Henna Maria discusses how in large demos such as the recent freedom convoy, the activist must be aware that trauma can occur due to the way the event is policed. She discusses the importance of consciously deciding in such circumstances that peaceful retreat is an equally valid and legitimate option. She gives examples of how police re-enforcement is often contracted in from other jurisdictions and that this can lead to a natural communication barrier due to language differences etc. It also leads to less personal responsibility for the one in the policing role because they are not part of the community the person is there to police and have no ties to the consequences of any brutality or violence that is inflicted upon members of that community. She also elaborates on how another barrier between the activist and officer is created due to the increasingly armoured way police is presenting in these situations and this also leads to a complete dehumanizing of both the officer from the demonstrator’s point of view and vice versa for the police officer. Having been part of many large demonstrations herself, Henna goes on to discuss how smaller demonstrations can actually be a more effective way of dialoguing with police because fewer people to police can also mean fewer officers and this often leads to a more cohesive environment for dialogue and understanding to take place. She also adds that larger demonstrations can be very easily manipulated and infiltrating by other, non-benevolent interests. Henna addresses collaboration with police as individual officers and human beings is crucial for a demonstration to proceed successfully and peacefully. She elaborates on how when active police officers form part of the demonstration they are well-positioned to be able to dialogue with duty police officers present and both sides are better equipped to deescalate any potential issues that arise.

In this video Rajie talks with former PC Party caucus member, MPP Rick Nicholls who tells us about his removal from the Ontario PC Party caucus over his vaccination status as well as raising the overall dangers with vaccine passports. MPP Nicholls opens up about how, after he made a personal choice not to take the COVID-19 vaccine, he was expelled from the party caucus. He now sits as an independent MPP who stands firmly, both by his own choice as well as the right of others to be able to choose whether or not to get vaccinated. In his candid interview with Rajie, MPP Nicholls talks about the split in society being caused by the vaccine passports. He expresses serious concerns that the mandates are leading down a slippery slope, where one group of people get the privileges that come with their double-vaccinated status whilst the other group is punished by being unable to participate fully in society. MPP Nicholls further raises that being double-vaxxed is only the beginning and with the upcoming boosters, once introduced, there could no end to the reach of vaccine passports. Rajie and MPP Nicholls discuss the unintended consequences of jurisdictions introducing vaccine mandates which could lead to a crisis in many frontline areas from healthcare and policing to firefighting as a significant number of frontline professionals are forced to walk away from their careers due to their vaccination status. In this video, Rajie talks to Adrienne Gilvesy, an active-duty Toronto Police Officer, as well as her lawyer Rocco Galati. They discuss the jurisdiction and overall duty of police officers to enforce COVID health regulations that directly violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and question where things are headed. Officer Gilvesy has been a Toronto Police Officer for twelve years and as a senior officer in the Major Crimes Unit. She quickly began to feel uncomfortable as her unit was called upon in the early days of the pandemic to enforce COVID mandates that she knew breached the Charter. Health regulations have continued to change frequently, sometimes as often as every week. Officer Gilvesy comments that many officers have had little else to rely upon than the premise that they are ‘just doing their job’ in the application of oppressive and over-reaching rules they are given to implement. In the video, Rocco raises some serious concerns surrounding a lack of police neutrality as enforcers of the rule of law. He explains how the pandemic has been heavily politicized, and challenges the duty and jurisdiction of police officers in their enforcement of health regulations. Rajie goes on to clarify the role of police officers, (also known as ‘peace officers’) and questions whether officers are able to uphold the sanctity of their oath in relation to the many obvious Charter breaches that have occurred in enforcing COVID health regulations since March 2020. Officer Gilvesy concurs about Charter breaches and cites that many officers fear the repercussions of speaking out, including money as a factor, where off-duty officers are paid extra in overtime. Rocco warns about the possible lawlessness that can arise when everyone from government officials to bar owners take the law and its’ interpretation into their own hands. He also raises the dangers of creating a two-tier society through vaccination status. Rocco points out that the rule of law is currently being used an instrument of oppression instead of being delineated by parameters such as the constitution and natural God-given rights. Rajie raises the question of choice, where unvaccinated people are often told that they have a ‘choice’ to go get vaccinated to fully access society and employment. Rocco clarifies the inherent coercion that lies in this approach. Officer Gilvesy reveals that the Toronto Police Service is using the same coercion tactics on its’ officers internally whereby everything from gym privileges to paid overtime duty is now no longer available to unvaccinated officers or those who do not disclose their status. She talks about how the most basic right, that of bodily integrity, is not being upheld or even recognized. Officer Gilvesy shares how she found her inner strength to be able to speak up and against her employer. She clarifies that police should be impartial and apolitical as each officer is an independent agent of the Crown and should not be open to interference from politicians as they have been. She also talks with Rajie about her fear as to how the current political climate and the resultant application of the mandates is edging society closer to a state of medical apartheid. Rocco clarifies how interference from government officials into how the police does its’ job is a chargeable criminal offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and also an obstruction to justice. The Doctors joined us at the WHM Studio to discuss ALL HARMS being currently caused in public health and where we go from here. ----- Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill is the President and Co-Founder of Concerned Ontario Doctors. She is a passionate advocate for accessible healthcare, and the protection of basic human rights and fundamental freedoms. She has represented the interests of Ontario’s and Canada’s patients and frontline physicians at Queen’s Park, the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada to advise on healthcare policy. Dr. Gill is a frontline physician practicing in the Greater Toronto Area. She completed her undergraduate, medical and post-graduate training in microbiology, pediatrics, and allergy and clinical immunology at the University of Manitoba and the University of Western Ontario with her research with Dr. Frank Plummer at the Public Health Agency of Canada’s only Level 4 National Microbiology Laboratory focusing on HIV-1 vaccine development. Dr. Patrick Phillips Dr. Patrick Phillips completed his medical training at Dalhousie University and his family medicine residency at the University of Toronto. He has worked in addictions medicine in Toronto and throughout rural Ontario as a locum physician. Dr. Phillips is currently an emergency medicine and family physician in Englehart, Ontario, and a passionate advocate for his patients and frontline colleagues. Dr. Ashvinder Lamba Dr. Ashvinder Lamba was born and raised in Newfoundland, and obtained her BSc from the University of Victoria, MSc in Biochemistry from SFU, and MSc in Genetic Counselling from McGill. She returned to Newfoundland to attend medical school at Memorial University, and completed residency in Family Medicine at McMaster. She currently has her own family medicine practice in Brampton where she practices low risk obstetrics, as well as long term care, palliative care, and addictions medicine in other regions of the GTA. Dr. Lamba is a Board Director of Concerned Ontario Doctors and actively advocates for the interests of patients and frontline physicians. Are you looking forward to watching this?
