Placebo mastectomy is all the rage right now. Starting in middle school, or younger, young women are being told that if they feel apprehensive about puberty, it is a sign that they were born into the wrong body, and need to undergo radical amputation to achieve a cosmetic resemblance, through clothes, to a male. It is presented as a mild and even reversible intervention to treat the otherwise constructed as untreatable mental anguish of 'gender dysphoria.' In this episode, I look at various times when it has been less than halcyon for these mastectochists. As a foreword, I will again revisit Judith Butler's neoplatonist beliefs surrounding the sexed nature of the soul.
