Motivation 101: How to Stay Motivated Everyday

Do you struggle with lack of motivation? Do you often feel lazy or just put off your workouts when you know you shouldn't? Today I'll show you how to stay motivated forever.

Now let's take a look at why you lack motivation, and what you can do about it.

I would like to begin this by letting you know that motivation is not something you're going to have before every workout. It's imperative that you know that. Motivation is actually not something you're born with. It is something you earn. How can you earn motivation? Must you make a sacrifice to the gods? Are motivational videos required prior to working out? The answer is no.

It's going to take three things. The first is a system. The second is your environment. Additionally, you can earn motivation by doing a small amount of physical activity to get your heart rate up.

Let's discuss earning motivation before discussing the system and the environment. Motivation is given to you at the 10 minute mark of a solid warmup. It may come earlier. Motivation may also come later. Allow me to give you an example. When I have to work out today and I want to work my chest, shoulders, and triceps, most people are gonna assume, wow, he must be excited to work out. I cannot wait! But that isn't the case. One out of ten times, I am motivated to work out. Zero motivation.

With a slight warmup, it doesn't need to be intense. As you can see, the treadmill right behind me, right there, has an incline of nine, a speed of about three miles per hour, I'm standing on it for about 10 minutes, and I'm getting my heart rate up.

As soon as my heart rate reaches that certain level, as soon as I feel all the warmth in my body, all of a sudden I'm filled with motivation. Now, your beliefs about yourself are the next step. I will be mentioning a lot of these points from the book "Atomic Habits".

One of the main things you need to do is change your perception about yourself, because right now you might have a goal of, "Okay, I'd like to lose 10 pounds.". You wanting to lose 10 pounds isn't going to get you to exercise or to eat a salad or to eat chicken breasts or to drink enough water. The key is to change your thinking about who you need to become to be that guy 10 pounds down the road. What you will realize is that you have to visualize yourself as an athlete who is able to do this sort of thing. I guess a person who is 10 pounds leaner, that has a lot more cuts, maybe you have a four pack, six pack, maybe you can see your veins, would look like.

You may have gained 10 pounds of muscle. From the moment they wake up to their breakfast, lunch, dinner, exercise habits, diet habits, and preparation, what would they be doing on a daily basis?

Secondly, you need to write down exactly what you will do to motivate yourself to work out. I recommend writing it down. You must write out the habits that person will achieve, and all of a sudden it will click. And for some reason, those sort of things, like getting up at a certain time, like preparing your food, like eating healthy, like going to work out is going to seem a lot more appealing because you've identified that these are the dead necessities that are required for me to achieve a certain physique.

You will think, okay, I'm going to start waking up at 5:00 AM and going for a two mile run as soon as I get home, and I'm going to drink a smoothie when I get home.

You've never done all of these things and now you're trying to incorporate habits from a different type of persona into your current sense of self, which is still the same guy that you are today. As for your self-belief, it is likely someone that says, yeah, you know, I kind of skip my workouts, I don't eat that well. This is why it's important for you to change your self-belief, instead of being that person that originally consistently failed to the self-belief of the person of all those habits that you wrote out. This way, when you start to implement those habits, there's not going to be a conflict of interest, and you're not going to stop doing those things after a few days.
