The Drug Enforcement Administration announced it will evaluate 37 applications to grow marijuana for medical research. According to Science magazine, the move is a big step, but it might take years for anything to come out from it. An attorney said the federal rulemaking requires soliciting and responding to public comments and possible litigation. The only marijuana that can legally be used for research in the U.S. is grown at the University of Mississippi, Oxford. The DEA announced it would consider applications for more growers but have not responded to any since 2016.
