view on traditions this week will be observed even by the CEO’s. There are Christmas and Easter only Christians in every form and denomination of Christianity. Each institution has its own form of salvation, but from what? What is mankind seeking? In the world today the institutions of faith have become the ideological manifestations of the socio-economic constructs of democracy, socialism, or progressivism. The old institutions are either being phased out or being recycled into one of the three forms of socio-economic constructs. How can this be true? Look no further than the 17th century and the death of God, as Nietzsche so aptly describe. For many years now here at Inside The Faith Loop we have talked about the transgression or its true translation, “the rebellion”, of the Genesis narrative. This is an understanding of the narrative that has been lost to the institutions of faith that have been created by mankind throughout the world. This includes the most populated institutions today, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism, not to mention one of the least populated, Judaism. Mankind has been looking for salvation for as long as we have recorded history, but salvation from what? We have said this for some time now and we want to give some credit when we get things right. Why can’t we leave the paganism out and focus on the good news of Jesus the Anointed. We are coming upon one of the high holy days of Christianity, and the stores will be filled with candy and ways to color eggs. This to glorify the bunny as we focus more on the ritual and the paganism than we do on Jesus and why he came into the world. We are living in the abstract, where words define reality based upon whatever we want to be true. We have begun to hear this refrain concerning Christianity and the conservative political groups referred to as Nationalists. This is to engender in the population that Christianity has become nationalistic or fascist and beginning to link Christianity to the Nationalist parties of Germany and Italy. Changing the dialogue once again to fit the narrative of the knowledge of good and evil. We were called out of this war for knowledge and we must continue to preach the message of repentance for the remission of missing the mark. When you ask this question, you will get different answers depending upon the social construct of the individual you ask. The question then becomes how do we let go of the ologies we have created, whether secular or spiritual, to remove ourselves from the knowledge of good and evil? Removing ourselves from the war of good and evil is a very difficult task for us. Admitting what we have created on the earth as a matter of existence is wrong. We are all looking for the truth, let alone the ability to understand what is true. But the governments of kingdoms and nations have pursued the answer to this question through the ages. The problem is the pursuit has been through the knowledge of good and evil. Do we know what is real anymore? Who is telling the truth? The media circus continues to bring us the facts, right? With so much media today how do we understand how to sift through all the noise? I believe we have come to a place in society where we have become so fragmented and divided by the knowledge of good and evil, we cannot see the truth. Have we become willing participants of the play? How do you remove the static so you can hear the truth? I would venture to guess that the majority of Christians in America or even around the world do not know what’s at the foundation of why they believe as they do. We are fed a steady diet of the devil is coming to get you, and a political rhetoric meant to engage people into determining the governing of a nation. Christianity in its different forms in the world hold different ologies!! This idea of understanding the gods is very old. The “how” is the part that gets cloudy and usually very vague. Faith has become the buzz or catch word for this thought process! You just have to believe! Believe WHAT!!
