Researchers at Northwestern University have developed an idea for a face mask designed to make wearers less infectious.
According to UPI, the concept could be an important tool in the fight against COVID-19.
The design proposes treating face mask material with anti-viral chemicals that would sanitize the user's exhalation breath.
According to UPI, the chemicals would "have no impact on inhalation and would not impede breathing.
Researchers say the chemicals would sanitize escaped droplets from masks so that wearers "become less infectious".
According to researchers, the mask design is still in the concept stage and is not available for purchase.
