Spring marks the time when thunderstorms (convective cumulonimbus clouds) become more active. These short clips show mammatus clouds and telephoto time lapse of these beautiful cloud structures.

These unique clouds are common over the western edge (lee side) of mountain ranges.

Everyone knows that the sky is blue (day) or black (night) but it can take on the colors of the rainbow when atmospheric optics are at play. This short slide show used my best images/videos and shows the many other colors that can occur. Iridescent clouds, rainbows, and multi-color northern lights are depicted. Enjoy!

Best examples of distant thunderstorms (thunderheads) mostly taken from Cheyenne, Wyoming 2015-2020.

Taken between 2011-2020 at various locations at I lived at. Very few summers in the western states escape weeks of smoke filled skies. Weather satellite reveals that there are often several large wild fires occurring at the same time. In 2020, nearby fires were still visible in early November!

Recently, I was asked what my favorite images were. Clearly, I was forced to think about why I absolutely love some shots more than others. The answer is actually complicated. Here’s my take: My best photos must meet the following criteria: 1. Well executed image & post-processing In focus (most important) In frame (subject-theme is obvious) Realistic (not exaggerated) Contrast (eye catching) 2. Capture the unusual, rare, unexpected 3. Think outside the box by seeing another layer of shapes, shadows, colors 4. Use of best focal-length or panorama 5. Stack and/or lighten, darken frames when appropriate 6. The photo evokes great memories Enjoy!
