Misinformation And Disinformation: What's The Difference? Unlisted Video
On social media, it's frighteningly easy to unwittingly spread both misinformation and disinformation. But which is which?
According to Business Insider, misinformation is just information that's incorrect, false, or wrong. For example, the idea that 5G networks cause cancer.
People often post and forward articles making such claims, even though it's been proven that 5G signals cannot harm the body.
Disinformation, on the other hand, is just lies that are deliberately placed in the media to deceive others.
Unsubstantiated rumors, gossip, or claims of grand conspiracy can also count as pieces of disinformation.
Misinformation can turn into disinformation when it's still shared by individuals or groups who spread it to cast doubt or stir divisiveness.
