Li Hongbo creates amazing sculptures out of stacked sheets of paper
The idea for these sculptures comes from traditional Chinese paper decorations and toys
Each bust comprises roughly 7,000 to 26,000 sheets of white paper
They are glued together into a honeycomb structure which gives the sculpture added stability
The process is painstakingly done by hand, sheet by sheet
The sculptures are made up of numerous stacks of glued paper, Li glues around 350 sheets into a stack then cuts out the rough shape with a wood working saw
Small sculptures will only need a few stacks of glued paper where larger ones may demand 40 - 50 stacks
After the stacks are in place he will use an angle grinder to fine tune the sculpture
Once the majority of the form is complete Li will use sandpaper to smooth and complete the sculpture
Each sculpture can take months to complete
Li has been featured in exhibitions since 2007 and has been gaining popularity year after year
