(From Pete’s desk)

We recently had a message from a young mum asking for our assistance.

Her boy Silas is getting behind at school and has trouble focusing.

She is under pressure from school as well as relatives, to have him diagnosed, so they can start medicating him with Ritalin. (Ritalin is similar to Speed or Methamphetamine)

Can you relate to this?

We all know that ADHD is on the rise.

First, I want to tell you that a diagnosis is nothing but a label. And once your child has a label, it tends to stick!

What Is ADHD? (According to American Psychiatric Association)

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults.

Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting), and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).

An estimated 8.4% of children and 2.5% of adults have ADHD.

ADHD is often first identified in school-aged children when it leads to disruption in the classroom or problems with schoolwork.

It can also affect adults.

It is more common among boys than girls.

ADHD is diagnosed as one of three types: inattentive type, hyperactive/impulsive type or combined type.

A diagnosis is based on the symptoms that have occurred over the past six months.

8.4% of children are labeled with ADHD, and many of those take Ritalin.

Often the child will be forced to take this drug till he or she is 16 when the prescription comes to an abrupt halt.

The child is now an 'adult' and supposed to be out of the woods, as far as ADHD is concerned, but it comes as a huge shock to the brain and nervous system.

The young adult suffers from withdrawal symptoms at best or a lifelong medical dependency at worst.

No wonder Grace, the young mum, was keen to discover natural ways to help Silas so she made an appointment.

Grada and I have seen thousands of children at our facilities and we know how to get to the bottom of these issues very quickly.
