It's easy to participate in the BetOnline Bad Beat Jackpot promotion merely by sitting at tables in the lobby that have a star next to them. Not only do the winner and loser in a qualifying hand receive a prize, but so does everyone else at the table and everyone playing at any other BBJ table too.

The Beat Beat Jackpot at BetOnline and the other poker rooms on the Chico Poker Network was struck on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. The size of the pot at that time stood at a whopping $1,249,972. The action unfolded at a $1/$2 No Limit Texas Hold'em cash game table. Player “santinhoz” was the big winner, scoring a payday of $218,033.01. His opponent at showdown was “JC84” who got $155,826.91.

Both players began the hand with pocket pairs: Tens for “santinhoz” and Aces for “JC84.” The pot was raised and three-bet preflop, and then the flop came A T T, giving “santinhoz” quad tens and “JC84” aces full of tens.

Both players were committed to the hand, and there's no realistic way that either of them could have folded at any point. The 2 on the turn didn't change the situation, but the case Ace on the river sure did. Now both players had quads. They got all in and went to showdown.

This hand met all of the requirements for a Bad Beat Jackpot at BetOnline. It occurred at one of the specially marked Bad Beat Jackpot tables, and four or more players were dealt cards in the hand. Quad eights or better lost at showdown, and both players used both hole cards to make their final hands.

In addition to the $218,033.01 awarded to “santinhoz” and the $155,826.91 collected by “JC84,” five others at the table got $24,932 apiece for participating in the BBJ hand. Everyone at any other Bad Beat table also received a table share of $2,493.23. Unfortunately, there were two users present at the table who were sitting out during the hand in question, and so they missed out on their chance for a big score. “Snapcase10” and “Rightplay” took home no profit from the exciting events we've just described.

The Bad Beat Jackpot at BetOnline is funded through an extra rake of $0.10 for every $4 in the pot. This BBJ drop never exceeds $0.50 per hand, though, regardless of the final size of the pot. It's taken only at clearly labeled BBJ tables, so anyone who wants to avoid paying it can just choose not to sit in these games.

When the Jackpot is hit, the loser of the hand is entitled to 17.5% of the pot while the winner's share is 12.5%. Then, 10% of the pot is split up among the others dealt into the hand, and another 10% goes to all individuals playing in any other Bad Beat Jackpot table. 35% of the total is allocated to fund a new BBJ pot, and the poker room takes 15% for itself. In this case, the share retained by the site amounted to close to $190K!
