Trump’s allies also likely want to turn the FBI* the nation's top law enforcement body into a political tool, nine people involved in the effort told Reuters. The two-fold plan of Trump’s allies intends to "purge" the US Department of Justice, hoping to eliminate checks on power. Many of the FBI’s responsibilities would also be shifted to other law enforcement agencies, as per the officials who Reuters interviewed. Some experts believe Trump and his allies are laying the groundwork to contest a potential loss in the 2024 presidential elections in November.
