Whether to wear a mask or not in public spaces has become politicized. But why?
According to HuffPost, NYU Professor David B. Abrams says it comes down to a simple fight-or-flight response.
Abrams says the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is frightening and unnerving, so some people will respond with aggression.
This so-called ‘hot cognition’ is a strong, powerful set of emotions that completely override and erase rational, cool thinking.
For some people, not wearing a mask gives them a soothing feeling of control. For others, they've calculated the risk of infection is worth it.
And others see President Donald Trump not wearing a mask, so they figure, 'Why should I?'
