Dr. Phillip Alvelda: The Future of Neural Interface, DARPA BiT

Dr. Phillip Alvelda, Program Manager in DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office (BTO),
discusses the potential of next-generation neural interfaces to improve quality of life for people and revolutionize how we engage with machines.
The talk was part of a two-day event held by BTO to bring together leading-edge technologists,
start-ups, industry, and academic researchers to look at how advances in engineering and information sciences can be used to drive biology for technological advantage.

"This isn't quite ready to put in a human yet.
So this is where DARPA comes in.
What is the next type of system to replace the discrete optics with CMOS style color filters just with process layers?
We're taking what used to be discrete optics and miniaturizing them and planarizing them whether it's a lens fit to focus or even in the middle of
Michael Watson's work from MIT where we're making these active emitters so not only could we sense an image,
what's happening in the brain,
we could write to it and cause neurons to fire. We could stimulate the brain as well..."
