Wisconsin Names Special Counsel For Election 2020, 3649

Good evening, I’m still reporting on the coup.
After 20 months of footdragging, the state of Wisconsin has decided to investigate the 2020 elections in their state.
Wisconsin already has an election audit underway under the Legislative Audit Bureau. Perhaps the auditors found evidence of criminality and so now the State’s top Republican has bent to pressure to name a “Special Counsel” to investigate.
I’m not sure how it works at the state level, but it seems likely that naming a Special Counsel has more criminal implications than just conducting an audit. That would mean that the evidence of wrongdoing must be significantly stronger, yet less conclusive than impaneling a grand jury.
Retired Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman has been appointed as Special Counsel by House Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.
Vos explained in a statement today:
“To restore full integrity and trust in elections, we have decided to change direction, giving more authority and independence to Justice Gableman.”
“I am declaring him Special Counsel and am giving him the authority to hire more full-time investigators who will work at his direction.”
“If he thinks he needs one person, great. If he thinks he needs half a dozen, great.”
Speaker Vos said that both investigations should wrap up by the Fall.
As in other states, Democrats immediately attacked Vos. According to Wisconsin Democratic Party executive director Nellie Sires:
“The fact will remain that the 2020 election was free, fair, and conclusive. It’s time for the Speaker to end the charade and start telling the truth.”
However, President Trump has blasted Vos as well – but for not doing enough in a timely fashion.
Trump has been asking Vos to conduct an audit similar to the one just completed in Maricopa County, Arizona.
In late June, Trump blasted Wisconsin’s Republic leadership.
“Wisconsin Republican leaders Robin Vos, Chris Kapenga, and Devin LeMahieu, are working hard to cover up election corruption, in Wisconsin.”
Trump warned at that time that should they fail to act:
“I have little doubt that they will be primaried and quickly run out of office.”
Of course, threatening to run a career politician out of power is a significant threat, so Vos has apparently acted.
However, under these circumstances, it is not likely that significant wrongdoing will be uncovered by the new Special Counsel.
I’m still reporting from the soon-to-be-restored citadel of world freedom. Good day.
