In popular culture, UFOs most commonly denote an unidentified flying object, whose appearance is tied to the visit of intelligent beings to Earth. A number of individuals, including officials and scientists, are doubtful about the possibility of such visits, believing UFOs are an unusual natural or aerospace occurrence. Conversely, certain former officials, military members and astronauts, upon leaving service, turn into public supporters of the alien origin of UFOs.
