Why the Torah and the Jewish Bible do not directly mention life after death (Chaim Ben Pesach)

The concept of eternal life for the righteous is a central tenet of Torah Judaism. So why is there no direct mention or description of life after death and the World to Come in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) or the Tanach (the Jewish Bible)?
