Off camera the deaf man told me that the police had refused to take their face masks off when talking to him, even though it was obvious he was completely deaf. As a consequence, he had no idea what they were saying to him, and could have been threatening him with arrest for all he knew.
This behaviour on the part of the police was, and is, in direct contravention of the advice readily available on the government website regarding masks. Here it clearly states that emergency service workers, including the police, should not wear masks when dealing with the public, as it impedes communication.
Basically they have been breaking the rules for the last year, while arresting others for breaking the rules.
