We are constantly bombarded by “Cases!” in the news media. What “cases” really are is a Positive PCR Test (https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/when-is-covid-covid/). From a public health standpoint, what should matter are the cases that require treatment and or hospitalization.

The fact that the majority of cases are from younger age groups should not be cause for constant alarmism from our politicians and media when what really matters is the protection of those who are at particular risk of a severe outcome. The 61 and above age group comprises 85% of Deaths but just 17% of the Cases. The 60 and under age group comprises 15% of Deaths and 83% of Cases.

NOTE: “Case Fatality Rate” is NOT the actual Fatality Rate of Covid. This only represents the deaths divided by the total positive tests within the age group. For actual Fatality rates, see the “Risks by age” section.
