How can Biblical time of creation align with observational data?

I struggle with the idea that to make the Bible align with science we have to make time "elastic" and stretch the days of creation to the point of ridiculousness in order to make timing of the Bible align with clear scientific observational data.... There just must be another way to look at it, and this video quickly details one idea.
