Rumble Firefighters in Albany, Oregon, came to the rescue of a woman dangling from a bridge on July 11. Footage by the Albany Fire Department shows the dramatic rescue, which happened on Bryant Way Bridge. According to a press release by the department, a citizen reported that a woman was hanging on a sign beneath the bridge above the Calapooia River. The crew responded to the scene, where they engaged the woman, a 47-year-old Albany resident, in conversation for over an hour while a technical rescue was set up. The woman was hanging from two braided metal cables and a metal spillway sign, which was suspended between 50 and 60 feet above the waterway. A firefighter was then lowered to the woman’s level, where he attached a harness and lifted her to safety. “A fall from this height could have been fatal due to low river levels and large rocks directly below her,” the fire department wrote.
