Citizen Uncovers Massive Gas Cloud Above Earth!
Do Not Panic!
Astronomers Are Tracking It.
It is a massive cloud of potentially explosive Hydrogen Gas. We don't know its origins, but hot blue stars are attracted to it.
It is in the sky tonight. You can't see it, but it is there.
Sh2-86 is about the size of the Full Moon, but it is so faint that you can't see it without a telescope and camera.
The following slide shows just how difficult it is to see it. We had to keep the camera's shutter open for 10 long minutes, but even that wasn't enough. We captured 13 more exposures and added them together over a period of 2.3 hours. Finally, it revealed the immense scale of it!
Citizen astronomers are needed to help the professionals. If you are interested, please comment. All questions will be answered!
