Tupolev Tu-22M (Russian: уолев у-22M; NATO reporting name: Backfire) is a long-range supersonic strategic and maritime strike bomber created by the Tupolev Design Bureau.

The aircraft was once thought to be labeled Tu-26, according to certain sources.

The Tu-22M was used by the Soviet Air Forces (VVS) as a missile carrier strategic bomber and by the Soviet Naval Aviation (Aviacija Vojenno-Morskogo Flota, AVMF) as a long-range maritime anti-shipping aircraft during the Cold War.

The Russian Air Force still uses a large number of Tu-22Ms, with more than 100 in service as of 2014.
